Although CNET did not review the 40-inch Samsung LN40A450, we did review the 52-inch Samsung LN52A650. Judging from their specification sheets, the two Samsung LCD HDTVs are essentially identical but for screen size, so we expect the picture quality of the 52-inch model to provide a good indication of how the 40-inch set will perform. For more information, refer to the full review of the Samsung LN52A650.
Intro:
The Samsung LN40A650 is a 40-inch, liquid crystal display television.Compared to other liquid crystal display TVs on the market, it is midpriced at around $1,715.This TV is an LCD display, which is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms.
Noteworthy Features:
With built-in HDTV compatibility, this unit can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition.(It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.)The 3:2 pulldown feature of this TV reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.
Weaker Features:
Has only a rear connector location.
Suitability:
Designed for those who want to enjoy an ultra-sharp picture from an ultra-thin TV.Also, a wide aspect TV such as this one is well suited for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming.
Value:
In general, this TV has good features for the money.
Suggestions:

Receiving HDTV broadcast:
The three common methods to receive HDTV broadcasts are via satellite-TV set-top box, cable system set-top box, and over-the-air reception from a digital HDTV broadcast station.
True HDTV:
True HDTV programming is now available in three resolutions: 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
Tuner options:
An HDTV-ready satellite or cable box will act as an outboard HDTV tuner for your digital TV set that lacks a built-in HD tuner.

Much like you hear in reviews all the time, I shopped around for an HDTV for years. I would have pulled the trigger sooner, but my wife was in the way Luckily for her, because the new model came out and after a few glasses of wine and a tax return she was on board. I have an XBOX 360, and I can't tell you how great these games look on the TV. Madden (in 1080p) is incredible, especially since I played it for almost a full year on a standard def. GTA IV (in 720p) is simply awesome. I bought this TV about a month after GTA IV, and the difference is night and day. I was going to save some money and get a Vizio 42 inch, because at the local gamer shop I thought it looked great, but boy was I wrong. Now I just have to convince my wife that we need to switch from digital cable to a dish network for more HD channels. Speaking of which, these shows look so realistic. I was watching Deadliest Catch on Discovery HD, and after a couple drinks I thought I was on the damn ship. Go out and get this TV!!!

Purchased a Digital-lifestyles TV from HSN. TV was OK but the operator's manual and customer service was horrible. Returned Digital Lifestyles TV and purchased the Samsung. Overall very happy with this TV. Wanted the additional picture-in-picture feature. This function works OK but you have to go to too many menu steps to change to the PIP then you have to go thru another set of menu steps to get the sound on the PIP. Almost makes this feature unusable. Was hoping for a single button to switch back and forth so I can view my preferences when my wife's show is on commercial. I checked the remotes of other TV's, (Sony, Toshiba) and they did not have a one button PIP toggle button either. Other than that it's a great TV with a great picture. Glad I traded in my HSN Digital Lifestyles set. I left three messages with customer service and I still haven't heard from them.
