Samsung LN-T2653H
price range: $656.83 - $844.07

The bottom line: CNET did not review the Samsung LN-T2653H, but we did review a larger model in the series.
Although CNET did not review the 26-inch Samsung LN-T2653H, we did review the 32-inch Samsung LN-T3253H. Judging from their spec sheets, the two Samsung flat-panel LCD HDTVs are similar but for screen size, contrast ratio, and number of inputs (the 32-incher adds a third HDMI jack and a USB port to the side panel), so we expect the picture quality of the 32-inch model to provide a good indication of how the 26-incher will perform (although with a lower contrast ratio, this model may have inferior black-level performance). For more information, refer to the full review of the Samsung LN-T3253H. For additional details on Samsung's mainstream 2007 flat-panel LCD HDTVs, click here.

Summary: I love Samsung LCD TVs because they are generally have a great picture and features. However, there is a problem with this model becase many of the units emit a high pitched noise. Many Amazon user review acknowledge this issue. Stay away from this model until Samsung fixes the problem. I bought one and hate the fact that I am returning it because I love the TV.

Summary: I bought my Samsung about a month ago after a lot of research. My original plan was to use it as a double between a computer screen and a monitor, but my 19 inch HP is still kickin so its just a TV for now.
Out of the box, the set was a breeze to set up. Auto scan found all the channels that I had been used to on previous tvs, as well as digital HD programming I didn't even know I had.
Picture is great, even the analogue channels come in clear. I also have no complaints about the sound, and once I hooked it up to some exterior speakers it really blasted it out.
Video gaming for older systems is poor, but that is to be expected on newer TVs. I guess it's time to update my rusty old PS2
Overall, good set for the price. Looks great even when its not turned on. -
Excellent quality, great out of the box plug and go.

Summary: I had the 32" version and upgraded my bedroom 19" crt to the 23" Samsung. Hooked it up to my standard STB (waiting for the HD unit from Verizon) and was up and running immediately. Fine tuned a few settings and was very impressed with the picture quality and experienced no motion artifacts. I can not wait to get the HD channels hooked so I can take full advantage of the set, but the standard signals were not bad, certainly better than the standard signal on my larger screen. I look forward also to using an HDMI hook-up which should significantly improve the sound (stereo) and picture over the standard cable connection.

Summary: I had to return my first one to Sears the day after I bought it. The sound failed and would not recover. Just a load steady click. The second tv also has a sound problem, a vibration in the speaker if the decible level gets over the 23 setting. Too bad. And I used to sell Samsung. I think I would tell friends to go with Sony or Toshiba.

Excellent set with fantastic picture. Good value for money.
by liflyer on February 9, 2008
Pros: Superb picture and contrast lots of set up options. The 26 inch screen appears much larger. Excellent for bedroom or smaller den.
Cons: A backlit remote would be helpful for all the remote buttons instead of just 4.
Summary: A really great set with an excellent, sharp picture and a large setup menu to allow the set to suit individual preferances.

Perfect for Bedroom or Small Den
by rwsani on December 28, 2007
Pros: Awesome picture, great at any viewing angle, easy to use on screen menu, sound on TruSurround in HD Dolby 5.1 is superb, great looking frame (stylish and compact) and very easy to setup and assemble.
Cons: One more HDMI input would have been nice.

Summary: I thoroughly enjoy my Samsung ln-t2653H. I looked at all the HD sets on the Circuit City showroom floor before buying it. The width of my bedroom is 11 feet making the 26 inch screen perfect for viewing there. A 32 inch TV would have been a little larger than needed and would have detracted from the room?s furnishing. A 23 inch would have been all right, but not as good as the 26. I chose the ln-t2653H because it has a smaller and more attractive frame (more compact and stylish) than the ln-t2642H. The ln-t2653H also has a skosh more (5000 vs. 4000) contrast ration than the ln-t2642H. I set the TV on my chest of drawers about a foot from the wall. The picture is awesome in detail, clarity and color when on a high definition channel. I can now see the real "hair root" color and facial details (including blemishes and whatever else) of TV announcers, game show hosts and actors. In basketball games, I see the seams of the ball in the air, and the action has no blur. I now see every player's name clearly on their jersey in Football games. The "sweet spot" for me is about 6 and 1/2 feet from the screen. Viewing anywhere from 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 feet is phenomenal to great, and excellent to very good from 7 1/2 to 9 1/2 feet. The picture control in the ON SCREEN MENU gives good options for best viewing. Not all of the HD channels and none of the standard channels with Comcast are in 16:9 (wide screen). The WIDE FIT setting easily fills the screen (removes the letterbox) when I am settled in to watch a program produced in standard 4:3. The sound is better than any TV that I have had in the past. On an HD channel with Dolby 5.1, the TruSurround XT is especially good. The clear plastic shield at the bottom of the screen deflects the sound from the speakers outward toward viewers. The customized sound settings have some excellent options. I generally leave the sound setting on MOVIES for a best all around listening. As a PC monitor, the ln-t2653H serves me well. I have it cabled to an old laptop at 1024 x 768 resolution. It is better than my 19 inch LCD computer monitor. I got a $100.00 discount on purchase at Circuit City from my cable provider Comcast in Atlanta to upgrade to HDTV. The home setup of the HD box was $30.00 and my monthly rental on the box is $6.95 to get HD continuously on some channels including, but not limited to: A&E, CNN, HIST, DIS, ESPN, ESPN2, APLAN, TNT, MHD, SCI and local broadcast.. It is worth it to me. I had the TV a week before the HD box, and the hit or miss of getting HD channels without the box seriously limited my enjoyment of the TV. I have not tried HD on antenna yet. I am using inexpensive HDMI cables to avoid cable clutter, and they are working well. As the HD experts at CNET.com have written, I could not tell the difference between HDTVs with 720p and 1080p resolutions on any HD sets on the showroom floor until I looked at a 40 inch or larger set and then only when too close for me to watch comfortably. I think this HD TV is a great buy if you get it on sale and plan to use it in a bedroom or small den / living room area. The assembly (simple to do and the TV is light weight) and the setup are easy (good instructions in the manual) for anyone not too technically challenged.
