CNET has not reviewed the 42-inch Samsung HP-T4254, but we have reviewed the 50-inch Samsung HP-T5064. The two televisions are similar, although the HP-T5064 is larger at 50 inches, has a higher resolution at 1,366x768, and is equipped with a few more features, including a better antiglare screen and a USB port for displaying digital photos. Despite those differences, we expect the two Samsung plasmas to perform similarly. For more information, check out the full review of the Samsung HP-T5064.
Intro:
The Samsung HPT4254 is a 42-inch, plasma television.Compared to other plasma TVs on the market, it is very inexpensive at around $1,110.In general, a liquid plasma display can provide more realistic black-levels than an LCD display can.
Noteworthy Features:
With built-in HDTV compatibility, this television can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition.(It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.)The 3:2 pulldown feature of this set reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.
Weaker Features:
Has only a 42-inch screen size. This is not out of line with the product's price, but is smaller than the average TV on the market today.
Suitability:
A plasma TV, suited for personal entertainment and home theater.
Value:
In view of its very inexpensive price, this TV has great features for the money. In terms of viewable size, plasma TVs with comparable viewable size have an average cost of around $1,460.

Receiving HDTV broadcast:
The three common methods to receive HDTV broadcasts are via satellite-TV set-top box, cable system set-top box, and over-the-air reception from a digital HDTV broadcast station.
True HDTV:
True HDTV programming is now available in three resolutions: 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
Tuner options:
An HDTV-ready satellite or cable box will act as an outboard HDTV tuner for your digital television set that lacks a built-in HD tuner.

This thing is sooo nice. I researched for months and decided on this. If you don't have any 1080p devices than this is the clear choice as it is very decently priced (got mine for 1180) and the performance is amazing. Can't stop watching HD channels even though nothing good is ever on. SD looks better than I expected also. I couldn't be happier. Note: Make sure you are happy with your particular TV. I had to exchange this TV twice (I think the first 2 were dropped in the warehouse) before I was happy with the screen, but the 3rd time was a charm. I love this thing.

This is an amazing product. Totally blown away. I have not wall mounted but I can only imagine how nice it would be.
It has 3 HDMI inputs, computer in, 2 component, 2 S-Videos, etc.. Love it. The optical out is nice for connection to receiver!
Only drawbacks are PIP is not available for other inputs other than the normal channels. I'd like to have hdmi1 and hdmi2 on different PIP. Changing sources is also slow and has to go through the whole circle before getting to different inputs. The remote doesn't have the correct programming codes for my cable box.

My father watched Golf as if it were in High Def 3D...the picture quality is unmatched and the 15,000 to 1 contrast makes all the difference. HDMI connections are a must and the Samsung has 3. The set swivels and is an absolutely beautiful high gloss black. Plus it barely tips the scale at 70lbs. I love the HDTV tuner...free programming is a must. PIP is nice for a watching a movie while keeping up on a sporting event. This TV cost almost half of my first Panny Plasma, but is loaded with more features and twice the quality and performance. The only bad thing is the sound quality, which is easily compensated with an Onkyo receiver and KEF speakers.

I think that this TV has been the best purchase that we have ever made. We searched and searched until we came to the decision to get this TV.
I think that the picture is crisp and clear, the design of the TV is sleek and very modern. All the inputs that are available makes it very handy for all the electronics I hook up to it. We haven't been able to use the HDMI inputs yet, but 3 of them is plenty when we need to!
The downside of this TV is the screen burning, but with most all Plasma TV's you do have this issue. It's nothing major, but images will burn into the screen if the image is on there for more than 10-15 minutes. It does have a feature to clear this which is wonderful!! Great purchase, I would recommend this TV to anyone!!!

I got this TV from BestBuy at a really good price a couple of months ago. This TV is really made for watching HD Channels and Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies!! The picture quality matches those plasmas with much higher prices like Pioneer! Just visit your local store and compare it yourself with other higher priced plasmas.
This is one of the very few plasmas i've seen that has so many options to prevent Screen Burn issues. I have been playing PS3 games on this TV and have never experienced any "Image Retention" or "Screen Burn" issues.

