The good: The 2011 Nook is a compact and lightweight e-book reader with a responsive high-contrast Pearl e-ink touch screen that offers quick page turns. It's got built-in Wi-Fi for direct access to the online Barnes & Noble store, an expansion slot for additional memory, and long battery life (up to two months). The Nook supports e-book lending and EPUB loans from libraries, and it offers some enhanced social networking features.
The bad: The 2011 Nook has no support for audio, no 3G option, and no Web browser. The rubberized finish on the back of device attracts fingerprints.
The bottom line: The new touch-screen Nook is a major advancement over its predecessor and offers some real advantages over the 2010 Kindle.

Pros: Responsive screen.
Still has dictionary, highlights, and notes.
Still has tactile page turning buttons.
Quick page turns (some say it's slow, but you try turning a page that fast with a real book).
Social networking is great if you have friends with aCons: No Sudoku! It would have been much better with a touch screen than on the original nook. Why they removed it, the world may never know.

This is easily the best reader on the market. For those who miss the browser, what the crap are you browsing on a reader for. That's just plain stupid. It's always going to be too slow to be reasonable.
No 3G is a bummer, but in a world where there is WiFi almost anywhere, no big deal.

Warning to all Parents!!

Pros: Great small reader that i gave to my 11 and 12 year old for Christmas. Only I can buy their books. Seems safe, right?
Cons: WRONG! My son learned within a week that he can chat with strangers (can you say Predators?) through the book review of each book. They went back and forth. It's very scary and an eye opener. Please beware!

Pros: I wasn't sure how I would like the touchscreen, but it's very responsive and you get used to it. Everything is laid out nicely, and as a lefty, I appreciate the dedicated page-turn buttons on the sides. Downloading books is quick and easy.
Cons: I almost feel that it is TOO small and light--it can be difficult to hold onto sometimes. Also, no backlit screen.

Summary: This is great for reading on the go when you don't want to take a book along. I don't use it as much as I thought I would, though, mainly because there aren't many options yet for renting e-books, and I'm not interested in buying something that I'll only read once. You aren't limited to Barnes & Noble's selection of books--I've put some novels from the iTunes store on mine--but B&N seems to have the best quality choices. I'd definitely recommend going for the GlowLight version now, because it is too bad that there is no backlight on this one!
Forgot to add: the WiFi really drains the battery quickly if you keep it on all the time. Even with the WiFi option off, the battery drains more on standby than I thought it would. Still, the battery life is decent overall.

Pros: Very easy to use. Does what it says it will do and no more. The no more part is what I like best.
Cons: Only one and that is that it will not download from Project Gutenberg like the Kindle will.

The Nook Simple Touch is light, book sized, and just as easy to use as anything Apple makes. It doesn't have bells and whistles just like a book. If I want bells and whistles I will get on my iMac or my iPhone 4. Please note that I do not work for Apple and this is not intended to be an advertisement for Apple. When I was looking for an eBook reader CNET rated this one as being better than the cheapest Kindle.

Pros: Light and easy to hold.
Touch screen works great and it has a super-fast page refresh.
Battery is eternal.Cons: Can't read ebooks from Amazon, which means there lots of books you just can't get due to exclusivity deals.
Can't add B&N books via the USB - has to be done over wifi.

Pros: Small, comfortable, durable and easy to read. First rate service from B&N and the store is always there if you like to browse the physical books rather than strictly shop on line.

Summary: I bought the Nook in June for my wife's birthday. She is an avid reader and took to the Nook as her first ereader right away. She likes to read while sunning and doesn't have any trouble reading in full, bright sunlight. Unfortunately, after using the Nook for ten months, we couldn't wake it up from its nap yesterday so we took it back to B&N. When I explained the issue to their Nook specialist he tried for just a minute and also could not wake up the little device. Without hesitation (or a receipt) he opened up a brand new Nook, downloaded my wife's library and sent me on my way with the new device fully restored and an extra charger with an apology for my trouble. Thank you B&N, I'm sold!
