The good: The Panasonic TC-PVT50 series produces some of the best pictures ever, with exceedingly deep black levels, highly accurate color, and perfect screen uniformity and off-angle performance. It can get brighter than competing plasmas and performs better in well-lit rooms. Although expensive, it costs much less than comparable LED and especially forthcoming OLED models. Its styling makes it as attractive as any plasma TV I've ever seen.
The bad: The VT50 isn't as strong in terms of value as Panasonic's excellent midtier plasmas. It uses more power than competing LCD TVs, and doesn't perform as well in bright rooms as those with matte screens. It doesn't come with 3D glasses and its 3D picture shows more crosstalk than that of some competing TVs.
The bottom line: The Panasonic TC-PVT50 series represents the pinnacle of current flat-panel TV picture quality.

Best picture quality of any TV on the market
by Alphonse-LX on April 5, 2013
Pros: + Fantastic picture quality
+ Very natural colors
+ Cool feature that allows you to flick content from your phone to the TV
+ Deep blacks, some of the best I've ever seenCons: - Screen is too reflective

Summary: This summer I decided to upgrade to a 3DTV and bought an LG 47LM7600, but it's "Cinema 3D" didn't live up to the hype, so I returned it. To replace it I ended up buying a Panasonic TC-P55VT50, which at the time was exactly double the price of the LG. I had never owned a plasma before and I wouldn't normally have considered one, but as I researched which TV to buy I consistently saw reviewers saying that this TV had the best picture quality of any TV on the market. And they were right.
This TV produces the best-looking picture that I have ever seen on any TV anywhere, period. I am not talking about subtle differences that only a pro would notice--it is a completely different viewing experience. Despite all the research that I did, I did not really appreciate the difference until I had the TV in my living room. Basically, when you watch a movie on this TV, you are seeing it the way it was intended to look. The colours are vibrant without looking fake, the black looks black instead of dark grey, and there is no motion blur at all. In many ways it recreates the picture of a movie theatre. My Sony XBR4 that I used to think highly of now looks washed-out and dull to me. The Panasonic's 3D--the feature that I actually bought the TV for--is also amazing (I only rarely see crosstalk or flicker) and also the best on the market according to some experts, but its high quality is overshadowed by how impressive the overall picture quality is compared to competing TVs.
Another reviewer mentioned that he disliked this TV because the whites weren't bright enough. It is true that the whites are not as bright as on an LCD, but I LIKE the way they look. In the real world, white objects do not have an otherworldly glow like the bright white of an LCD screen, so when you see those objects in a movie they shouldn't look like that either.
Drawbacks? There is really only one major one, which is that this TV does not work very well as a computer monitor. The reason is that to prevent image retention (a.k.a. burn-in) it chops off 5% from the edges of the screen, which is where all of the important buttons and icons are on a computer desktop. You can disable this feature, but that makes the TV very susceptible to image retention, so it's not a good idea. So if you are planning to use your TV as a computer monitor then this TV is probably not a good choice for you. For everyone else, it's the best.

This HDTV is Excellent in many ways.
by johnnydk on January 15, 2013
Pros: I recommends this HDTV for viewing during nighttime, since during day time this HDTV will have some glare on the screen. The color is really accurate and picture quality is just excellent. This HDTV also comes with the 3D image mode which is great.
Cons: Sound quality not as good as the home theater sound quality.
Summary: I recommend this HDTV for viewing during nighttime and if you really like to watch movie and sports at nighttime. I also recommend you check out http://www.squidoo.com/...

The world's best panel crippled by software

The second is the same TV meant for the European market, and believe it or not its panel brightness has been locked at around 65 cd/m2 in the professional mode - rendering this option completely useless!!! In the other factory modes, this TV is relatively okey, but only if you constantly keep switching the eco mode on or off depending if its night or day there. (during daytime you should turn it on, while in the evening turn it off)
I find it really really disgusting that Panasonic cripples this TV for the European market. The USA users can enjoy around 140 cd/m2 panel brightness in the professional mode, while we have do live with less then half of this.
I tell you it is completely useless for its way to dark for even a completely darkened room - or when its midnight - no matter.
In the end I had to stay with "normal" or "dynamic" mode, where colors cannot be fully caliblated (you have white balance option only) and there is NO way to calibrate gamme.
I am very disappointed Panasonic.
This TV could be the very best TV - but why did you have to ship this European model with cut back panel brightness????
Recommended for only those users who can live without calibrated panel, and can swallow the fact that for the same price we got to use a crippled product.
Unless Panasonic issues a firmware fix for this - I say stay away from this TV or get the USA model (55VT50B) and use that one.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I can understand if this was a video game score which is constantly on the screen or something like that, but this was from under an hour of watching one basketball game. I know this specifically, because it's the other teams score that is so prominent. How can a company consciously not back their product up? I will never buy a Panasonic again.

