Summary: I have had 2 top of the line Panasonic and while thye work great for a few months the DVD recorder will not finalize. I download the upgrades from Panasonic and they still did not work. I was looking for an alternative and read the reviews for the Toshiba. It has proved better than I expected. I was very surprised at the quality of the shows I recorded as well as the quality even extended play. We have a HD TV and Directtv-HD. Great quality for the price.

Summary: I Ihad been looking for a way to convert my old VHS tapes to DVD before they faded away into oblivion. I had considered doing this through my computer, but I got scared off by the reviews. I came across this and figured for $100, why not. It has performed beautifully. I've begun transferring tapes and it works like a charm. I'd like to be able to get chapter pictures, but maybe I haven't read the manual carefully enough yet.

Toshiba offers reliability, clear pic, & built in fan
by mg2018 on February 21, 2009
Pros: DVD recorders run very hot and must have a fan to cool down the insides which get hot fast.
The Toshiba line does not spare the fan, continues to offer S-Video input as well as RCA jacks.Cons: No pass through when you turn off the unit, = the TV will no longer have picture or sound since Toshiba doesnt have pass through technology . You have to return to prior TV settings before you used your DVD recorder. A minor trade off however.

Summary: The Quality is the main concern here, and Toshiba is excellent compared to other systems currently. There are clear reproductions from either HD signals or regular cable or SAT channels. The S-Video input is also good to have , where more and more DVD recorders are failing to include this higher resolution input . The built in fan is a must for ANY DVD recorder. Toshiba knows how hot these units get, and continue to offer fans for longer life of the unit.
The Dubbing from VHS to DVD also is flawless and has no issues (like Samsung) .
Any of the Toshiba DVD recorder line is worth investing in, they have good quality and good picture reproduction onto DVD.
This is the right choice. The best media for any DVD recorder is Verbatim and the worst is Memorex. The slower the blank DVD the better. Most Recorders only can write 4X so keep that in mind. 16X discs can cause disc errors. 8x discs seem to be fine.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.
