Panasonic TC-P50U50 price range: $1,359.60

The good: The inexpensive Panasonic TC-PU50 series in its superb picture quality surpasses many TVs costing hundreds more. Its black levels can get as deep as any but those of the very best plasma TVs. Color is accurate, off-angle viewing and uniformity are perfect, and its Cinema picture setting requires very little tweaking for optimal quality. There's a rare SD card slot for photo viewing.
The bad: The TC-PU50 washes out in bright room lighting, and it can't get as bright in its most accurate picture mode as some plasmas this size. It has just two HDMI inputs. It also uses significantly more power than a like-sized LCD or LED TV.
The bottom line: A low price, excellent picture quality, and bare-bones features make the Panasonic TC-PU50 series a superb entry-level plasma TV value.

Best Flat Panel for the Money!
by bassinbill42 on March 31, 2013
Pros: Deep, saturated color. Fast response time for sports and movie images.
Easy to use remote and on screen menusCons: NONE! If you need a brighter set in your living room, either wait for the sun to go down or erect some curtains. either way you will not be disappointed with the screen's performance.
Summary: This set is absolutely the bomb for anyone looking to either step up in screen size or just getting into the HD screen for the first time. Both my former ...
Summary: This set is absolutely the bomb for anyone looking to either step up in screen size or just getting into the HD screen for the first time. Both my former landlady and I own Panasonic plasma's and we could not be any happier for our choice of purchases. Anyone who can outdo this picture quality under $800 I dare them!

Order 3 in a row and all came broken...
by ryboii on March 3, 2013
Pros: looks nice.... until you see that the screen is totally spider cracked...
Cons: Hairline cracks all 3 swaps and there have been many earthquakes near there plant in california... and very fragile screen!! hairlines are above the rim so you wont see them, then when you apply the smallest amount of pressure it cracks all the way!!
Summary: I do not recomend buying this tv..... DO NOT BUY THIS TV IF YOU LIVE ON THE EAST COAST! shipping across the counrty gives you a 200% more chance of ...

Thermonuclear Bang for $499 Bucks
by Poppypbr on November 26, 2012
Pros: TV has adequate pictures controls for an impressive image. Able to adjust picture in various modes to appropriate levels for regular Broadcasts (Standard), Movies (Cinema), Sports (Vivid) and Games (Custom). Roku2 XS, Blue-Ray provide "smart apps".
Cons: Unjustified that Panasonic doesn't provide full adjustment software on all their TV's like there is on VT software. They could offer VT owners a 20 year warranty, trade-in privilege or set the TV into a black granite bezel with ornate carved stand.
Summary: This TV gives up nothing in picture quality and its plenty bright for my sunlit room with 8.5 feet of bow window and 4.5 ft side window. TV ...
Summary: This TV gives up nothing in picture quality and its plenty bright for my sunlit room with 8.5 feet of bow window and 4.5 ft side window. TV as bright as son's ST with C.A.T.S turned on and compares well with brother-in-laws VT65 saving $2,000, in spite of the missing detail adjustments for gamma, gray scale and color spectrum. You'd have to pay plenty more and then face the feeling that the dollars are not well spent.

Definitely worth it

Summary: One nice byproduct of the move towards 3D, feature-rich smart TVs is that the relative price of simple, bare-bones, 2D televisions like this one has gone down. I bought the Panasonic TC-P50U50 to replace a 5 year-old 42" Panasonic plasma that cost over a thousand dollars at the time. I was able to get this 50" model for $700 (plus tax).
If you've read the review you know this television is not capable of much except outputting an excellent 2D picture, and in that way it delivers. It took me awhile to tweak the "Custom" picture setting for the best results, but now it looks great. Blu-rays, unsurprisingly, really pop. Of course you also get the plasma benefits of uniform off-angle viewing and deep blacks, though if I *had* to complain about one thing in the image department it's that the screen is very reflective. My old set did a much better job of attenuating reflections; fortunately the new one is in a dark room, but it might be something to consider if glare is an issue for you. -
Picture quality is absolutely stunning.
by reding22 on July 1, 2012
Pros: Picture quality is second to none for a TV under a $1000 bucks. My favorite thing about this TV is that I have five windows in my living room and a west facing sliding glass door that this TV faces and I still get an incredible picture.
Cons: Like all flat panels the sound quality is disappointing. However I am not utilizing the speakers on the TV because I have a home audio system.
Summary: Overall for an entry level TV under a $1000 dollars this TV is awesome. I am so happy with my purchase and would recommend this TV to anyone.

- Description: Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data, and each frame is virtually displayed in a shorter length of time, to create crisp images. Self-illuminating plasma displays can be viewed from anywhere in the living room without any color fading, so images are always clear and beautiful. Each pixel appears exactly the same, so there is no difference in colors even when viewed from an angle. Games are much more fun when there's no lag in operation. VIERA automatically chooses settings that provide the optimal image, so you get super-fast response and no delays. Even dark scenes with delicately rendered details are beautiful and easy to see. Game mode makes all of the game apps on VIERA connect even more fun to play.