This TV is amazingly clear. The HD is incredible. The contrast Ratio makes the difference between it and the Panasonic 42 inch plasma. I hav been shopping around for 3 moniths and finally chose this TV for it's clarity and function. The only downside I see is that the Picture in picture only works for different sources. Cable and DVD for example. I can't watch two games at once which would have been nice. Otherwise this TV is a 10 hands down. I will update with my experience in the next couple of months in case anything has happened to the TV...Bought this at Circuit City for 1400. Well worth it.

This is an excellent tv. The picture quality is awesome. There are many configuration options. Three HDMI inputs is always a plus. The sound is ok but you can't expect perfect sound from tiny tv speakers. One thing though.... If you are using a Time Warner DVR with HDMI you need to get into the settings of your DVR and change the digital audio out to HDMI. HDMI is only an option if you have the cable plugged in. Once you do that you will get sound. Other than that issue (which is a Time Warner thing anyway) I love this TV! At the store the Samsung had an as good or better picture that any other 42" plasma they had.

It took me 6 months of hesitation and verification of every reviews I can find about ALL Plasma TV to finally decide myself to grab my 1st one of those magnificent Plasma TV and I think I choose the perfect one of them all.
I got 3 HDMI entry (one sided panel (practical for easy accessing connection - 2 behind) + 42in. wide panel which is clearly enough for my 12' by 16' living room. + Excellent sound quality included = An excellent product at a very good price compare to the same kind of product from Panasonic Brand.

Burn-in... it happens especially when wachting channels that have constant logos, etc. Now, as far as anti burn-in features not that bad. burn-in barely noticeable. In my case, I paid $550.00 for my HP-T4254 at Best Buy w/ an open box discount of $750.00. So it didn't bother me so much since you just can't beat it. As far as the picture in HD; spectacular, amazing, and compaired to LCD it's superior, for now. Standard definition unfortunately not that great especially after you get an HD signal and you see what this T.V. can do, WOW what a diffrence. Anyways if you can get a good deal buy it otherwise you may want to go with an LCD but know that your picture even though it may seem like it's the same chances are it's not better than a good plasma like this one. Also the sound as far as I'm concerned isn't as bad as people say and my sound doesn't go out w/ my HDMI cable like I've seen in some reviews. If you want surround sound "buy it". I don't think there is a set out that gives sound quality beyond what you'd expect from a T.V. It's that simple.

Where do I start?we were going to wait until fall 2008 to get a HD flat panel, but the trusty 36? Sony Wega XBR died in August 2007 during a F1 race and we were relegated to watching our 27 year old 36? Projection XBR with a dying blue gun, so naturally the significant other said ?honey, find us a TV and try to get it by the end of the year, lol. She knows that I get all crazy read; anal, looking at specs, going down to the local store, big box store (I?m lucky Fry?s, BB and CC with a Magnolia are all within 2 miles of me), so the quest began. First how much do we spend?.geez what a range of prices and features, plasma, LCD. Decided that since it was for the bedroom an LCD would be best since we watch more TV than movies in there... looked at low end, 750 ? 1000, yuck, crappy picture, cheap cabinets, next level 1000 ? 2000, Getting better, nicer picture, better materials, better remotes, speakers still eh. Next, 2000 ? 4000, WOW what a difference a grand plus makes. Awesome pictures, cabinets, speakers, features, HDMI hookups. So after narrowing my 3 month research down to two TV?s, see why my wife said before the end of the year, I got it down to Samsung LN-T 4665 and the XBR KDL-46XBR4. Three days later me and 286 of my fellow works got our pink slips. F F F F F One week before Christmas, F F F F So long story short, I?ll be damned if we weren?t getting a new TV wife agreed, ended up with a Samsung HPT4254. Love this TV, Can?t believe I didn?t look at this to begin with, it is a plasma but wow, and I paid only $989 out the door from CC. Just getting it tuned in so I will get back as soon as I do, but sooo far awesome. Get this TV.
