Don't waste your time on this thing.
by dave060863 on February 3, 2009
Pros: After spending 8 hours trying to get it to work, nothing. Buy someone else's!
Cons: Difficult to install, uninstall. Would not drive an external Sony flatscreen monitor. Spent 8 hours trying to make it work. Install, uninstall, reboot reboot reboot.
Summary: No after hours support. Instructions for installation ambiguous. And I began to get the feeling that the software was negatively effecting the performance of my new laptop. It blew away ...
Summary: No after hours support. Instructions for installation ambiguous. And I began to get the feeling that the software was negatively effecting the performance of my new laptop. It blew away my internal camera. I never did get the thing to work as it should even once and took it back where it got it. Stay away!

Save yourself time and buy another brand.
by RichardPHarrison on April 12, 2013
Pros: Two displays, enough USB ports and internet connection. This is a better idea than the old docking stations that were laptop brand/model specific.
Cons: When it works, I like it...but it doesn't work, I want to throw it through the nearest window.
It stops working....and this has happened to my 2 original units AND 2 replacement units.Summary: I purchased 2 USB 3.0 Dynadocks (one for home and the other for office). I used them to connect to 2 external displays, keyboard/mouse, printer. Initially they worked ...
Summary: I purchased 2 USB 3.0 Dynadocks (one for home and the other for office). I used them to connect to 2 external displays, keyboard/mouse, printer. Initially they worked fine.
Then I had problems that the Dynadock would not recognize any external displays. This happened with one unit, and a few weeks later with the second unit. Both were replaced by Toshiba. After a few weeks, the replacements are having the same problem.
Replacing the units with Toshiba is easy (just fill in form on web-site). Granted, I incurred charges to ship the old units back. When I try to call Toshiba to find out the root cause, they just want to sell me their telephone support package for $99. I'm not paying them to support their defective product.
I must have spent 20 hours dealing with problems with this device. -
Great docking station
by scubacy on February 11, 2012
Pros: It is relatively inexpensive for a docking station. Especially for a sony vaio's that seems to have a different overpriced dock for each of it's models.
Cons: Original set-up with dual monitors was time consuming. I wish they offered more easy to find information on set-up issues.
Summary: I have 2 of these, 1 for work with dual LG's, and one at home with a iomega kvm switch and single monitor. After nearly a year now I ...

I know three or that have had success with it.
by avcarp23 on February 12, 2011
Pros: Plenty of USB ports. Pretty good sound thru my POS speakers. Video works well on my 23" LED monitor, but only after a some research to fix refresh rate/ image quality. Installation was easy with little to no challenges. I'd say a 9 out of 10.
Cons: There's nothing on Toshiba website regarding refresh problems for larger monitors. The problem is transmitting the required data to the monitor thru the dynadock with a usb cable. I fixed it with drivers her www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php
Summary: I'm getting exactly what I want from this product. My Dell Inspiron 17R is usually running AutoCad 2011, Revit 2011 or Adobe CS4 at my workstation and then I'...

Also, no issue with my son's Toshiba but 1 or 2 challenges with my wifes Acer. -
Works great, no REAL problems
by theflib on December 31, 2010
Pros: Plays video on monitor just fine!
Lots of great features/ports
Plugs into a single USB port
Lots of USB ports
Convenient USB and audio ports on front
Convenient button for undockCons: has VGA and DVI, but can't use both at the same time to add two monitors
setup may be difficult for some
Slight noticable deterioration of transmission to monitor at times.
expensive?Summary: I saw how low the rating was on here and decided I had to make a review myself because the low rating is just cruel!

This is a great device that works very well for me. I received mine as a hand-me-down and had no problem with setup. It seems many people couldn't use it with Windows 7 before, but it at least now has totally working setup and drivers for W7.
I was only slightly disappointed to find out that I couldn't plug in a monitor with DVI AND a monitor with VGA at the same time and have it used both. I was astounded enough that it was capable of taking advantage of my 1920x1080 resolution monitor along with other things all through one USB port, so I wasn't too upset. My laptop also has both DVI and VGA but can't use both at once, but I found out that I can use one port on the laptop and one on the dock to give myself a 3-monitor setup. (incl. laptop screen) This is pretty nifty
I did notice that at times, there is a sort of shimmer effect with the video on the monitor plugged into the dock, which may be due to some kind of compression or something. I wonder if vsync could fix it somehow? It doesn't really seem like much of a bother, since I use it for a secondary monitor.
I did use it for my main monitor for a while until I wanted 3 monitors and had no problem with games and videos on it all.
I have no experienced any of the problems other people here have reported (Windows 7, video, games, installation, rebooting, crashing)
I suggest searching beyond this website before deciding against this product! -
Good idea, bad carry through
by darkmerkaba on November 6, 2009
Pros: Looks nice, has optical port.
Cons: You cant watch video, cant use google earth, and cant play games on the monitor you connect. Its also a PAIN to install. I spent 3 hours restarting my computer and the Display driver still wouldnt install. Do not buy.
Summary: You will drink yourself stupid trying to figure out how to install this thing.
There is no video playback on the monitor you connect it to.

the easy on/off button at the top stopped working after a week.
Its SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW when you have a few things plugged into the usb ports at the back.
Horrible, stay away.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Seemed to work ok in testing, but....
by thatoneguy42 on July 10, 2009
Pros: I had no trouble instaling or uninstalling this product. The mouse, keyboard, network seemed to work fine.
Cons: It DOES NOT support dual monitors by itself. (read the fine print) you have to connect a VGA cable to your laptop in order to support this. Had trouble using it with Vista ie. no hardware profiles. Does not work with Windows 7.(drivers)
Summary: For the basic user this is probably a good product, but in a work environment where minimal setup is required and dual monitors are needed probably not the best thing.

Brilliantly-designed junk
by medouneu on February 14, 2009
Pros: It's the only docking station I've found that does everything I want; nothing else comes close. Too bad it doesn't work!
Cons: Where to begin? The repeated installations & reboots? The near impossibility of docking or undocking without crashing? The DVI port that supports a whopping 1920x1200, 32-bit monitor but CAN'T DISPLAY VIDEOS OR EVEN CERTAIN GRAPHICS?
Summary: The only problem with the first user review of this product is that I didn't read it before buying this brilliantly-designed, poorly built, loathsome piece of yeti excrement. I ...
Summary: The only problem with the first user review of this product is that I didn't read it before buying this brilliantly-designed, poorly built, loathsome piece of yeti excrement. I know that an earlier version was not compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista, but supposedly, this one is. But they never actually said that it can WORK PROPERLY with Vista, so maybe there's some fine print I missed.
The purpose of this device is to make mobility a piece of cake. You unplug the laptop's power and docking station cables, grab the laptop, and go. You come home, plug those two cables back in, and it's like you never left. You finish typing the sentence you were in the middle of. Not with this baby! If you didn't save that document before redocking, it's probably gone forever. Every dock and undock shouldn't force you to power down manually and reboot. This device SHOULD CATER TO ME - NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!
Aside from the unacceptable problems already noted, I'm still searching for tech support. I called Toshiba's tech support number, and they gave me a different tech support number with limited availability, then they forwarded me to some guy's voicemail who HASN'T BOTHERED TO RESPOND so far.
Maybe this thing works fine with 32-bit Vista or XP, but I'd be shocked if it did. My advice is to STEER CLEAR unless you enjoy spending hours and hours trying unsuccesfully to make your life simpler.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
