Panasonic Viera TC-P65VT25 price range: $3,499.99
- Reviewed by: David Katzmaier
- Reviewed on: 06/16/2010

The good: Superior black-level performance and excellent shadow detail; accurate primary colors in THX mode; great color saturation; effective antireflective screen; reproduces 1080p/24 cadence properly; VieraCast provides access to select Internet services and improved customization; solid 3D picture quality; includes 3D glasses.
The bad: Relatively expensive; last year's Panasonic plasmas lost black-level performance over relatively short periods of time; non-adjustable grayscale in THX mode; some artifacts in 1080p/24 mode; fewer streaming services and apps than the competition; uses more power than LCDs and newer plasmas.
The bottom line: With both 2D and 3D sources, Panasonic's flagship TC-PVT20/25 series plasma TV delivers outstanding overall picture quality.

Great picture
by bbarton on March 30, 2011
Pros: In THX mode there really isn't any need to tweak the settings. . It replaced a 62 inch DLP, I don't regret the purchase.
Cons: I paid $4000 with a free 3d blueray and 3 pair of 3d glasses. That was in January. The prices I see now seem way high! The 3d is interesting, but 2d is my main interest.
Summary: If you want the best, go for it! You won't be dissappointed.

Must have for 3D gaming and HD TV and Blu Ray movies
by patt1289 on March 2, 2011
Pros: Spectacular picture watching HD movies/TV. 3D looks as good as the theater.
Cons: The only real drawback is how much you don't get done while being immersed in video ecstasy. I didn't experience any discomfort with the glasses.
Summary: Finished the 3D demo for killzone on PS3. It is like the experience going from a PS2 to the PS3. The experieince is incredible and you feel as if you ...
Summary: Finished the 3D demo for killzone on PS3. It is like the experience going from a PS2 to the PS3. The experieince is incredible and you feel as if you are actually in the action. The Avatar 3D is worth the price of admission. HD movies on netflix were better than the original DVDs taking up precious space. I have hooked every source I have (Dell Laptop, Dell Studio Desktop, SD Card from JVC HD camera and the camera HDMI, a Canon DLSR, wifes Olympus S/D, PS3, XBox, 3D DVD Player, PS2, Onkyo Receiver, Comcast cable (DSS coming soon) Droid X, and a few SD flash cards laying around with pictures. There were no issues of the TV not recognizing content. I can honestly say this is a picture not available on anything else in the price range. 2D video games using the THX setting are a whole new experience. After several days of veiwing, I looked for pixelization and motion blur. I found a few instances, but it was way too much work to find them. The bottom line with any purchase is; will you get buyers remorse later on? I cannot predict the future, but for now, I give this set 5 smiles.

Phenomenal Picture, can a picture really get any better?

Summary: I have been on a mission since HD came to market and this is my 7th big screen HD TV and my search has ended until 80" plus plasma displays become available and somewhat affordable. Fantastic HD picture, that's all I was looking for and I found it. Previous sets (all 1080p) 52" Mitsubishi Diamond DLP, Samsung 50" Plasma (worst set of them all, buzzed like crazy even after two service attempts to fix the problem) 50" Sony XBR LCD, 50" Pioneer Elite Plasma (thought this was the one but wanted a bigger screen), 65" Panasonic V10 was awesome but wanted to future proof and upgraded to 3D with the VT25 65". One word described it "AWESOME!" No question about it, buy it.
TV is scheduled for calibration next month. Current set up: 65VT25 Plasma, Panasonic 3D Blu Ray Player, PS3 320GB, XBOX 360 Elite Slim, Slingbox, Monster Power Center 3600, Onkyo 3D Receiver, Polk Audio 7.2 Surround (updating to Definitive Technology Mythos in the near future) Everything hard lined to Comcast internet. I love this stuff!

High pitched squeal and buzzing
by EricBuzz on January 24, 2011
Pros: great picture quality. No calibration needed. Just set to thx
Cons: High pitched squeal and buzzing are driving me crazy. Still under warranty. So far, Panasonic has not fixed it. Uses too much electricity. My power bill went up $50 per month.
Summary: The high pitched sqeal and buzzing is a deal breaker. Would not buy again, unles Panasonic fixes it. For $4,000, I should not have to put up with the ...

Looked great at the store.
by Goatbreeder on December 22, 2010
Pros: Large screen, plasma has the most realistic picture for movies and no motion blurring in fast action.
Cons: Only stayed on for about 20 minutes. 10 blinking red light flashing

Summary: I love this model just not this unit so far. The VT25 series has the best picture and I like plasma screens. I have a Mitsubishi LCD 55" and it is also very nice with a extremely sharp and bright screen. I think the plasma screens present a very detailed but slightly softer image which makes people look more natural. The Mits really shows the makeup on live news broadcasts and animation shows really pop.
Update. well disappointed with the failure on the first day and no replacements available from Best Buy. I called Quality Electronics in Grants Pass OR from the referral from the Panasonic website. They had a tech out in about 3 hours who diagnosed a short on one of the boards. Let my house at 3:00. I called the next AM to see if the parts where available and he didn't know. Called the concierge number with case number and asked if she could tell the parts status. She checked my ticket and advised parts were ordered and had shipped that same day. The arrived the next day and Dave the owner of Quality Electronics arrived at my house after 6:00PM and they installed the new parts and I am in business. So my initial assesment of the concierge service has changed an while no one likes to deal with a problem Panasonic and Quality electronincs made it right in one day. I am impressed by the TV and the service!
Don't get too excited about the Viera Concierge service if you need help. After three attempted calls I got a person who asked if I tried it in a different plug. It was hooked uo the an APC 1500 powerline conditioner and she said sometimes they will shut down if there isn't 5 times the power it needs to run. They didn't know what the 10 red blinks meant. So the retailer is out of stock and a repair man is on the way.

Beautiful Picture. Lots of extras.
by Farm Boy 33 on July 22, 2010
Pros: This TV has a beautiful picture. The best that I have ever seen. It does live up to the hype that Cnet and Consumer Reports has given it. It also has a lot of different input jacks.
Cons: There is nothing that I do not like about this TV.
Summary: Right now 3D viewing is very scarce. Directv has not lived up to all the hype that it has promised in 3D viewing. They have not had any movies to ...
Summary: Right now 3D viewing is very scarce. Directv has not lived up to all the hype that it has promised in 3D viewing. They have not had any movies to rent and very few free shows, but a few that they do have are nice to watch in 3D. Unless you need a new TV, it may be better to wait for the prices to drop. Panasonic is offering Coraline and Ice Age free for a limited time, but you will need a $400 Blu-ray player to see them.

A Editor that is clearly Panasonic bias
by howieshel on November 25, 2010
Pros: Panasonic black level, only thing he can say. then he finds out a few months later that the black level drops off to a lower point and still stay with his panasonic choise.
Cons: Samsung, clearly beats the Panny in every cat that matters except for a free pair of glasses and as a new tv according the the bias editor, the black level, that by Pann own addmis drops off. Say nothing about the cost dif and 1 4th the thickness dif

Summary: Editor is clearly Panansonic bias, the Samsung wins in EVERY Cat. that matters in the long run, unless you want the Panny for 3 months when the only condition for winning drops off. I can take nothing that this person says about any review serious anymore, he is so far off it isn'y even close. I hope your enjoying your free Panansonic, because that is the only way you could come to that conclusion. SAD very SAD.
