Panasonic TC-P55GT50 price range: $1,527.68 - $2,039.99

The good: The Panasonic TC-PGT50 series exhibited outstanding overall picture quality, characterized by exceedingly deep black levels with great shadow detail, accurate colors, and solid bright-room performance. Unlike LCDs, as a plasma it has superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics. The high-end styling outclasses just about every other TV I've seen. The feature set is well-chosen, including excellent onscreen help options.
The bad: The GT50 isn't as strong a value as some competing plasmas. It uses more power than LCD TVs, and doesn't perform as well in bright rooms as those with matte screens. It doesn't come with 3D glasses. The GT50 is only available in 50-inch and larger sizes.
The bottom line: Superb picture quality and beautiful design place the Panasonic GT50 in the top tier of plasma TVs, but it's more expensive than others with similar performance.

GREAT TV! GREAT PRICE!
by Guerrero-hopso on January 10, 2013
Pros: Picture looks stunning
Blacks are deep and realistic, especially in night scenes
Built in WiFi, Netflix, apps, etc. are good quality and easy to navigateCons: TV is not sexy like some of the others
Remote could use a makeoverSummary: After doing a lot of research and reading countless reviews I decided to pull the trigger on the 55GT50. My previous TV was/is a 46" Samsung LCD from 2006. ...
Summary: After doing a lot of research and reading countless reviews I decided to pull the trigger on the 55GT50. My previous TV was/is a 46" Samsung LCD from 2006. I was all set to order a new Samsung LED, but after reading several reviews and 2 trips to BB I decided to go with this Panasonic plasma instead.
PICTURE 9/10:
The picture is amazing!! The colors are very deep and the blacks are unlike anything I've ever seen on any LCD. It is slightly darker or warmer than an LCD, but after you get used to it, LED's actually appear to be too bright. I have the TV mounted on the wall above the fireplace in a fairly bright and open living room. When the sun is shining directly into the window behind the couch, there is a glare on the screen, but when the TV is on it's not too noticeable. My LCD also suffered from a glare when the sun was shining directly into that window.
I rated the picture 9/10 only because the custom settings that I found online (see below) are far better than the THX settings. I highly recommend using the settings below or at least trying them. I have had no issues with IR or burn in and I did not do any of the crazy break-in procedures that are posted all over the internet. Time will tell, but so far so good.
FEATURES 8/10:
It has everything and more than I need or use. The only thing I wish that it had was the ability to enter more than 1 custom setting per HDMI port. A custom day and night setting would be ideal (available on the VT model).
SOUND 9/10:
It actually has decent sound for being so thin. I use a sound bar, but it still sounds good without it on.
DESIGN 9/10:
The design is thin, pleasing to the eye, and looks great on the wall. The VT gets a 10/10.
I am very pleased with my purchase and for the price tag it's really a no brainer in my opinion. My biggest fear was that it would not be bright enough for my living room, but it turned out to not be an issue at all. I'm currently using the below "day" settings for day/night and it looks amazing.
P.S., you can check for low price guarantee of this TV at my blog: ledsmarthdtvs2k13.blogspot.com/p/panasonic-tc-p55gt50.html

More than worth the money, one of the Best Tv for 2012
by natenatc13 on June 26, 2012
Pros: PICTURE,BLACK LEVELS, Great COLOR,
Cons: No glases included
Summary: You cannot go wrong with Any of the Panasonic Plasmas for the Money, whether it be the ST50 line, GT50 Line or VT50 Line.

I dont have the money for the VT50 line but do for the GT50 and the GT50 for Design, THX setting(Katzmaier review said it had a green tint or cast to the color for flesh tones, on my TV did not see this after my color tunning, THX setting is better then Katzmaier's custom specs, which looks great as well, but you get a more Cinema feel with THX Setting), Picture quality was worth my money.
ST50 great TV, but GT50 better enough in my book to pay the extra $200-$300 more.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Mistaken 9/10 in picture quality. Too soft/not sharp!
by Cnetleo78 on April 18, 2013
Pros: Even for being a person who appreciates plasmas, can't think of one.
Cons: Completely overrated. Soft smooth picture with very little sharpness. There's a reason C/net recommends you keep the sharpness to 0. If you turn it up, the picture becomes grainy and unbearable to watch.
Summary: I might be a bit picky when it comes to TVs, but I enjoy my old HP 42" 720p plasma from 2006 better. I was hoping for a big upgrade ...

Good buy for most people, certainly plug and play
by lnsmithprescott on December 4, 2012
Pros: Absolutely the best blacks you can get. The colors are rich and true. First time settup is a piece of cake and it found my wireless network immediately.
Cons: Good picture but a little soft. Would expect the sharp resolution to jump out at me but it does not. Specs call for three speakers, I can only find one in the back pointing at the wall. Will nee external speakers.
Summary: Good buy for most at $1500

A very good crisp picture edge to edge.
by brutus419 on June 22, 2012
Pros: Much better sound than previous model.
Very easy and intuitive setup.
3D very good thru Blu-Ray. (My only real source for 3D.)
Seems to be very solidly built.Cons: Why can't they at least include any 3D glasses?(Two pair would be ideal)
Summary: I am very pleased with this set so far and would recommend it to others,

- Manufacturer: Panasonic
- Part number: TC-P55GT50
- Description: The display alternately shows images for the left and right eyes. The left and right lenses of the eyewear open and close in sync with this display timing to show separate images to the left and right eyes. By repeating this action at high speed, the brain perceives 3D images. And because this method displays Full HD 3D images just as they are, both eyes receive 3D images in high, full-HD quality.
