Perfect in all but one respect (which can be easily overlooked)

Summary: Coming from a Sony Trinitron flat tube, this is an amazing TV overall. Since my tube died last month, I've spent many hours researching the internet and stores. I started out like many, looking only at price. After the first couple visits (and a few talks with sales clerks), I found myself trying to justify spending $3k+ on a set with the so-called "top of the line" features. After struggling with myself for weeks, I decided to forget about things like 'motion-flow' (120hz) and others, since these will undoubtedly become standard manufactured features in a year or so - much like 1080p is now. I then narrowed my results between the Samsung and Sony. After a side-by-side comparison between these two evenly matched sets with respect to price, size, resolution and the same signal coming in from the store, there was little question in my decision to go with this Samsung. It has excellent contrast with more vivid and realistic colors than the comparable Sony (at any distance). I've found only one flaw with this set, but to me it can easily be overlooked since I'm running a Bose home theatre and don't use the TV speakers. That said, be warned. The sound emitted from this bottom-speaker arrangement is less than average. Plan to connect an external audio source and be 'blown-away'.... It's obvious the entire R&D went into the picture, where it's most important.
Hope this helps.14 out of 14 users found this user opinion helpful.

Excellent LCD right out of the box!
by seabassone on March 29, 2007

Summary: After 80+ hours(Over a three month time span) of research, I purchased my first flat panel HI-DEF TV. It was between the Sony Bravia V2500 series, Sharp, and Samsung LN-4095D. I decided against the Sharp because of color and contrast, it just was not in the same league as the Sony and Samsung. I do think it is a good TV, just not the one for me. The Sony, side by side to the Samsung, did have slightly more true color tone, but not worth the price difference. I did find out that Samsung, and Sony use the same actual LCD panels, it is all the tweaking and internals that are different. I then found out that Samsung's new stuff comes out in March and April, instead of August and September. So I waited to see what would replace the 95d. The LN-T4061F, 65F, 66F series is the new series of Samsung 40" 1080p LCD TVs. On to the LN-T4061F.
Packaging was very good. Product was well protected, yet extremely easy to remove from the box. Contents listed on the box were also in the box(I have bought things where the contents list was wrong or had missing items).
Style. WOW! This is where function and form are at their best. Very nice black piano finish, chrome accents, hidden bottom speakers, oval shaped swivel stand.
Picture. Digital standard definition channels come in just slightly off color, and with a little grain to them. Analog standard definition channels are viewable, but you will definitely want the upgrade to digital cable. Picture was just bad enough I found those channels annoying to watch. My standard TV had a much superior picture on those channels. Hi-def channels in 720p and 1080i are excellent. Great natural colors, maybe a little on the cool side, but you can change to 5 preset color modes or configure each color individually. There was no blurring during fast moving scenes. Deep blacks, shades of gray, and bleach white all displayed well in the same scene. Only cons about the picture, out of the box, a little cool, back light is set to bright for my living room(and I have a south facing bay window!), contrast is also to high(never thought you could actually say that about an LCD until I viewed this one). All of these can be re-configured though.
My true test ? Xbox 360 w/G.R.A.W. 2 at 1080p. hmmm, I can't even think of a proper adj. to describe my initial reaction. It is fantastic. Detail is excellent, color is excellent. No loss of detail in dark areas, and actual true black and white are displayed. I was worried about blurring, but experienced none. maps that I hated to play on my standard TV do to the game lighting being dark, are now fantastic to play on.
My other test was my Sony handy cam with 1080i resolution and HDMI cable. looked fantastic. did notice what seemed to be a refresh stuttering between chapters changing, but this might be the camcorder and not the TV.
Sound is average. I was a little disappointed in the sound for this price of a TV, it was hollow sounding. My Toshiba CRT has nicer sound. However, if you have an audio receiver, this will not be a concern.
My only negative, I did not mention in the cons, because I believe it can be resolved, is that any picture settings I make are lost when I either change the signal source or power the TV off/on. It always reverts to the factory settings. I am sure I can figure this out, or Samsung support can help. I have not had the time to call them. I will update this review when I have found a solution.
Overall I am very pleased with the quality of this television.14 out of 15 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I found a great deal on this TV for $2000 with no tax or shipping. When I got the TV, I not only saw a gorgeous TV, but a gorgeous image.
Before I gush some more about the TV, let me go over a couple of minor cons. The remote does react slowly to inputs. Luckily I only use it to change the source. Otherwise, I use my cable box remote. So, if you have a cable box, the remote won't be a big issue. Otherwise, that might be a frustrating aspect. Also, SD channels don't look very good, but I've gone through 3 other HDTVs, and I've yet to see one that handles SD very well, but out of what I've seen, the SD on this set is merely average.
I haven't had a chance to program my universal Logitech remote to see if that helps any with the remote issue, but I can update this later once I know.
The review before me mentions average sound, but I felt the sound was fabulous, but I do sit only 6 feet away from the TV, so maybe the further you get, the worse the sound becomes. But I really felt the sound was just right.
Ok, so let me get to the pros. The amount of inputs is staggering. There are 3 HDMI inputs (1 with CEC, 1 meant for computer input via DVI>HDMI cables and third for whatever you please) [but you can use all 3 HDMI slots for whatever HDMI input you want], 2 component inputs, 1 vga input and the rest of the normal inputs like composite, RF and s-video. The image quality was fantastic right out of the box, actually, but there are definite ways you can tweak it. Darkening the image by setting energy saver down darkens the image to better quality. Also some tweaking of contrast, color and sharpness is definitely under way if you're a stickler for image perfection, and I think the TV does a fantastic job of giving you the options to do so.
I am a huge gamer. I have my Xbox 360 plugged in via VGA in 1080p. It looks fantastic. I have my PS3 plugged in via HDMI in 1080p. It looks fantastic, and I have my Wii plugged in via component (only goes to 480P), but it also looks fantastic. The colors pop, the detail is so sharp that I actually have been finding flaws in the games I play which is bittersweet! It's nice to know the image quality is clear, but then you start seeing some ugliness the developers didn't want you to see.
Also, the TV itself is just gorgeous. I think the shiny black look is just sexy. It's all shiny black like my PS3, so it's cool that they kinda match in that way. The strip at the bottom which deflects sound since the speakers are on the bottom of the TV also adds a very beautiful and sleek complement to the already gorgeous TV.
Anyway, I can't gush enough about this TV. I think the image is gorgeous, the options you have are plentiful, the system is future proofed with 1080p, the contrast ratio is great (10:000:1 and it shows), the TV looks fantastic and the swivel stand adds a convenience to the back of the TV that just makes you wonder why all TVs don't have swivel stands.
Fully recommended.

