Summary: I went to 4 different stores, went to dozens of websites, and looked at a hundred different TVs before I settled on this model. You don't need to spend twice the amount for a smart TV because you can simply hook up a Roku box or basic computer to this model for much less money, also you will have much more options with a computer hooked up to your TV than relying on a TV's embedded browser.
Basically the screen on this model was brighter than most of the other screens on display. Also, the TV with its trumotion technology made the video appear much smoother than most of the other LCDs on display at the store. It had the brightness and crispness of an LCD with smooth motion like a plasma. The speaker system is surprisingly good for the size of the speakers put inside thin TVs these days.
We bought our model at Walmart but you can find it cheaper online if you don't mind the extra time and hands involved in shipping the product.
Tips: This TV ships with the eco-setting turned on. This means that the screen will dim automatically when there is less light in the room. You can turn this feature off.
*** P.S. If you will buy this TV I suggest you have compare price before you decide at: www.amazon.com/gp/*************?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Foffer-listing%2FB004OOVIFY%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Ddp_olp_new_map%26condition%3Dnew%23&tag=***************&********=ur2&camp=1789&creative=3909578 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good bang for the buck TV
by mikeg281 on July 28, 2011
Pros: Colors are bright but not blooming
Display is bright
Plenty of picture tuning options
The "picture wizard" is helpful for basic settings
Has Tru Motion if you're into that
Matte screenCons: Has Tru Motion if you're not into that
Dot quite as sharp as more expensive 1080p sets (understandably)
Deep blacks lack detail
May require a professional setup to get the best out of it
Location or power cord plug.Summary: I did quite a bit of research and with a budget of under $1000 I decided the LG was the winner in terms of value. It replaces a 2 year ...
Summary: I did quite a bit of research and with a budget of under $1000 I decided the LG was the winner in terms of value. It replaces a 2 year old samsung 40" lcd. The picture doesn't quite have the same "pop" as the samsung but the samsung also cost around $1100 and obviously has less screen real estate. Don't go into this set thinking you're going to get a top of the line picture out of it. The picture is quite bright and the colors are muted but I wouldn't call them dull. You do get what you pay for with this set. But for a hundreds (and hundreds) less than other brands you'll still have a very quality picture. I'm confident a professional setup will bring out the best of this tv but I'm cheap so I'll leave that to someone else to comment on.
On the down side it has trouble producing detail in deep blacks. The whole trumotion feature seems like a gimmick to me. It makes everything look as if it was filmed with a camcorder. Thankfully it can be turned off. Also the power cord was not long enough (for my setup anyway) because the plug on the back of the TV is on the opposite side from where all the inputs are.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Just Can't Be Beat...
by catsklgd1 on March 18, 2012
Pros: Bright, vivid colors, excellent contrast, good sound, too!
Cons: Not one that I can think of.

Summary: I researched TVs for several weeks, going to big box stores like Best Buy to compare not only brands, but types (LCD, LED, Plasma). In the end, after deciding that LCD was the right choice for me, I concentrated strictly on picture quality and features, with price being the last consideration. Imagine my surprise when, after selecting the LG47LK520, I discovered that it also had the best price. I ended up paying around $575 during a special HH Gregg promotion, and sometimes when I'm watching a streaming Blu-Ray movie on Netflix, using my Panasonic Blue-Ray DVD player, I almost feel as if I stole this TV. I can't imagine anyone ever giving it less than five stars! Now, the cheapest price I see advertised is $799, which I think is still a bargain. Run, don't walk to your nearest dealer and buy this TV. It is awesome!

Nice TV at a decent price; learn to love letterbox...
by K03sport on September 26, 2011
Pros: First HDTV, so bear with me. I have nothing to compare this to as this TV replaces a 13yo 27" CRT-TV. Flip-flopped between the LGs and Samsung D630/D6000. Price at the time let me get the LG47 vs the Samsung40. The 47 is much bigger in the house than in t
Cons: All HD channels and SD channels broadcasting in HD (i.e Fox Football) have the letterbox. This leaves 4" of blank screen top and bottom. I thought buying an HDTV would eliminate this. Sure, I can zoom (2 types), but I don't want to zoom all the time. Stor

I got this TV all wrong. I made the mistake of using the "wrong" cables as in composite (RCA). I picked up an HDMI cable and this TV has transformed itself into pretty darn awesome. I'm sure there are better TVs out there, but w/ the RIGHT cables, this TV is plenty. The HDMI cable allows the TV to work as intended in 1080i/p. HDTV cable channels are fantastic to watch - no letterbox. Words/letters and on screen text are much more clear. I'm still trying to get a hang of the color settings, so for now I'm leaving it on "Sport". I'm also messing with the De-judder and De-Blur features to find the right balance. Too much and things look fake; too little and some details get lost. With the right cables, I'm changing my rating from '3.5' to '4' because it wasn't the TV's fault the whole screen wasn't being used. Lesson #1, The right cables make all the difference and they don't have to be expensive either. AC plug should not be a problem for wall mounting; its actually low profile.

Quality at a great price
by _GrantB on August 2, 2011
Pros: I compared dozens of similar units in multiple stores before settling on this model. For the cost (less than $800) it is head and shoulders above similar models priced at over $1000. After setting up the contrast etc. for my living room, the colours are
Cons: Built-in speakers are a bit tinny. It sounds great through my Kenwood amp, though.
Summary: I purchased this with an internet-ready LG Blu-Ray player. They pair up well; I have had no issues with either.
