by jayesh_dc on February 23, 2013

Summary: its a crap not reliable, i will not suggest this type of solution to any body

Total Garbage!!!!
by CodeSmithDS on September 3, 2011
Pros: I have always hated WD products! Unreliable, short life, and poor support. But the specs (half star for potential only) on this drive were impressive enough for me to bite.
Cons: When will I ever learn? Drive worked for one day, then quit working while I was playing some mp3 files that I had copied to it. After searching the web for over two weeks and trying a mulitude of suggestions, reinstall driver, update software, new usb c
Summary: Recommendation... I hope you avoid the headaches, heartaches, and costs associated with using WD junk... How do you do that... easy, buy your hard drive from any other brand!

Unpredictable...UNRELIABLE...unacceptable...
by ScoutR on March 18, 2011
Pros: Portable; no power needed
Cons: I've bought two of these and they seem fine at first - very convenient - but they have BOTH failed in the past month. I tried to re-format and the re-format failed, on both. I'll never buy Western Digital again.

Summary: I got this drive as a backup less than 3 months ago. it seemed to work fine and i had moved over 500GB of media files over. I am fortunate that I did not use this for any of my personal files because it turned out to be a piece of crap. Two days ago the drive has stopped working. The LED just blinks rapidly when plugged into the computer. I should have read these reviews before buying this cheap piece of garbage. NEVER BUY WESTERN DIGITAL!!

A life saver for me
by Taegugki on February 2, 2011

Summary: I bought my computer 5 years ago and at the time I thought 160GB (custom made Windows XP) would be more than necessary, as my iTunes library grew and as I started audio/video & podcast production hard drive space came at a premium especially since I bought a Samsung HMX H106 HD camera, this became a life saver, especially the storage demand of media. So I don't understand the bad reviews!!! And now that I'm using both a Mac & a PC, this is even more valuable!!!
This is crap! At first when I read the reviews, I thought they were haters. Then all of a sudden out of the blue, it kept self ejecting and as a result I had to buy a new External HD (Seagate) thank God Costco gave me a refund for my drive because there was no Repair Centers in South Korea! Spent a little more on the Seagate 1.5TB drive and so far so good. From now on, WD = crap to me!

This drive is crap
by DASNEETH on August 11, 2010
Pros: Small, and light. lots of storage
Cons: This is the third wd passport (and last) that we have bought. We have used it for 1 month now, and it's already taken a crap. the internals are horribly built, its' very fragile and you WILL loose data if you are planning on using this device.
Summary: If you want a reliable hard drive, do not buy this product. You will end up loosing data, and the support will not help you. Sure, you can send back ...
Summary: If you want a reliable hard drive, do not buy this product. You will end up loosing data, and the support will not help you. Sure, you can send back and recieve a new one, but you will still have lost data. Even if you send to recover, they will not be able to get much. I've been there twice now...going on the third time with the third product. I've learned my lesson...

Don't use as a backup for your hard drive

As a possible replacement drive for your notebook, FORGET IT!.
The internal drive is hard wired to be noting but a USB drive and there is no way to use it as a replacement drve (using apps like super-duper on the MAC or Casper XP in windows).
We bought two of these drive as backups for our clients notebooks and one had a disk crash so (as we have done many times before with other backup drives) we opened the external case and were shocked that you cannot use the drive as a backup.
The drive is really to large and costly for just extra storage as a USB drive so I would recommend something smaller and another brand.
It's a shame that WD did this because I have up to this point use their drives almost exclusively as backups for the fleet of notebooks we have in the field. We have since moved over to another brand. You have to have a brand you can trust.
