LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series (6TB) price range: $649.00 - $1,297.98

The good: The easy-to-use, high-capacity LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series offers very fast performance for a dual-bay external hard drive. The drive supports RAID configurations, has a user-serviceable hard-drive bay design, and can be daisy-chained with up to five other Thunderbolt devices without decreasing the throughput.
The bad: The LaCie 2big Thunderbolt's performance is comparatively slow for a Thunderbolt storage device, especially in RAID 1. The drive is relatively expensive; it doesn't have built-in support for any other common peripheral connections like USB or FireWire; and it doesn't come with the necessary Thunderbolt cable.
The bottom line: The LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series strikes a balance between capacity, performance, and price and would be a good choice for owners of Thunderbolt-enabled computers.

Summary: This is my first drive with the Thunderbolt interface. I was really exited to try it. It comes pre-configured in RAID 0, but I set it up as JBOD to take advantage of the space. I use the drive to work with large video files, so any additional hard drive space is always welcome. The speed of this drive is outstanding. Even faster than I thought. The system works flawlessly. I haven't had any problems so far.

Very good blend of performance, style and lack of noise
by patrick87--2008 on May 23, 2012
Pros: Build quality, quite operation, small enough footprint, very high speed.
Cons: The power brick creates an unnecessary mess, I would vote for a slightly larger size with integrated power.
Summary: Used with my MacBook Pro and the Thunderbolt monitor, this is a very clean and very quiet way to have fast RAID storage without the need for earplugs.

I store RAW digital camera files and my iTunes media on this unit and find it to be very much an upgrade from my previous screaming RAID boxes. I plug the device into a switchable power strip so it is not always running but as it mounts instantly when booted, toggling it on and off as required is easy.
With a Firewire CD card reader connected to the system, I can drain a CF card of RAW images in stupidly fast time.
Overall, I am very pleased with the balance of very, very fast speed and lack of superfluous noise. Sure, periodically you can hear a drive do a seek, etc., but this is nothing compared to having stead state fans howling to cool my previous generation of storage.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great product althought overpriced.
by benandarchie1 on May 5, 2012
Pros: Uses thunderbolt which is super fast! Quite compact. Feels strong, wont break so easily
Cons: Thunderbolt isnt supported on PC's so you cant bring it to a friends house to transfer files etc. if they have windows. Does seem a bit overpriced considering there are USB 3.0 drives with the same capacity for less and almost the same speed.
Summary: This is a great storage device if you are looking for something that is super fast. but for home use, you should get a cheaper device using usb 3.0 ...

Summary: The drive is great for processing heavy media files. It has really nice transfer speeds, which can be further increased by connecting other Thunderbolt drives in serial. So anything that requires a fast interface will clearly benefit from this drive's performance. Another advantage of this model is its compact size, huge storage capacity and solid construction. I love it!

Summary: I got this to use with my new iMac. It works great. I have no complaints. The speeds are awesome. The design is brilliant. The aluminium heat sink exterior helps keep the drives inside cool. The blue led alert is perfect for letting me know when the drive is working and I've even configured it so I can start my backups at one touch.

Summary: After multiple recommendations we decided to get 2 of the 6TB units and connect them together with a thunderbolt cable in our office. I must admit, I've been pleasantly surprised by the complete lack of noise coming from them. The speeds are amazing, true, but the sheer silence is the truly amazing feature of these units.

Summary: I do a lot of video editing in my work and must admit I was dubious when I was told that I would be able to stream multiple files from this one external device. I'll say it, I was wrong. This unit is more than able to keep up with the demands that I throw at it, now I'm really out of excuses for not getting my work done.

Summary: 6TB is a huge amount of storage space. I was looking for a good drive, capacious and fast, that I could use for storing raw data and processed files at the same time. The 2big is everything I needed. It works smoothly and quickly, the 7200 HDDs are high quality and work great. It's not a portable unit, a bit on the heavy side, but then I don't really need to cart it around..

Summary: I particularly like the dual ports on this unit, it can be plugged into compatible devices. Thunderbolt is very fast, but the dual channel makes it even better as the unit can read and write simultaneously. The casing is attractive and I particularly like the fact that it's made of aluminum.
