Works right out of the box!

Pros: It made my recovery and application discs immediately. The supplied software states that it is only for Windows XP, but the outside of the box says OK for Windows Vista. I installed it on Windows 7, and it seems to read and rip music CDs fine.
Cons: Old software, but it seems to work.

Doesn't work for me, not likely to work for you

Pros: Wide DVD type compatibility
Cons: Insufficient power by design
No small notebooks or netbooks are likely to be capable of running this drive off their USB ports
Summary: USB 2 standard is 500ma per USB port at 5V

On the DVD Drive label it says Input power 5V > 1.6Amp <
A disaster waiting to happen.
The killer is that there is NO supplementary power input ( there was but it has been blocked off ) and No 5V 2A power supply socket and brick which it needs.
Nothing whatsoever on the outside of the box gives the power requirements.
The supplied cable is inadequately long to connect to notebooks with one USB on each side.
My Sony laptop just blows its mind needing a hard reset (removal and replacement of batteries) to restart. Plugging in the power cable as well as batteries makes no difference.
It > might < work on a workstation with 4 bunched together USB ports. It is certainly NOT suitable "for Mini Notebook users" (their quote on the box)

Looks great - doesn't perform

Pros: It looks great and slips into my carry case neatly
Cons: Had two of these. First wouldn't read any DVD. Second one would only read a few DVDs. Works OK as CDRW. Software supplied LG Power Tools doesn't install properly and won't uninstall. Opens multiple copies and crashes PC.
Summary: Bought from amazon. Assumed first was just defective so returned for replacement. Second one only a little better. The software supplied includes Nero (OK really) and various Cyberlink apps packaged ...

The software supplied includes Nero (OK really) and various Cyberlink apps packaged as LG Power tools. LG Power tools is really poor because it won't install fully, then when you try to uninstall it opens multiple copies until the PC crashes. You can't get completely rid of it unless you do a clean install of Windows,
