Although CNET did not review the 40-inch Samsung LN-T4081F, we did review the 46-inch Samsung LN-T4681F. Judging from their spec sheets, the two Samsung flat-panel LCD HDTVs are essentially identical but for screen size, so we expect the picture quality of the 46-inch model to provide a good indication of how the 40-incher will perform. For more information, check out the full review of the Samsung LN-T4681F. For additional details on Samsung's lineup of higher-end flat-panel LCD TVs, see our roundup.
Intro:
The Samsung LN-T4081F is a 40-inch, liquid crystal display television.Compared to other liquid crystal display TVs on the market, it is relatively expensive at around $2,390.This TV is an LCD display, which is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms.
Noteworthy Features:
This TV has multi-channel preview (PIP), though it requires a DVR or VCR to provide a second tuner. With built-in HDTV compatibility, this TV set can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition.(It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.)The 3:2 pulldown feature of this set reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.
Weaker Features:
Has only a rear connector location.
Suitability:
A liquid crystal display TV, suited for home entertainment as well as work place applications. Also, a wide aspect display such as this one is ideal for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming.
Value:
Overall, this TV's price seems a bit steep, with respect to its features. In fact, you would usually pay about 30% less to get a liquid crystal display TV with similar viewable size.

Tuner options:
An HDTV-ready satellite or cable box will act as an outboard HDTV tuner for your digital TV set that lacks a built-in HD tuner.

I got this tv to replace my 50" samsung plasma. 50" was too big for the room. Although this one is 40" it really didn't seem much smaller as far as screen size.
The factory presets don't make the picture look very good. Once those are adjusted it easily became the best HD I've seen. The LED backlights really work wonders to help create great color contrast and stunning blacks like nothing seen before.
My current HD source is a DirecTV receiver model H10 connected via component jacks. My HD DVR will be installed Oct. 17th which will be connected via the HDMI jacks so I'm looking forward to a slight improvement there also.
I just got a DVI-HDMI cable so I'm going to hookup my computer (Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS) to the TV and check out some gaming on it.
All-in-all, I'm very satisfied with this TV, Samsung has once again put out a quality product at a great price. I highly recommend this TV.

I just received my LN-T4081F. I purchased it through Amazon. The contractor who fulled the order was Electronics Expo in New Jersey. I paid $2199 with no tax and free shipping. I reviewed many LCD over the lat 3 months before I made my decision. I was close to purchasing a Sony XBR4 or XBR5 but I saw the 4081 side by side with the XBR5 at a Best Buy. It blew the Sony out of the water.
After receiving the unit it took all of 5 minutes to set it up. However after reading CNET's review of the 4681 I checked for the latest firm ware version. To my dismay my 4081 had the 1003 firm ware. A little surprising since I purchase it in April 2008 and according to the serial number the LCD was made las August 21st. I called Samsung support and requested the 1008 firm ware. I was told the latest revision was 1008.3. They sent me a firm ware update withing 2 days. It uploaded with no issue. The new version if 1009 dated January 21, 2008.
After uploading the new firm ware I set the LCD's parameters to those listed under the CNET's review of the 4681. The image is spectacular.
I know this LCD is a little pricey but when you compare it to the Sony's (about the same price) it stands alone. I guess one can say there is no comparison.
