Not for recording TV ,Satelite or Movie Programs
by tannerhead on April 7, 2009
Pros: Quick to set up and manual is quite easy to understand
Cons: Very tempermental machine.Slow to Commands. Not quite sure what the machine likes to record or play, haven't really found much it does like.
Summary: Price of unit is quite low as well as the features and productiveness.I understood the less features and accepted it as that.

Many reasons not to purchase this recorder; does not record movies from satelite programs (copyright protected material); does not record regular programming (copyright protected material); Does not recognize many dvd blanks; does not play many to most recorded dvds from other recorders no matter the speed they were written in; have noticed it had difficulty identifying a few retail dvd movies.
The only upside to this player I believe is that it has an HDMI,other than that,I personally would not recommend this to anyone for reasons I mentioned and beyond..
Sorry, but a low end machine should still do more than collect dust and work from time to time on whatever it wants to.8 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Tricky marketing
by Torkster on April 20, 2009
Pros: There was nothing to like about this product. It does the bare minimum.
Cons: Lacks a built-in tuner.
Summary: Bought this dvd recorder to go along with a Sony LCD tv. The bold "HDMI" "Multiformat DVD" over shadows the fine print stating that the unit doesn't have a ...

After 3 months still has great reproduction.
by lawaimike on November 29, 2009
Pros: Small size, ease of use, and great reproduction of tv.
Cons: NO tuner. Had to use an old vcr, as we have never had a set top box. The unit has many nice features, but the one that it should have isn't there, that is, a settable time for skip. Very difficult to skip the commercials with this model.
Summary: Well, it's priced right, and records better than the Panasonics I've had, but the features are all useless to me. The extra features seem to be geared to ...

No Quality
by -packrat on November 2, 2011
Pros: We learn by our mistakes.
Cons: This unit has failed after 16 months, out of warranty period (listed as 2009 March production date)with the same error message as that of tech_buyer's machine. The drive groans as it searches the tracks like there's some sort of mechanical problem. Usin

Generally Good Player
by Vegan4ever on May 22, 2010
Pros: I liked the "dubbing" feature for transferring video from my camcorder to disc. It made it a very quick and painless experience. I also love the ability to record TV shows with ease. (I have cable)
Cons: It's quite slow "booting up" when initially turned on. It seems to take forever to "load".
Summary: Bottom line, so far I'm happy with the player. It won't record copywritten material, but then again it really shouldn't IMO. Being an HDMI recorder/player it ...
Summary: Bottom line, so far I'm happy with the player. It won't record copywritten material, but then again it really shouldn't IMO. Being an HDMI recorder/player it would be nice if it played HD DVDs as well, but that's a whole other ball-of-wax.

No S-Video or HDMI inputs, only out.

Doesn't record satelite tv, all comes up copywrited.
by leeleigh33 on December 28, 2009
Pros: Easy set up and good instructions for use.
Cons: Doesn't record satelite, even local channels. Why have it if it won't record?
Summary: Don't buy it. It won't tape anything, keeps coming up Sony Copywrite protected even for the local news. It does work great if you only want to use ...

I bought this player/burner to burn DVD's from Handicam
by coachpettit on May 16, 2010
Pros: Was inexpensive. Seems to play movies okay, and plays DVD's it has recorded.
Cons: DVD's burned with this player are NOT compatable with other players.

Summary: I bought it to burn DVD's from my daughter's games for college basketball coaches and for her travel team coach. The DVD's it burns are NOT compatable with other players. Now whenever he wants to watch a copy of the game I have to give him the DVD AND the player!! It doesn't matter how cheap this is don't buy it. Sony's customer service is not helpful. Buyer beware.
