The good: Excellent black-level performance; accurate color overall; properly handles 1080p/24 sources; excellent bright-room image for a plasma; numerous picture controls and tweaks; sleek styling with inch-deep panel; superb streaming and widget content via well-integrated Apps platform; very good 3D picture quality.
The bad: Less energy-efficient than LCD models; duplication of Apps and widgets can be confusing; 1080p/24 mode causes loss in black level performance; optional dejudder processing introduces artifacts; does not include 3D glasses; terrible remote.
The bottom line: Samsung's PNC8000 series plasma TV produces one of the highest-quality pictures we've tested this year in both 2D and 3D modes, yet costs less than its direct competition.

The user interface is as easy as Pie! and who doesnt love pie! lol. All i can say about the 3D on this and Im sure that samsung doesnt want me to say this. WHY BOTHER GETTING ANY OTHER 3D TV? ITS INSANE! WAY better than the LED's and they COST ALOT MORE! *** is that about! lol. If you are considering a 3D TV MAKE IT THIS ONE! You will NOT be disapointed. trust me. Out of the Box color was SUPER impressive! WOW just WOW.
No Ghosting at all.600hz there is none .And the Dejuder option works like a charm. And as far as the 240hz are compared to the 600hz. I was gonna get the Tv u just staed. UNTILL this became available.then that idea went south w/ the Dodo's.lol.And I am siting at a distance of 12 ft. Just watched Avatar. INCREDIBLE!!! The Clarity and the depth of feild in the Set is nothing short of breath takeing! If you look at the Specs of this Compaed to the $6000 one, there is basicly NONE. I look at it this way, the TV is JUST INCREDIBLE.. Updated on May 20, 2010Hey no problem. let me alos tell you that the 3D up conversion from reg. Blu Rays to 3D is VERY sweet. I wante to see how Avatar looked in 3D ,so enabled it =in the TV and let me tell you it was almost as good as it was inthe theater.lol. I was Lke WOW. REALY? lol. i put it in my PS3 to play not my 3D DVD player also. so.. MAN this TV again is nothing short of AMAZING! Oh and I do have the 58in version.LOL ;)2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Overall, the Samsung PN58C8000 is an excellent TV with superb picture quality, great extra features with minor issues. If you are looking for great picture quality, a slim look at a decent price, this TV fits the bill.
Cons: TV runs extremely hot which is normal with Plasmas but the Samsung PN58C8000 seems to be much hotter. The remote control is sleek but is not an universal remote. The TV packaging is minimal which makes it prone to get damaged during shipping.

