Device Met My Expectations Exactly
by MElectro on December 27, 2010
Pros: This product came with a great instruction manual in addition to a quick start guide. I charged it and began using it on the same day. It does exactly what I want it to do...downloads and displays an assortment of ebooks for my reading pleasure.
Cons: I did my homework BEFORE shopping for an ebook reading device. Therefore, I was not disappointed that the Literati did not have popular features that come with some other devices, like touch screen. Would be nice to have brighter screen resolution.
Summary: For the money, the device is superb...easy navigation in reader library...user-friendly interface...quick page and screen response...easy access to wireless network/WIFI...intuitive user control...easy download ...
Summary: For the money, the device is superb...easy navigation in reader library...user-friendly interface...quick page and screen response...easy access to wireless network/WIFI...intuitive user control...easy download of ebooks, newspapers, magazines, documents...great night reading setting that makes reading comfortable with the lights out...adjustable fonts for ease of reading...color screen display (even though it is lower resolution than might be desired) is comfortable to look at for extended periods...the store ad said I would receive 125 free books - 25 already loaded on the device with 125 available to download - actually there were nearly 200 free books available!...PDF formats can be downloaded...memory slot available for up to 8 gigs of extended memory...the device is thin and easy to hold whether I am laying down or sitting on the bus commuting to work.
I recommend this device for anyone on a budget that wants a great, basic reading device.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not too bad for a first time e-reader user.
by gobarb26 on May 11, 2011
Pros: Comes with cover, great price. I like the night reading feature. I am able to read without disturbing my husband. Goo Customer service.
Cons: Very slow going from chapter to chapter. I wish I could stop it from adding all of the sayings between chapters. At first it was fun, but I am totally over that now! Battery life is not too good. Need to charge it a couple of times a week.

Summary: I use this mostly for when I am having chemo treatments or waiting for a Dr. apt. I also travel with it and it helps fill the time. It may not the best e-reader, but it is a good entry level unit. Customer service is very good. I called to ask some questions and they were very friendly and helped me.
Meant to day good customer service.

Great price! Excellent if you only want an e-reader!
by MusikMaestro on April 8, 2011
Pros: Low low price...$35 at BB&B.
Good color screen.
Easy to understand menus.
Great night reading mode.
Great settings for screen brightness (extends battery life).Cons: This is not an iPad or Android tablet.
No extra APPS
Small buttons to control menus. Big fingered people look out!
No 3GSummary: If you want a decent eREADER then it is better to get one that has WiFi like the Literati has and even better with 3G. But even w/o 3G ...
Summary: If you want a decent eREADER then it is better to get one that has WiFi like the Literati has and even better with 3G. But even w/o 3G you can always download great books from Kobo or a public library at home or work or anywhere that has internet access and have it read on the Literati. Easily maneuverable menus and easy to read color screen make this a great purchase to get you reading more often. Anything that allows you to enjoy reading is a good idea. As my five year old son said, "Don't be D-U-M (he spelled it for me) dumb...Reading is great!"

Never had a ebook before this one seems fine.
by Elquinjenasilverwing on December 27, 2010
Pros: It was simple to use, got it hooked into our wifi network, updated. Installed the kobo software to my computer and started an account. I honestly have not had any problems with this unit.
Cons: Still not sure how to delete the preloaded books. when connected to computer and running the kobo software after sync up, they do not show up in library listing.
Summary: This is my very first ebook, and it seems fine. I like the look and feel of the unit and have not ran into any problems so far. I has ...
Summary: This is my very first ebook, and it seems fine. I like the look and feel of the unit and have not ran into any problems so far. I has not crashed on me and seems to be working as intended. Only issue I have is not being able to removed the preloaded books, the software I installed on my system to sync up the unit with the kobo desktop software it does not see the other books listed on the unit. It does see the ones I bought.
I got this as a gift but if I was buying one, the price of 49 for such a unit does not seem that bad of a deal. It is a simple unit and so far I am very happy with it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

No support

Summary: Less than three weeks old, my device started to display only vertical, black-and-white stripes. I called Kobo customer service (Sharper Image no longer supports it) and was told to press the Reset button five times for 35 seconds each. When that failed to change the display, the agent told me that there is nothing they can do, since the device is discontinued. Don't spend the money.

Not dependable, but I miss it :(
by alarmrx2 on July 16, 2011
Pros: LOVE the Night setting, no lamps to turn on & off, color, wi-fi, basic e-reader, adjustable font size, reads PDF's (although they're not under books), e-pubs, easy to read, price (although we paid more than a lot of you) it sounded too good to be true.
Cons: ....it was. The joystick area is not made for adult fingers, the right turn page stopped working quickly, battery dies very fast the more you use it, on-off button is where??? & how small, and then you turn it off at the end of the appointment, never

Summary: The reason I wanted this one was because it was inexpensive at that time (now I have seen them sold for $10, what does that tell you). I wanted to see if I would really use a e-reader enough to eventually buy a more expensive one. I LOVED having my e-reader for the convience. I guess a book is just as convienant, but I never liked that people could see what I was reading... WEIRD! The price of e-books also scared me, but I found that I could find lots of freebies & low priced ones I liked. My Literati lasted long enough (almost 6 months) to know that I liked having one, & also what features I really want on my next reader. But I HATE that we spent that much money on a product that didnt even last a year! Maybe I will get a replacement from the company- but I doubt it.
Unders- the last sentance should have read "never to be seen again".

Wonderful!
by allforme2 on June 17, 2011
Pros: It's in color, it has lots of features that i didn't have on my other e-reader. I love that you can delete the books without having to log onto the internet from your computer. There are some great free books that you can download. You can also use the
Cons: sometimes you have to reset the e-reader; the quotes between pages and at the beginning of the books.
Other than that i have no issues with this. My other one was small and in black and white and had no wi-fi, so this is great.Summary: I paid a wonderful price over Christmas last year and i am still enjoying every bit of this thing.

I've had 2 of these and neither worked!
Pros: Good price point and probably good for people who aren't sure if they'll use ereaders. Good experiment.
Cons: Major defects! Buttons on keypad constantly sticking and breaking. Sometimes the screen won't turn on. Frequently could not connect to the available wi-fi networks. Could not hold a charge.
Summary: This is an ABYSMAL product. I work at a store that sold these over Christmas. Nearly every one we sold came back as damaged within the first week. My co-workers ...
Summary: This is an ABYSMAL product. I work at a store that sold these over Christmas. Nearly every one we sold came back as damaged within the first week. My co-workers and myself purchased the product because of the reasonable price however, each and every one of us was disappointed. I've now gone through 2 Literati ereaders and both have had such significant flaws that I've given up on this brand. I would not recommend this product, even if you have money to throw away.

Great color, but very slow & unreliable.
by Dbear44 on February 17, 2011
Pros: Color is awesome. Pages turn easily with the arrows located on either side of the screen. Comes with a padded cover. Built in dictionary is very nice to have. Updated easily & was easy to use.
Cons: Slow, wireless never worked, 2 weeks after I bought it, the battery no longer charges. Size & weight make it awkward to hold. Keyboard is not user friendly & the "joystick" is very hard to use, must use your fingertip. Hard to read in bright lig

Summary: Sold at BB&Beyond for $39.99. Awesome price, if it worked. Unfortunately it doesn't. The Sharper Image name used to mean something. The company went out of business & the new owner of the name now slaps the name on anything electronic it thinks it can sell. Great idea, absolutely loved it while it worked. RIP Literati, we shall miss you.
