Worth Every Penny!!
by MartyC on March 5, 2010
Pros: Reads PDF, TXT, FB2, EPUB, PRC, MOBI, and RTF.
I am not locked in to a propitiatory reader format.Cons: none yet
Haven't tried the MP3 player, already have one of those.Summary: This unit is an E book reader, it does not surf the web, it wont download instantly, it wont let you read the N.Y. Times or Wall street Journal. ...
Summary: This unit is an E book reader, it does not surf the web, it wont download instantly, it wont let you read the N.Y. Times or Wall street Journal.
What it does do and does it very well is read a book.
I have been using an old Palm 505 to read books, when it died I used my Windows Mobile 6.1 phone to read.
My son has a Kindle which is lovely, for him. He works for a software company and travels a lot. He needs all of the functions on it.
I don't travel and always have broadband internet available on my 18.4" Toshiba portable.
I have many, many (Thousands) of PDF and .Lit books on my external hard drive. With the 2GB card that comes with the Aluratek I can carry at least 1000 of them with me.
This is a reader, if you need all of the "Good Golly gee Whiz, I Got The Latest, Greatest and Most Expensive" this isn't for you.
If you just want to read a book the Aluratek Pro is perfect.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Excellent product! Blows all others out of the water.
by Thespiscraeft on July 24, 2010
Pros: For the money, you can't go wrong. And don't pay attention to this site's "available vendors" list. You can get the Libre BRAND NEW at borders.com or at a borders store for 119.99 USD.
Cons: It doesn't play video. But it comes with everything you need. Few cons. HIGHLY recommended. If you can, go into the store to get it (as of 08-01-10) and get a hands on before purchasing.

Simple to use - easy on the eyes!
by cheddy98 on July 1, 2010
Pros: Works with popular file formats - allows library ebook or audiobook borrowing
NO BLACK SCREEN - no flash when pages turn unlike Kindle, nook, kobo, sony...
Comes with SD memory card with 100 ebooks (this would take me hours to download)Cons: limited features - no web surfing (ok with me, I do not want to be marketed to constantly)
5 inch screen, but is very light (7.6 ounces) feels like a paperback book
no backlite, so can't be read in low lightSummary: I would recommend this over the BLACK FLASH screen of the other ebook readers. I can read for hours without eyestrain with the LCD screen. Uses e ink technology. This ...
Summary: I would recommend this over the BLACK FLASH screen of the other ebook readers. I can read for hours without eyestrain with the LCD screen. Uses e ink technology. This model is similar to the Ectaco Jet book lite, although I have never been able to locate one at a retailer. On sale at borders.com starting 7/20 for $120!

For the price the best take everywhere with drm support
by bob1xxxx on April 22, 2010
Pros: Excellent lcd screen, great file support ,drm epub suport , quick easy to navigate, great organization pc created folders, 2 gb sd memory card, compact take everywhere size, excellent prices (got for 159.00 at frys)
Cons: Less than stellar battery life need recharge after 20 hours of reading (ie once a week for me) not a horrible burden for me the pros out weight this minor drawback.
Summary: This is a excellent e reader for text based material (ie novels, fiction, sci fic....) if your in to reading large image pdf's, magazines or newpapers look elsewhere. But ...
Summary: This is a excellent e reader for text based material (ie novels, fiction, sci fic....) if your in to reading large image pdf's, magazines or newpapers look elsewhere. But if you like me who enjoys reading books for the money this is very hard to beat. The screen is excellent reflective lcd , it support for large varity of ebook file formats and support drm epub books mean you buy best sellers from a variety of ebook sellers. I also love the size it compact and easily fits in my pants or jacket pocket it great take everywhere size is great.... the positives of this great ebook reader outweighs the 20 hour battery life. This is not going to be the last ebook reader I will buy heck in a year I most like get some cheap 7" to 10" Linux/android Ipad clone (that will most likely cost 1/3 price of apples latest max pad and really internet with flash support) for my ebook reader. But for TODAY if you what a great ebook reader for text based material Aluratek Libre Pro is very hard to beat, dont fall for kindle/nook/sony hype You'll be glad you didnt.

