picture quality is outstanding; easy setup.
by rauge001 on November 27, 2010
Pros: Vibrant picture (once the setting is readjusted from standard to vivid). Picture quality is excellent from my over the air roof top broadcast signal (I live in S. Florida).
Cons: Once you have your favorite channels pre-programmed on the remote and press that icon, you are directed to a listing that you have to scroll down and then blindly press ok. Rather than taking you directly to the actual channel that you surf by sight.
Summary: Never thought about owning a plasma after hearing about the problems of the earlier versions (heat, IR, energy usage). Those problems are in the past, and the picture quality is ...
Summary: Never thought about owning a plasma after hearing about the problems of the earlier versions (heat, IR, energy usage). Those problems are in the past, and the picture quality is outstanding. With 600mz, there is no blurring. This Panasonic is my second plasma, the 1st being a 50" Samsung. The Panasonic was too good a deal to pass at $388. I'm just a little annoyed about the remote. As earlier mentioned, you have to jump through too many hoops to access the favorite function. With my Samsung, all you do is hit the favorite button, and on screen appears the playing channel that you can quickly surf to the next visible channel, and so on. With this Panasonic, you hit the favorites button, are directed to a listing of all your pre-programmed choices, scroll down to the one you want, press ok, and wait until that channel appears. If you you don't like what's on, you have to repeat the entire process. By the way, if you don't press ok fast enough, it kicks you out. The remote also feels clumsy in my hand. Anyway, a small annoyance that by no means detracts from an otherwise great bargain at twice the price.

Picture perfect
by glassman_24k on November 11, 2011
Pros: Great picture, great sound, great price, you can stand anywhere & see the picture,(of course you can't stand behind it), easy set up.
Cons: Not sure if this is the tv or just the lighting in my house. We have it mounted on the wall & it seems like any light on the screen will make it harder to see.
Summary: This is a great tv especially for the price. If your wanting a 42" tv, you will NOT be disappointed with this.

Great TV, especially for the money.
by CMarx2007 on January 28, 2011
Pros: Great Color and Blacks. Image retention protection/screen wiper. Lightweight but very stable.
Cons: C.C. on mute doesn't seem to work properly. (could be my HD receiver though) Slight glare.

Summary: I had been shopping and comparing televisions for about three months before I bought this one at the end of November. I'd already noticed for myself that I can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080 so that was a few hundred less right off the bat. I went and compared my top two choices (this, vs a sharp aquos)and based on positive reviews went with this one. I am very happy with it- the images are very bright and clear and there is really virtually no blur- the only time I notice it is when words scroll across the screen quickly (monthly emergency broadcast system) but anything normal looks great- especially sports.
As I stated I do have a problem getting the closed captioning to work on mute, but I'm not convinced it's the TV. I'm supposed to have it set to "off" on the TV, and set CC through the HD receiver, but I think the receiver can't seem to tell when the TV goes to mute. There is also a glare on the screen because I have a window directly across the room from it. Most of the time I don't notice it, but on the occasion I do, I simply close the curtains. I was aware of it when I bought the TV so it was no surprise- it's got a glass panel on the front. (bring a flashlight when looking at TVs)
Since purchasing this I've found a few reviews that complain about a constant buzz from the TV. I've had mine for about two months now and I've never noticed one. What I have noticed instead is the normal high pitched buzz that most electronic devices emit when on (especially TVs and monitors) but with any sort of volume I can't hear it.
I'm planning on buying another television soon for my bedroom and I will be going with another (smaller) Viera, I've already done all my legwork so the decision is an easy one. The cons I listed should not really be a deterrent to buying it (unless you're putting it in a glass room ;-) )- I would highly recommend it to anyone.
