Pro?s and cons of plasma vs. LCD and 1080p vs. 720p,
by bnotariano on June 12, 2009
Pros: A picture I would match with any other set on the market and for a steal of a price, compaired to the LCD line.
Cons: I've only had it a few days and so far no cons yet.

Summary: After extensive research over the pro?s and cons of plasma vs. LCD and 1080p vs. 720p sets, personally to me it is still a toss up, especially on the 42 in. screens or smaller. So it was a no brainier, considering the dollar difference being the only unbalanced factor. After a few side by side comparisons with the Panasonic, which was a consideration, I went with the Samsung PN42B450. I feel that the Samsung has a better picture as far a true color is concerned and it also offered a few more bell and whistles. I?ve only had it for a few days now and I?m still amazed with the wonderful picture. So far I feel that I?ve made the right choice.

Love. It. WOW.

Pros: The picture quality is outstanding. (What else would you buy an HDTV for if not a great picture?)
Cons: Nothing yet. Some have complained about the glare... yes, it's there. But give some thought to where you're putting the TV before you buy it. My living room has fairly low-level lighting, so this glare is not a problem for me at all.
Summary: I literally spent hours comparing this TV to:

Time and time again, I came back to this TV as the best choice. The price was unbeatable ($649 on sale at Sears). The difference in this TV and any of the 1080p's was not worth an extra $250+. And I didn't care for the LCD picture at all, unless you upgrade to both 1080p and at least 120hz... by that time, you're spending $1200 on up. Probably the best picture I saw of all of them was the new Samsung LED.... incredible picture, but a price tag of about $1600 for 40".
This TV is easy to hook up. Turn it on, and it looks awesome right out of the box without any tweaking necessary.
Bottom line: GREAT TV, GREAT PRICE. I couldn't be happier, and would probably be bummed had I spent the extra $250 just to get 1080p.

great picture. better picture than my 52" W-series Sony
by Soundman63 on May 23, 2009
Pros: Easy set-up, great picture, great price($699.99), Beautiful frame
Cons: No variable audio out, can't add Digital channels manually you always have to scan, so if you point your antenna two directions it won't have all the channels available at the same time. Speakers sound tinny.
Summary: I am really impressed with this telivision. Samsung has improved their quality since the mid 80's when I sold their products. I was so pleased with mine that when ...

Summary: Please do not let my "cons" comment steer you away from this TV. I am absolutely thrilled with it. The picture quality is tremendous, and I tend to mess with settings a little too much for a couple of months until I get one setting that I really like. I think I'm at the end of my two-month settings mission. Now that I'm there, I'm even more thrilled with the picture.
I am a game watcher. I love watching football, baseball, and basketball on my TVs, and this TV is wonderful for that. There is no motion blur at all, as is the case with most plasmas. Colors are bright and vibrant, and the black levels are terrific. There are a slew of settings that you can use to adjust those as well.
The sound from the TV is what you expect from the TV itself - kind of average. You certainly can't base your decision on the sound of any TV.
It is a standard looking, black glossy TV, and it fits any room.
It has a QAM tuner on board, and this TV does a great job with off-air signals as well. The display puts a lot of information about the current program and shows what's coming on after the current program.
I looked at this TV vs. the comparably priced LG 42PQ30 and the Panasonic TC-P42X1, and I'm happy that I went with the Samsung. I thought the LG was an outstanding picture as well, but it didn't have as many settings as the Samsung did. Plus, I have several friends that own Samsungs, and any of them that have dealt with Samsung customer service have been more than happy. I have not read as good of things about LG's service. I also thought this Samsung's picture was much brighter and vibrant than the Panasonic TC-P42X1. I spent a couple of hours tweaking settings in the store of these three TVs side-by-side, and I'm more than happy with this choice.
All three TVs are 720p, but considering that there are virtually no 1080p broadcasts out there, this was not a big loss. I have a 1080p LCD, and for regular satellite TV, there is no difference in picture quality between my 1080p and this 720p Samsung. Also, this TV will accept 1080p signals (i.e. 1080p PPV from satellite or Blu-ray) and it will convert them into 1080i or 720p, and it still looks amazing.
FYI, if you're in Georgia or Florida, I got this TV from Brandsmart for $499 + tax.

Summary: This TV with a 3 year warranty and taxes was only $730. I compared picture quality of this screen with more costly plasmas and LCDs. I could not see any difference between 720p and 1080p on other plasmas. And since I don't intend spending more on a Blu-Ray player or DVDs, 720p is the right choice. It was easy to set up at home. Sound goes through my 5.1 surround system. The set has 3 HDMI connections. So far I only need 2.