Summary: My old Sony Trinitron FINALLY died and I was SOOOOOOO happy to replace it. My wife thought I was just trying to find an excuse to buy a new Flatscreen TV. LOL I was happy to upgrade and couldn't wait to buy a new HDTV. So I set my sights on a flat screen TV with excellent picture quality, feature rich and internet capable. I'm a big movie watcher so picture quality was of the utmost importance. LCDs are the hot TVs now with a lot of additional features and I really wanted to get into streaming internet video to my TV. So that's where I focused my search and that's where the future seemed to be going.
In my research, I found that LEDs were closing the gap for LCDs and Plasmas. So when I was making my selection I had the following TVs on my list to choose from; Samsung UN55C690 LED, LG INFINIA 55LE8500 LED, LG INFINIA 55LE5500 LED, and as a late add the Samsung PN58C8000 Plasma. I have experience with Plasmas as I already had a Panasonic 50" and I really enjoyed the picture quality. So I had this constant internal dilemma that I LCDs were just not going to match up with the picture quality. I searched high and low for an LCD/LED HDTV and just could not find any within an affordable price range with comparable picture quality. For me that was the tie breaker, and trumped any feature an LCD could offer. Because ultimately that is what you do is watch TV so it made sense for that to be the highest priority when searching for a new HDTV.
So I took my list and started to go to stores to scout the TVs and started at Best Buy. The salesman there pointed out something when I asked "why should I get an LCD over a Plasma?." He said "look at the TVs we feature in our showroom, 95% are Plasmas because they still have superior picture quality over LCDs." So it re-enforced what I believed all along that Plasmas were the way to go. So I turned my focused to Plasmas and found the Samsung PN58C8000. This attractive thin flat-screen really caught my eye. The picture quality is stunning! I love the Dynamic Picture and Movie modes. The blacks are fantastic and it has a nice bright picture in a lot of sunlight. My wife laughs at me when I sit back in appreciation of the quality and my satisfaction in my selection. I honestly really didn't want 3D but I looked at it as an additional feature rather than an added incentive to buy it. Maybe I'll use it in the future but the side effects of watching for long periods in 3D freaks me out. The Samsung PN58C8000 has a lot of menu settings to customize the picture or the TV overall which I like. The Tools menu setting allows for quick changes to the picture and sound whether its a lot of sunlight or to enjoy the darker settings for watching movies. Out of the box, the settings are a mess so take your time getting them just right. Another great feature is the Internet TV and the Samsung Apps. With this feature, you can get quick weather/news/sports updates as well as save some money by not paying for premium cable movie channels and instead stream Netflix movies. With a decent wireless router, you can stream pretty seamlessly with little delay while watching a picture. I was impressed! However, I was disappointed that I couldn't use any wireless adapter since the Samsung adapter is expensive. I actually tried a Cisco wireless adapter but it didn't work. But once I did get the Samsung wireless adapter, it worked like a charm. It was very easy to install. I had to put on the extension it came with as it was too close to the TV and interfered with the signal. For my other HDTV that is not internet ready, I hooked up my Wii and now I'm good to go with Netflix on that one as well.
Now I may be impressed with the TV overall but it does have some drawbacks. One key that that truly concerns me is that the TV runs extremely hot. Now although this is normal with Plasmas, the Samsung PN58C8000 seems to be much hotter. I did an unofficial comparison with my other Plasma and I touched both to see and the Samsung PN58C8000 was much hotter. This hasn't caused any issues at this point so as of now I'm not too concerned about it. I've had the TV over a month now. The remote control it comes with is sleek but it's not an universal remote therefore it's useless for the long term. Lastly, the TV packaging was minimal which surprised me for a TV this thin and fragile. The first TV shipped to me was damaged with cranks throughout the picture screen. Fortunately, the company provided good service and replaced it with no problem. I was relieved I didn't have to fight like a mad man for a new one.
Overall, the Samsung PN58C8000 is an excellent TV with superb picture quality, great extra features with minor issues. If you are looking for great picture quality, a slim look at a decent price, this TV fits the bill. I'm REALLY happy with the purchase! BTW, Avatar looks AWESOME on this TV! Pros: Picture quality was fantastic when the product was received, with rich color and great black/contrast. Great while it lasted.
Cons: The 3D quality is poor, intermittent failure requiring active 3D glasses to be turned off and on to reset. Panel failed twice in 2 years.

This TV had the best in-store picture hands down. Out of the box, the TV performed quite well overall when I got in (November 2010).
However, from the start, the 3D experience was only so-so. When it worked, it worked well, and the 2D to 3D coversion that's built in is amazingly good. However, inevitably, the 3D quality gets lost, with ghosting and loss of depth. After turning the active glasses off and on, the picture improves for a while, then needs another reset. The problem is worse when more than one user is watching, and new batteries for the glasses does not fix the problem.
If you weren't very interested in 3D, this wouldn't be a big deal. However, about 1 year after I purchased the TV, I began to notice wide magenta bands across the top of the screen, especially when a dark object was in the middle against a white background.
I called Samsung and they sent a tech out to diagnose the problem. I expected to have to pay, as the TV was a couple of months out of the 12 month warranty period. However, when he diagnosed this as a panel failure, and said the replacement parts and labor were north of $1000, he recommended I call Samsung customer service to see if they would extend the warranty.
To my delight, they did offer to extend the warranty and sent out a new panel, which fixed the problem. However, 8 to 9 months later, the problem re-appeared. I contacted Samsung again. I really didn't expect them to give me another free panel, but I thought they might give me a coupon or discount on a new TV. However, the tech I reached in online chat flatly stated that my only option was to pay for a new panel, and no such discount was available.
I've had many decent Samsung TVs before, including a 61" DLP that we got as our first big screen TV in 2003, which lasted us for years, and a smaller LED TV. The PN50C8000 was our first bad experience, but the tech who visited our home said that panel failure is a common problem with Samsung plasmas, although usually 2-3 years after purchase. Given the expense of replacing this essential part, I strongly recommend against buying this model, or any Samsung plasma TV. -

