Panasonic's got it tough this year
by need4speed77 on April 4, 2011
Pros: Bluetooth 3d glasses, slimmer bezel, wider screen, lighter weight, thinner, power efficient, minimal heat output, virtually no ghosting, 2d to 3d processor, enterprisingly good sound for flat panel, advanced picture menu
Cons: took replacing 2 units to get one without a bad panel (must have been a bad batch from best buy)
Summary: I originally purchased the 50c680 about 3 weeks before the release of this one. I enjoyed that TV significantly but hearing that this guy was thinner and lighter, and new, ...
Summary: I originally purchased the 50c680 about 3 weeks before the release of this one. I enjoyed that TV significantly but hearing that this guy was thinner and lighter, and new, i had to switch. I am pleased to say my upgrade was worth it. I had a hard time deciding between the pany 50st30 and this one. Ive had good experienced with Samsung and never owned a Panasonic so that is why i gave the Samsung a shot. Though the t30 is nice, it wasn't worth the price difference, especially with the 3d kits available for both. A big difference is the minimal ghosting, i love that! The lighter weight and bigger screen is nice too, but i would say my favorite is the Bluetooth 3d or the virtually no heat produced. I can run this thing for hours and it produces hardly any heat compared to the 680. Overall Samsung did a great job and really showed A LOT of improvements from the earlier model, which Panasonic didn't do much (granted the g20 was a good tv, now they have 3d... on the t30, thats about it). Lastly the way the TV looks powered off is so much sleeker and nicer than any other, especially the industrial/professional look of the Panasonic. I am very pleased with this set, way to go Samsung.

WHATEVER YOU DO, BUY SAMSUNG 51 CLASS
by mfhardy on May 10, 2011
Pros: Simple clean design, extreme 1080HD quality, fast refresh, bright colors, easy set up, smart functions, 3D
Cons: 3D glasses are are sold separately and are overpriced, This TV requires a Samsung wireless adapter for internet apps which sold sep and the glare is probably the worst part of the set. Make sure your set location is strategic to reduce the glare.

Summary: BOTTOM LINE - If I like something enough to write a cnet review, you need go purchase a Samsung TV "NOW". Trust me, I have never been completely satisfied with a product as much as the Samsung PN51D550 51' Plasma. Unbelievable 1080HD bright color quality. I shopped for several months my other choices were VIZIO & SONY. Found the quality to be much better than both. Its hard to tell in a store because they rotate for the consumers a hi-def or blue-ray dvd, in the stores which is not realistic to your local cable provider. So what I did is facebooked my friends to find out what models they had and made trips to see all the TV functions, PlayStation, cable, Roku, apple tv, blue ray, int streaming. ect. Sony had similar quality but was priced $300 to $400 more for 51-55 class. Instead of buying the wireless adapter from samsung I chose to by Roku so that I can stream as far as the 3-D glasses, I will wait until they come out with something more affordable.

Great TV excellent picture
by gopads313 on April 4, 2011
Pros: Great 2D and 3D picture. 3D this year is easier to watch on the Samsung Glasses than last years 3D glasses, seems like less eye strain.
Cons: None so far

Summary: I got a PN50C680 from Bbuy in late February and much to my dismay Samsung changed the technology on the 3D glasses. So I begrudgingly returned my TV and 3D glasses and it turned out to be the best thing. The new 3D glasses seems to give less eyestrain than last years model. Also the picture in 2D and 3D appear to be better. Glasses are way too expensive but if you look at the right places you can find deals like Frys. The bluetooth syncing of the glasses is awesome and the 3D looks great. A very happy customer.