Summary: I got this for 999 at fry's the day after christmas WOW!!! I have a vizio 46" 720p that was the main TV no more. The picture is outstanding with Directv in both HD and SD the vizio has some problems with SD and 1080i. The preset picture settings are great the need little tweeking. Samsung said this the low end 1080p, but so much better than low end brands( Vizio, Insignia, westinghouse, ect. I do not have a HD DVD player (only Upconvert) letting the battle wage. Did put a friends PS3 on it and it looked better than the Vizio and meet the robinsons looked great. Cartoons are the best way to test a TV because of the colors and motion and the CGI.

Summary: i purchased this tv a week ago and till this day, im still blown away. this tv is solid for a reasonable price. when you play video games on your xbox and blue ray dvds on your playstation 3, you will be blown away by the picture quality. at first i was being greedy and thought why not spend a little more to get a 46 or a 52'. then i thought to myself, why bother spending an extra 800 bucks to watch the same quality on a bigger screen. also, the lnt4065f model may have a slighter advantage on the contrast ratio, however every other specifications is the the same. that saves me a couple hundred bucks. this is a great investment and a great product. ive read bad reviews about the sound on this tv but i strongly disagree. its loud and crisp. it may not be the same quality as 2000 speakers, but it is very solid

Summary: Had this tv a week, and for the most part I am truly impressed with it. The picture in HD is fantastic. Colors, brightness, contrast, and clarity are all excellent. Blacks seems really good to me also. Non HD digital channels through Cox (Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD DVR) are acceptable - some more than others - but not a huge issue since all major networks and then some are available on HD channels, even if they are not truly HD, the picture quality is superior than the non HD digital feeds. This tv is for my bedroom, so I don't really intend to watch too many movies, or have a ps3 hooked up to it, but the (3) hdmi 1.3 + all the other inputs are more than enough for anybody I would think. Remote is a little slow, but like another user said, I use my cable remote, so it's not really an issue. The one problem I am having though is on a black screen, I'm seeing some bleeding of the backlight in the top corners. Like somebody has a little flashlight that they are shining diagonally down toward the center. It's faint, but it's there, and as the tv stays on for an extended period of time, they do get a little bigger. I actually took the first 4061F back to CC today and exchanged it for another (same model) and this one is a little better, but there still is a little bleeding through. Factory Backlight is set @ 10, and by moving it down to 6 or 7 it almost goes away - changing the energy saving settings to low / med / high instead of off also helps, but I'm not sure if this should be happening at all, and wonder if I'm being too picky. This is not an issue at all when a normal picture is on the screen, only when the screen is black.
People have said the speakers on this tv aren't great, but for me, they sound pretty good. 7' away from the tv, and not expecting too much out of them in my bedroom, I found them to be just fine.
For the money, seems like a pretty good tv.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

TV Failed in 1.5 years
by rcphx on January 28, 2009
Pros: Picture quality stands out in side-by side comparison with competitors and features are good.
Cons: Reliabilty. Cost. Whatever happened to the the addage "You get what you pay for"? I was willing to pay up for what I thought was better quality and believe a tv should last a good 10 years.