Summary: I purchased this TV back in late Jan 2011, so it is only 4 months old. I have taken care of the TV to prevent burn in (or so I thought), which everyone states should not even be a consideration with these newer plasmas. Unfortunately, I can tell you this is NOT the case. I estimate I have about 400 hours on the TV. I watch some 4:3 content (about 25% of the time), but try to watch full screen HD whenever possible. A couple nights ago, I noticed lines where the outline of the 4:3 picture ends and the vertical black bars begin. I read up on this and tried displaying snow for a couple hours. This did not fix the problem. The Samsung manual also suggested I use gray bars instead of black for the borders. This information is found under the Screen Burn Protection section. Well, this model TV does not even have that option. What makes it worse is that in an entirely different section of the manual under Size, it warns about watching 4:3 content and how this can cause burn in at the edges of the 4:3 window. Of course, it also states that this is not covered under warranty. Who is going to look under Size to read about burn in when there is a specific section called Burn In Protection? They need better tech writers! Needless to say, I'm very disappointed that my nice, new TV now has these lines on the right and left sides. Tech support was pretty useless and literally read me the manual verbatim as far as fixing the issue. They also told me this is not covered under warranty, but I already knew that. I was hoping they would have some compassion. Oh, and the people that say there is no humming, they must have bad hearing. It is actually quite loud, but I figure that is the trade off for the better picture over LCD or LED. The picture quality on this blows away my 40" Samsung 120 hz LCD. The humming only becomes unnoticeable once your volume is turned up to about 18, which is 20% of the max volume. So be warned, despite all the hype that burn in is no longer an issue, I can tell you otherwise. Just don't watch ANY 4:3 content. I should have told my toddler no cartoons. Or, I should have stretched the image. But then everything would have been distorted. The TV does not auto detect the input, so unless I left it in stretched mode, I would have had to manually change the setting several times a day depending on the channel I was watching.
Note: I tried posting the exact review above on Samsung's website but it was rejected because it didn't meet their posting guidelines. I suppose they didn't like my constructive feedback. I felt compelled to post it elsewhere so I could warn others about the burn in issue. I did a lot of online research and I wish I had read about this somewhere so I would have been more careful. And no, I didn't read the manual cover to cover. I was too excited to watch my new TV. -
Absolutely brilliant Plasma

Pros: Pic quality is superb. 3d and black levels are solid. Menus are easy to navigate and apps are great.
Cons: no WIFI buildt in. 2011 model, PND8000 comes with this feature I believe.
Summary: Glad I made this purchase. Bought via AMAZON, got 2 free glasses, free Blu-ray player, all Shrek 3D movies and 24 mos of intrest free financing. Killer!!!

Pros: Works great in all lighting situations 3D is awesome. Remote control back lights. NO BUZZING! Glasses are very comfortable.
Cons: Pesently extra glasses are pricy and the newer rechargables are even more expensive.

Black levels look great and that is with the home preset selected I have not tried changing these setting yet. Since they look great on factory presets. Very glad I purchased this TV. -

Summary: Bought this on a pre-boxing day sale based on the editor and user reviews on CNET. The set had a great picture and I was very impressed with the improvement on my old 50" Samsung 720P set. Unfortunately after 8 days of use the set made a very loud pop or crack noise and there is now no picture or even menus on the screen. The power indicator on the front comes on but that is it. I searched this issue and found numerous instances on the same issue with this set so it seems to be something related to the production of the set.

I use the sound out of the home theater system, but sometimes the TV doesn't know its "on." I get sound but I have to connect the 2 to control the volume, very annoying when I have to do it every time I turn on the TV.
Occasionally when watching HD there are artifacts or a halo effect around people. I've seen this happen with football and watching NCIS while a character walks across the screen.
I've also hooked up my PC with the RGB input it works great in 1600x900 resolution and it also works great with DLNA and my home networking.