Excellent product, few flaws, very good value.
by jbenkoe on January 19, 2011
Pros: Very easy to use. I bought for under $90 on Borders.com, which is a steal. Lightweight. The 100 free books pre-installed is sweet. Very good tech support.
Cons: Couldn't get access to e-books via public library at first try. Tech support helped me through. Wasn't able to download free e-books from all the free e-book websites, butr again tech support helped me through.
Summary: I recommend the Libre. I agree with other user reviews that If you want a device for the Web, for music for email, the Libre is not for you. If ...

My favorite e-reader
by csandste on December 23, 2010
Pros: E-pub so you can borrow books from libraries, faster screen than e-ink readers like more expensive Kobo. Kobo shares usb cord, charger, and Calibre software settings with Libre so they share hardware well together.
Cons: Some will miss wi-fi, I don't-- it's an e-reader not a tablet computer. Just hook USB to computer and use Calibre software for side loading.
Summary: Tried Nook and own Kobo, and this is by far my favorite e-reader. Lightning fast compared to e-ink , small screen not a problem since it easily flips to landscape mode. ...
Summary: Tried Nook and own Kobo, and this is by far my favorite e-reader. Lightning fast compared to e-ink , small screen not a problem since it easily flips to landscape mode. Bought four for gifts, you can find them well under $100 if you look. Probably not worth the list price.

Does the joy very well and is excellent value
by joclsm on October 12, 2010
Pros: Can download many file types, very fast page turns, easy on the eyes, mp3 player while you read, holds up to 32G of books, and includes the extras in the price (such as ac adapter, ear phones, case, usb cable, etc.) Amazing value at $99.
Cons: none, performs as it promises
Summary: I have used the Libre for two months and it works in all kinds of light--I would not read a book in the dark or poor lighting, so why complain ...
Summary: I have used the Libre for two months and it works in all kinds of light--I would not read a book in the dark or poor lighting, so why complain about the ereader--and accepts books in almost all formats. Frankly I'm impressed, especially when I compare it to the Kobo and the Kindle, where you pay more for features no reader really needs, in my view.
|Contrary to what one reviewer said, who gave the Libre one star, the Libre can jump to chapters, under its Table of Content feature. It can also bookmark and it can search. However, the ebook must be set up by the publisher for this feature to work. Any new books that you purchase are usually capable of this. However, many of the free books are not. I also found the MP3 player worked as fast as any MP3 I have used, once it is downloaded.

No chapter selector
by Onliner6 on August 22, 2010
Pros: Easy to operate, simple, functional for straight reading of fiction but
Cons: keep in mind the first $100 is the expense of an e reader, for another 40 bucks you get a reader that can go to
any chapter ahead, This is only able to go page one then each page after, no ability to leap ahead by chapters. -
Not worth The Price
by jjkb0440 on January 26, 2010
Pros: I liked the sd card slot and the ease of adding books by just copying them to SD Card. Battery life was good, nice size although the 5" screen was a little on the small side.
Cons: Slow, navigation was a pain, text didn't seem to line up correctly with a whole line being taken up by one or two words. the mp3 audio was bad. seemed to take along time from adding something to the SD card before the Libre would recognize it.
Summary: My over all feeling is that this was a super entry level e-reader that was over priced. i paid $139 for it but felt ripped off. I would have kept ...
Summary: My over all feeling is that this was a super entry level e-reader that was over priced. i paid $139 for it but felt ripped off. I would have kept it if I had paid $50-75 and i have a feeling that this is where it will end up. If you are looking for a faster more responsive system go with one of the higher end systems like the Kindle which when i tried on was a much more enjoyable experience.