Summary: I was impressed with the Samsung when I purchased it and was very happy with it up until it started having problems only 1.5 yrs old. Over a several week period, the tv started cycling thru power-up taking minutes to come on, and then it would often have purple pixels all over the black background - turning off/on again would usually resolve this; but over time it would come on with multi-colored vertical lines in the display - turning off/on would cycle and come on, but ultimately the day came when the tv just cycled thru power on, light flashing then a clicking sound, and never came on, just continued to cycle - after an hour or so of this I unplugged it.

Put the comparable Sony model to shame! AMAZING!

Pros: Beautiful Image Quality, True 1080p Connectivity, 3 HDMIs

Summary: I've been in the market for a good 42" 1080p LCD for a while, and have always found myself coming away from stores empty-handed since I have ridiculous image quality standards and no desire to spend over $1500. So I went into Best buy last week fully expecting to come away disappointed again. I was looking over the 42" part of the TV wall and noticed that 2 of the TVs blew all the other ones away, even the Sony models next to them. The two TVs were this Samsung and its 120 Hz cousin. The 120 Hz version was too expensive at about $1800, especially for 40", at 2" less than what I wanted. But when I looked at the price of the LN4061 I was pleasantly surprised. It was on sale for $1299, and since I had a 10% off coupon I bought it immediately on impulse, not giving a damn about sacrificing 2" on screen size..the picture was THAT good! Yeah, it's not 120 Hz (the new standard in 1080p), but it's still 60 Hz, true 1080p with a 10,000:1 CR.
After enjoying it for about a week, all I can say is that this is the first time I haven't regretted an impulse buy. The picture is AMAZING and even my Blu-Rays look 100% better over my previous 720p TV. Just get a Blu-Ray player, an HDMI cable, a decent sound system and this TV and you will be floored. Absolutely insane and Worth every penny! Don't bother spending the extra $ on Sony, you're wasting your money.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I went from a 480 Panasonic Tau television last month, and am floored by this TV. I'm the kind of person that goes to best buy once a month to just look and evaluate, and not buy anything. So I've been looking for my next TV for years. This TV is hooked up via HDMI to my HD DVR and my Xbox 360 with optical cable from the TV to my 5.1 (Samsung
) stereo. From HD hockey & basketball to Halo 3, there is nothing I'd rather watch it on than this TV. Another poster said that the bottom speakers are a potential con. I view them as a huge plus. I knew I wouldn't be using them and didn't want them to be visable. I wanted a clean "picture frame" look, and this TV delivered the exact look I wanted.
Also, please buy HDMI cables whatever you buy, they're worth every penny.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: When I got this tv i had everything ready. I had reconfigured my 5.1 surrond sound that had a pure digital connection with to my PS3 (my ps3 is the reason why i decided to make the jump). Furthermore instead of ordering a $200 stand I just made on in my wood room. Anyone with some woodworking skill should consider this as it will save you a lot of money.
I had done a lot of looking around the internet for the perfect TV for my ps3, and after a lot of searching I finally settled on this one. One hudge reason I felt good about going with this TV was the CNET review of its bigger model the 46". Not only did it highlight all of features I found important but also gave the money saving calibration results.
Out of the box the set looks great, but properly calibrated it looked even better. Because I game on it so much I decided to turn on the game mode, and was met by great results. The game mode when engaged turn off detailed picture settings but shortens the response time so that there is no lag (not that I could desern any with it disengaged). It also changes some of the video processing to make the picture much more vivid and pleasing to look at. When playing games it should allways be turned on. IT IS A GREAT IMPROVEMENT.
I am just a few days into my pruchase and have found nothing wrong with the set. No dead pixles, nothing wrong at all. Buying from amazon gave me more that my money's worth. I GOT THIS TV FOR $1299 AND FREE SHIPPING. GO AMAZON! I don't use the speakers on the TV so the price to picture ratio results in me giving this product a perfect 10. My PS3 has never looked so good.
If you are looking for a 40" flatpannel look no further, because this is the best deal out there. Excuse me while I go play more COD 4 in 1080p.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
