  Another great chapter in the Final Fantasy franchise!

  Summary: I have enjoyed playing many of the Final Fantasy series of games on the Sony Playstation, starting with FF VIII. This portable version brings back the 'classic' gameplay of the series. I'e only played it for a short time, but it was one of the reasons I purchased a Nintendo DS Lite. The game itself uses the same concept as the other FF games, where your character is part of a group that is destined to save the world from pending danger. You improve upon your character by building up experience through combat and setting them up in the job system, which defines their role in the game. You and your band are off on missions designed to beef up your characters and progress the story.
  
  Graphically, the game looks like a combination of old school and current technology that is perfectly scaled for the DS. The 'superdeformed' characters are cute and make interesting game avatars. The interaction of the menu and the touch screen is a nice feature, allowing one touch access to key menus instead of having to scroll through the menus with the directional pad. Gameplay is quick and fluid, allowing for quick access to in play menus and switching.
  
  The only issue I have with this game is the process of leveling up the characters. Like all of the FF games, it takes a while to get your characters to be strong enough to combat some of the monsters and challenges ahead. It also makes it difficult to figure out what you are suppose to do next. Leveling up does not necessarily lead you anywhere. It can be tedious at times, but it is the point of the game- performing tasks to advance the game further. It can be a positive or negative thing. I am leaning towards positive as I can't wait to continue on in this game.

  Must-have for RPG fans with a DS

  Pros: Excellent revamped graphics. Classic FF style game to go. Quicksave ability added in.

  Cons: Lackluster online features. Mediocre story delivery. Getting the whole experience requires you to use Moogle Mail.

  Summary: Final Fantasy III for the DS is a must have for RPG fans. Not only does this title bring you back to the classic FF gameplay mechanics that made the series great, but it does so with spectacularly overhauled graphics (for DS standards). For anybody who didn't play the FF Advance games because of the dated graphics, Final Fantasy II is your road to classic FF gameplay with a modern face lift.
  
  The gameplay, job system, and battle system in FFIII are a lot of fun. There are so many jobs that customizing your team is as much fun as using the unique skills of each class to decimate the enemy. Some players may find the inconsistent random battles frustrating though. Sometimes you can walk far distances without getting into a fight, while others you are fighting a new batch of enemies every 4 steps. However if you don't mind the antiquated random battle system then there is a lot of fun to be had on the gameplay side of FFIII.
  
  The story of FFIII is the standard story that you may have seen from its predecessors. Four warriors of the light are chosen to save the world from destruction. The developers did give each character his/her own quasi-unique personality, but the story doesn't delve that deep into any character (which may be a plus if you play your DS games irregularly). The story delivery in the game is also kind of stale. For Example one moment your characters are talking with the people they just saved, and the next line they say "well, time to go." There really is not any finesse.
  
  The reason I gave it a 7 instead of an 8 or 9 is because of the ridiculous online feature. I was really hoping for online battles against other players or at least co-op quests. Instead they put an e-mail system in place. That would be bad enough on its own, but you are required to use the system by getting friend codes and exchanging messages in order to unlock things in the single-player game. The entire post game was ruined for me because I had no interest in the Mog Mail system and it turned out that I should have been using it to gain access to secret side quests. Hard core perfectionist players should keep that in mind (I am still steaming that I don't have access to the hidden content).
  
  All in all FFIII is a great portable RPG that any RPG or FF fan should easily fall in love with.

  Summary: This is a great old school RPG. The problem with this title is that it is also an old school RPG. The battles are extremely difficult, and if you wander your party into a part of the game where you do not yet belong you will have your butt handed to you. This can create for a sometimes frustrating gaming experience.
  
  The game is extremely deep and requires a lot of time leveling up characters and exploring all of the territory. If you are a gamer who loves really getting deep into an RPG then this game is for you, but newer gamers who only know modern RPG's may be disappointed.
