Summary: I have owned my share of drives from WD, Verbatim, Sony, and LaCie. This is by far the best drive I've ever owned. No issues where I've experienced issues before (i.e. noises, etc.). It is small, great for travel. And for 2 TB you really can't beat the price!

Faulty product, shocking service

Pros: Ask me when I get one that works.

Summary: I own 6 LaCie products and am very happy with all of them - aside from the Minimus. It worked properly for a few days, just long enough to transfer some video renders to it. Then it crashed and refused to boot.
I contacted LaCie and they sent me a new power supply - but the wrong one. They volunteered to repair / replace the drive, but told me that all data would be lost.
Fortunately I still had the source files for the renders. Unfortunately it would take several days of processing to re-render, on a system already booked full time. So replacing the files would be a huge, expensive headache.
I asked LaCie about recovery options and was told (we had by now narrowed the problem with the drive to a technical factory fault) that they would save my data for me for £800. If I wanted to try an alternative recovery option my warranty would be void.
The upshot of this is I spent over £100 for a drive that - thanks to a manufacturing fault - almost immediately stopped working and took hostage £1,000+ worth of data which the company responsible for the fault then held hostage for another £800, threatening to revoke the warranty if I tried to save the data myself.
Since the drive had lost my trust irrevocably and a repaired / replaced version of the same would be worse than useless to me, I requested that instead of replacing the drive with the same model it be replaced with a cheaper but more reliable model. Although this would have saved them time, money and a customer, they rejected this proposal and sent me a new Minimus. Presumably in the hope that I would be stupid enough to risk being hostage to them for £800 a second time.
Upshot: the drive is not reliable and should you end up with a bad one, you're screwed, LaCie with a screwdriver waiting to twist.

Summary: Great HHD looking good in every way appearance, quality but I don't get C/net review said *The bad: The Minimus doesn't include a USB 3.0 add-in card for computers that don't yet have this connection* Get this in your head....no portable or external HHD come with a USB 3.0 add-in card!
So this case there is no CON:

Summary: I needed a very easy to use and high quality external drive to expand my work space. A friend of mine recommended Minimus and I took his advice. All necessary software for setup and automatic backup was included with the drive. The drive takes up minimum space on my desk and is very fast and quiet. It's a perfect solution for me. I'm very satisfied.

Summary: I have hundreds of gigabytes of valuable data and needed a roomy drive to back it up. I've chosen Minimus for a number of reasons, such as the overall build quality, the aluminum casing and the small size. This drive is smaller than other desktop drives I've owned. Minimus makes no noise, even after hours of operation, and doesn't overheat. The software for automatic backup and data encryption was included. I'm very happy with my choice.
