Summary: I recently purchased the HK DVD-47 with the HK 445 AVR. Once I got the system setup. I could not get my surround sound to work properly. I thought all HDMI connections included digital sound, which was until I read my connection specification closer. The HK DVD 47 HDMI connection does not included digital sound. You will have to connect an optical cable or coaxial cable for digital sound. Luckily, I had a spare coaxial cable to use. Once connected, the sound was great and there were no deficiencies in the sound quality. The sound quality with regular CDs was excellent as well. This is great DVD/CD player for the money.

Sleek, aesthetically pleasing, and functionally smart.

Pros: Plays SACD and DVD Audio; reads my old MP3 discs great; Digital zoom
Cons: Display times out quickly. Sometimes I like to see the lit display for a while.
Summary: $151.77 from Etronics. I admit this is expensive item at MSRP but not at price I paid. Look for a deal on this nice, HK player.

Summary: I've had this unit for only one week but so far have been fairly pleased with it. I did have a problem initially connecting it to my HK/AVR340 receiver as the factory default is S-video or HDMI output. The AVR340 doesn't have MDMI input and I'm not a fan of s-video, so to get the unit configured I had to connect it directly to a Samsung HD-LCD tv with HDMI input and change the default to optical audio output and composite video output. Reconnected to the AVR340, and it worked like a champ.
The sound output is good as well, although I confess I haven't flexed it that hard.

Pros: Picture quality is good too.
Cons: Absolutely sucks when it comes to the remote control coordination.
Summary: But the behavior and coordination of the unit with remote control and forward and backward functions are pathetic.
A $70 unit performs remote functioning much better than this unit.

Purchased it from J&R. Through their web site they say a new unit but a used or returned or refurbished unit was send to me. J&R sucks. I advice people to carefully check their sales agents about original factory sealed packages before they purchase from J&R.

Summary: This player is producing accurate and clear sound. Overall, the pictures are very good except sometimes, the color fore/background pictures are washed off and fuzzy. I hope HD can provide a firmware upgrade to fix this problem. Comparing with Denon 2910 and up, and Pioneer Elite, and Yamaha 2500, this player is lack behind in term of picture quality. Overall, this still considered a good player.

Pros: plays a wide variety of disks. remembers the play history of up to five dvd's
Cons: the fast forward and rewind features move quicker than the screen. when you think you have fastforwared to where you want to be, you have gone way to far
Summary: I would not recommend this product. for the price, you can get better. several different dvd's that i own do not play all the way through. i can put ...

Summary: I would not recommend this product. for the price, you can get better. several different dvd's that i own do not play all the way through. i can put the same dvd's into another player and they will play in its entirety. the fast forward feature is really annoying, it fast forwards quicker than it appears on screen.
i thought that because it has a hdmi output that i would get a better quality picture. not true. if you really want a better picture then go with an hd or blu ray player.
harmon kardon is new with dvd players and they just cant do them like they do thier receivers.
