Good Value
by Doug_444 on February 15, 2010
Pros: Seems simple enough to setup (actually none needed) just plug the wall wart and USB cable up. No on/off switch etc. Bought @ Staples for $89 good value for a 1TB drive.
Cons: Kid @ knew nothing, no display model to look at and I couldn't open the box before buying ! Found out after getting home no backup software included.

Summary: However after getting the unit home and hooking it up (very simple 2 cables USB cable and wall wart for 120V the unit powered right up and my system found the drive. Again no backup software is included and none is needed as long as you are running Vista (Home Prem) or Windows 7 backup software is included. Backed up both a Vista machine and a older Windows XP system. I had to go find 3rd party software for the XP machine if you want to do a snap shot backup of the hard drive. Other wise you can drag and drop files manually which is a good idea in addition to the snap shot. Soooooo if the unit holds up (2 year Warranty included) I give it a heads up for now.

Summary: One day the hard drive just stopped working and my computer could no longer detect it. I can feel the disc spinning, but there also this constant clicking. Now i fear i have lost all my data. Tried every step on the troubleshooting page. Phoned Seagate's technical support office and they told me the issue should be taken up with where i bought it from. So i called up where i bought it from and they said it was something i needed to take up with the manufacture. So now I've bounced back to square one and it's like no-one wants to help resolve this issue. I've done my research and found there are lots of people who have had the same problem with this exact hard drive. So much for customer satisfaction. So is it the hard drive itself or the manufacturer?

The worst I have ever used by any manufacturer.
by eeller on June 13, 2011
Pros: Has a relatively sleek design.
Cons: The Memeo Dashboard installation software does not run automatically. You have to find it yourself in a directory. Using the provided software is sickeningly slow. I am reminded by a dial-up connection, and all I am trying to do is backup from a former
Summary: I am returning this tomorrow morning. It has greatly affected my faith in the entire Seagate lineup.

Don't Waste Your Money
by SteveRB--2008 on February 21, 2011
Pros: None as the device is totally unreliable at any price.
Cons: Bought two units and both were continually powering down and backup again and one clicked. Didn't evem bother with a warranty support after reading other peoples experiences with this product. HDD is fine it is teir enclosure and electronics.
Summary: They generate a lot of heat and I suspect this is the problem. At once point it even shutdown completely because of heat build up. Pity I didn't read ...
Summary: They generate a lot of heat and I suspect this is the problem. At once point it even shutdown completely because of heat build up. Pity I didn't read all the reviews on this product before I bought it. I haven't seen one good word about this product or the level of support Seagate provided.
The physical drive appears to be OK so what I did it I bought two Nexstar 3 external drive enclosures, installed the drives in them, and they have been solid ever since.
Seagate have lost a customer for life. There has been sufficient feedback on this product to possibly even withdraw it from service yet they continue to sell them. They appear to have priced them to do this to clear out their stocks. -
The Good, the Bad, the Dead

Summary: This thing is a piece of work. I had this for only a little over a year. Must of used it only five or six time during the time period; rest of the time it's been put away. Now when I plug it into my computer; it clicks a few time, booting up like its going to work, then nothing. I wait, and wait, and wait, and nothing. I get the icon where I can safely remove the drive from my computer. I would remove the drive, plug it back in and wait; if I repeat this a few time, the drive finally appears and I can do whatever needed. Other sites states this is the drive starting malfunction. Hell other people who has this drive says their drive don't even last a few weeks. I have a 500 GB WD external hard drive that I'll had for over two years and its never given me this problem. I'll even dropped my WD drive few times, and it still works like brand new. If your looking for an external drive, I don't recommend Seagate.
