Fast, quiet and reliable
by Athorne6 on November 10, 2010
Pros: Great speed, great heat dissipation thanks to 100% aluminum casing that is designed to serve as a heat sink, very quiet, high capacity, great looks
Cons: A bit heavy, but that's because the casing is made of aluminum. Saying that I'd like to note that it's a desktop drive.

Summary: The d2 drive is just great. I did my fair share of research before buying this product. We have several computers on the network (Mac & PC), so I wanted something with universal connection options, reliable and easy to use. The drive worked right out of the box. I?ve installed it in a matter of minutes. It?s very easy. Now after 7 months of usage, I?m happy to say I wasn?t wrong with the choice. It is reliable and performs very well!

This drive is amazing

Summary: I bought the 2TB desktop drive in 2010. It's been working flawlessly. When purchasing this drive, you get the hard drive itself, a cable for each of the connection ports (USB, eSATA, Firewire 400 and Firewire 800), the AC cord, Genie and Intego Backup Assistant software and a user manual. The design of the drive is very neat. The casing is made out of solid aluminum. It looks sleek, and doesn't feel cheap or weak like some plastic enclosures. Because of its all aluminum construction, the drive is a bit on the heavy side, which is not a problem at all for a desktop drive. Transfer rates are pretty good. The drive doesn't get hot, only slightly warm. The aluminum enclosure acts like a big heat sink, so there's no need for a fan and therefore the drive is very quiet. I use it mostly for backups. I haven't had any issues or hiccups so far, such as bugs, crashes or slowdowns. This drive is excellent. I recommend it without hesitation.

Summary: I've been using the 2TB version of this drive for several months now. I've been constantly writing a lot of video files to it, having downloads run in the background while I watch videos, etc. The unit is a real workhorse. I've had no issues with it so far. It's been reliable, handling multitasking very well, and at the same time remarkably quiet. I've been also satisfied with the speed. All I can say is that this product deserves the five stars I'm giving it.

Summary: With a small home office I needed a reliable way to back up my work files quickly and safely. I have that with the LaCie D2. It's perfect for my needs, I easily configured the shortcut button so when I want to run a backup it takes a moment to start and with Firewire, it finishes in the blink of an eye.

Summary: This drive's design is very sturdy and quite heavy. I've got it set up over FW800 connection, the speed is great. It's fairly quiet due to fanless design, the aluminum casing acts as a heat-disperser. I really like the multiple ports and the quick launch button on the front panel. I'll update this review if something comes up in the near future.

Summary: I bought this to run backups with Time Machine for my Mac. It works well, has good read and write speeds, is very quiet, and easy to use, comes with a great choice of ports and every cable you might need. It matches perfectly my Mac in terms of design. The aluminum enclosure is exactly the same color as the aluminum on my Mac. All in all, I'm very pleased with this drive.

Summary: I'm a pro photographer and have been using Lacie drives for years. I've bought this model for the same reasons I bought all my Lacie drives: reliability, quality, features and design. This particular d2 model has a nice 2TB capacity, which is a nice bonus. The drive is very quiet, no noise at all. It's very sturdy thanks to the metal casing that in addition to being simply great looking and durable provides advanced heat dissipation. The drive has all connection ports I need for my work. This is a great choice for professional use!