NICE Plasma. The key word is NICE.
by Cnetleo78 on April 18, 2013
Pros: NICE blacks, NICE color.
Cons: So much hype by almost all expert reviewers, just can't see whats so great, but NICE. Too cinema smooth for my liking, need more sharpness and detail. C/nets rec settings were used when I had this set in my dark living room.

Summary: I have a 42" HP 720p plasma from 2006, and wanted to step up. Late 2012 I read all the reviews for this TV. Not wanting to spend the $ for this one initially, I went with the GT50. I was not impressed at all with the GT, so when I returned the GT. My salesman talked me into the VT. This TV is a lot better than the GT, but I am very critical and I am concerned when the words like "jaw dropping", "outstanding", "mind boggling" are used. These are the words of people seeing an HDTV for the first time, and not by a reviewer being objective. If this is one of the best TVs ever, then I can see why sales are struggling. I appreciate a NICE plasma, and this is NICE one. But not the prior to my critical eyes. Hopefully the 2013 will be better so I can get be satisfied before Panasonic decides weather to leave the plasma world. I returned this model in hopes of the 2013s being better.

Summary: Steer away from Panasonic Tv's. I purchased the Viera and it died after only 13 Months. Panasonic said they would do absolutely nothing. After paying $2300 for the set, one would think the mfg would stand behind their product. If you go ahead with your purchase after reading this, remember to look in the mirror when the tv goes black.

Summary: I have purchased two Panasonic plasma's in the last 36 months. The predecessor to this model. The pictures were great, I was happy with the final price and the initial performance of the product. Both plasma's have failed in the last four months. I have contacted Panasonic's customer care center repeatedly. If I am willing to pay for the product to be "evaluated at my expense" (I assume this will be between $150- $200), Panasonic would consider if they should help me out..... Inquiring about this over the last few weeks, this appears to be better than what many customers can hope for from Panasonic. However, it seemed to me that if Panasonice was ready to stand behind their products, I would not be the one paying for an evaluation. If reliability is important to you, it is in your interest to shop carefully prior to your selection. An expensive lesson I just learned.

Absolutely Amazing!!
by mwrocca on June 17, 2012
Pros: Black Levels, thin bezel, plenty of HDMI/AUX ports
Cons: Haven't encountered any yet.
Summary: I've owned this TV for about a month--shockingly, Best Buy actually had the 55" model on sale for $1999, I opted for that rather than the 65."
SO far, ...Summary: I've owned this TV for about a month--shockingly, Best Buy actually had the 55" model on sale for $1999, I opted for that rather than the 65."
SO far, the TV has been absolutely worth very penny! I finally got it calibrated (I used the settings posted in the CNET review as my "starting point" and tweaked from there--it worked well.) and it has made a BIG difference. The out of box THX Cinema setting will honestly be fine for the folks that just want to plug n' play, but its worth taking the time to calibrate.
All in all, the black levels are deep, the color quality is outstanding, and the on board speakers will do an adequate job if you don't want to splurge on a sound system. As I said in one of my comments, I picked up the Sony HT-CT150 Sound bar, just to add a bit more "oomph" until I find an audio set up that will work for me, long term.
If you're thinking about buying a large screen TV, this would be the one!
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Panasonic
- Part number: TC-P55VT50
- Description: The display alternately shows images for the left and right eyes. The left and right lenses of the eyewear open and close in sync with this display timing to show separate images to the left and right eyes. By repeating this action at high speed, the brain perceives 3D images. And because this method displays Full HD 3D images just as they are, both eyes receive 3D images in high, full-HD quality. Unique Panasonic technology converts 2D images into high-quality 3D images in real-time. The image depth is analyzed from the compositional, color and brightness data of each scene, to convert 2D images into naturally beautiful 3D images. In addition to ordinary TV programs, this method can be used to convert a variety of 2D images - such as web content, Blu-ray Disc media, and photos and movies saved onto SD memory cards - into 3D images with a high level of precision.