Summary: we were shopping for tv for newly remodeled basement,we were getting ready to check out when we walked past the 3d tvs, my wife put the glasses on and that was it.we looked at them all and picked this one. when we got it all mounted and hooked up we were very happy about the picture on regular tv.and were amazed at the picture on 3d .we had just purchased a 47 inch lcd tv last year and loved the picture....but it does not even compare to this one.

beautiful picture but a major flaw, random bright flash
by mycountrylvn on August 25, 2011
Pros: A handsome, easy to set up tv, with great picture.
Cons: There are random bright flashes on the tv. It happens with both dvd and satelite inputs. There are quite a few posts in various discussion boards about the problem. If Samsung can not fix this, the tv is going back, despite its many good features.
Summary: Love the picture, love the price, love the look. Hate those darn irritating random bright flashes !! If it can not be fixed, the tv is going back.

Samsung out did themselves. Best TV in its class.
by outer_haven on February 24, 2012
Pros: Amazing Picture Quality with excellent picture performance. Best Bang for your buck.
You will not be disappointed!
2D -> 3D functions unbelievable. No ghosting. Great to watch any source in 3DCons: A little picture static on movie setting but Samsung replaced the board with no hassle.
A small amount of light popping after about 1 hour to 2 hours of use only on DVD's and Digital sources. Not a problem with PS3 games and Blu Rays.Summary: All around the best TV I have purchased. Toshiba wanted $100 less for a 50" plasma tv and it just didn't have as many features and technical specs as ...
Summary: All around the best TV I have purchased. Toshiba wanted $100 less for a 50" plasma tv and it just didn't have as many features and technical specs as Samsungs. Plus on the samsung models you can turn off the light motion controller so it doesn't constantly change its brightness depending on the movement on the screening or light in the room. SO annoying and thank you Samsung for adding a turn off feature for that.
After having a small problem with my tv, Samsung had a technician to my house and a new board replaced within a week, even with having to order the part.
I am a HUGE Apple user and admirer, and I have had more problems with Apple fixing my $3000 Mac then Samsung had replacing the main board on a $1000 tv.
+10 points to Samsung for having their **** together!!!! -

by Andrew_Killian on September 1, 2011

+ Blacks are deep and rich, Colors are rich and life-like
+ Settings are very, very customizable
+ Audio is surprisingly excellent. Very clear and loud
+ No buzzing
+ 3D is also greatCons: - No ARC channel, Audio Return Channel, and you must step to the 8000 for that feature.

Summary: I picked up the Samsung 51" D550 from Sears on the 12th. I'd only discovered the TV online a couple hours before buying it. Always wanted a Samsung and once I saw it in the store, I was sold. Had to have it.
Edit Update, for cheap price I suggest check at -> www.amazon .com/dp/B004MN8HYW/?tag=***************
Received a pair [2] of Samsung's new 3100 3D glasses. [Will write a separate review for those.] Beware, this TV is HUGE. I swear, it didn't look this big in the store.
Picture Quality is outstanding. Break-in isn't necessary. I ran slides for a day before using the TV regularly. No IR at all. Blacks are deep and rich, Colors are rich and life-like. I haven't had it professionally calibrated, just using settings I've found on the AVS forum and tweaking them to my likes.
Settings are very, very customizable. SD programs are good. Soft at times but very watchable. Of course, HD/Blu-Ray/DVD content is out of this world. Audio is surprisingly excellent. Very clear and loud. I rarely go up above 11.
Also no buzzing. I heard a slight noise when I set the picture settings to Dynamic but it isn't an issue since I won't be using. [That setting is too bright and saturated for my tastes.]
3D is also great. I don't really have much experience in this area since this is my first 3D TV. There was no ghosting, trailing, or halo-effect. Same for the 2D to 3D conversion. I watched Avatar converted and the actual Tron: Legacy 3D blu-ray and both films look great.
For anyone who loves the "Soap Opera" effect, Cinema Smooth works great. I love the effect so I've left it on.
Overall, it's a great TV. Very happy with the purchase it. Great plasma. Lush colors, Deep Blacks, 3D, and great SD/HD quality.
*** P.S. If you will buy this TV I suggest you have compare prices before you decide at: www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004MN8HYW?ie=UTF8&ref_=dp_olp_new_map&condition=new#?ie=UTF8&tag=***************&********=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
