Summary: This TV is great. From physical design to picture quality, Panasonic hits the right chords all around.
First off, the reason to buy this TV is for it's picture quality. It looks great out of the box but I recommend using CNET's suggested settings. The only thing I did differently is brighten it up a bit by using the high backlighting option over the low. When you look at this TV you can clearly see a picture quality that is a step above most. Everything is so crisp and clean and the black levels are so deep. I have friends and family that always say to me "they all look the same to me". Well, this one does not look the same. Especially when you pop a blu-ray in. I don't know if I've ever seen a more clean, clear, and deep image as when I put in The Hobbit.
The physical design of the TV is fairly straightforward. Nothing special here, but it looks nice and clean which is what I like.
The interface that Panasonic has set up on this TV is great. I like having a little bit of a computer feel to my TV when I turn it on. When it comes on there are a few panels available to pick. The panels have certain apps that you can customize and things like that. I like the feel of it, but if you don't like that you can change the settings to just have it open to whatever channel you are on. The TV has built in wi-fi which is nice. What is really nice is that is has built in dual band wi-fi. I did not know this when I bought the TV so it was a nice surprise to be able to connect to my 5Ghz signal.
I won't really write anything here on 3D. I don't like 3D and I don't intend to use it, but it's on the TV. So if you want to have 3D, it's there.
What really makes this TV great is its price. Yes, it is $2,300 and yes, you can get 70" TV's from Vizio and Sharp for less than this 65". However, if you move up for the size of the other TV's, you are going to drop down greatly in picture quality. To me, the most important aspect of the TV is picture quality. So at $2,300, this is a great deal. We are talking about picture quality that is on par with Sony's XBR series and Sharp's Elite series. When you start looking at those TV's (which do have great picture quality) you are looking at spending double and maybe even triple what you would spend here on a Panasonic.
So the only thing left to discuss is the issue of this TV being a Plasma. People have got to stop fearing Plasma TV's like they are radioactive. The amount of strain that you would have to put on a modern TV to experience burn-in is insane. We are talking about putting a single, non moving image on your screen for weeks upon weeks without turning it off to even begin to have a chance at a serious burn-in issue. The other idea of Plasma TV's taking up piles of energy to run is also ridiculous. This TV will cost you about $10-$15 more to run over the coarse of a year than a comparable LED. The only legitimate con that I accept about a Plasma is that they run darker than an LED. Yes, they do run darker but you need to evaluate when and where you are going to be using your TV. I personally watch a majority of my TV in my living room at night. For this purpose a Plasma is perfect because a really bright TV at night can be a bit annoying. Yeah, when I watch it on a Saturday afternoon, there is a little bit of glare and it isn't as bright, but it is still a great picture.
All in all, this TV well worth the money. I know that $2,300 isn't chump change, but when we are talking about top end picture quality in TV's, there is no better buy than the Panasonic ST60 series.
