The good: The Samsung PND7000 series has outstanding overall picture quality, with excellent black-level performance and extremely accurate color. The screen can handle bright rooms well and exhibits the nearly perfect screen uniformity of plasma. Key features include built-in Wi-Fi and a comprehensive set of picture controls, and the Smart Hub Internet portal boasts more apps and streaming services than the competition. The PND7000's design is one the most attractive of any plasma we've seen.
The bad: The relatively expensive PND7000 cannot produce full shadow detail or proper 1080p/24 cadence without sacrificing some black-level performance. Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and confusing.
The bottom line: With picture quality on par with the best TVs we've ever tested, the Samsung PND7000 plasma represents an excellent value for videophiles who don't demand to own the top of the line.

Fantastic quality, picture and hardware alike
by JeremyRoth on March 4, 2012
Pros: Easy setup, dark as night blacks, excellent picture quality, good input selection, quite passable audio.
Cons: Text entry methods change. Sometimes it's an on-screen keyboard, other times it's very frustrating telephone-style entry.

Summary: This TV is replacing an older unit. It's amazingly nice, really. The depths of the blacks is astoundingly nice, the colors are vibrant, and there are enough knobs to tune the picture to suit even the pickiest TV watcher.
Initial installation took about 15 minutes. Unbox, put on stand, plug in HDMI components and power, turn on. After setting up networking, it downloaded a software update, applied it, and rebooted the TV (who knew we'd be talking about rebooting our televisions?) at which point everything came up and everything "just worked".
Samsung's SmartTV "app store" is gimmicky and I can't see ever using it beyond the one free application worth using: Netflix. The Netflix client UI is very similar if not identical to the one on my Boxee Box. Wireless network setup on the set was painless, and it works great. The iPhone remote control application rarely ever works, but when it does it's somewhat useful - though since the input is via HDMI and not direct cable, changing channels is a bit useless. Makes for a good way to remotely shut it off, I suppose, though once you turn it off via the iPhone app...there's no way to turn it back on!
Most surprisingly is the quality of the built-in speakers. Complimenting integrated speakers probably gets me a spot on most audiophile's hit-list, but seriously - as I wait for the rest of the system to arrive, the sound provided by the television is quite adequate and fills the room. Deep bass and high fidelity they are not, but they're far from what you'd generally expect with built-ins.
I am not seeing any brightness pops, and will definitely keep an eye out for peeling. This particular unit was a recent manufacture, so perhaps the two most common issues discussed here in various reviews have been addressed. For best deal of the Samsung PN59D7000, I suggest you have to check before you decide at: Dealscheck.info/samsung-pn59d7000/
I would absolutely buy this TV again.9 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I had narrowed my choice between the Samsung and LG brands and purchased the Samsung PN59D7000 Plasma primarily based on the other reviews of Samsung. Setup and installation was a breeze. This model came with built in Wi-Fi and it immediately recognized my home wireless network. Setting up the Smart TV features was a snap (Netflix, You tube etc). So far (been about 3 weeks) I have no regrets at all about the Samsung. The picture quality is fantastic. The TV is in the family room which does get a lot of indirect sunlight (which I was led to believe was not good with Plasma) but this turned out to be a non-issue. I have no issues with glare or reflection when the TV is on.
Edit Link
Other reviews of this Samsung model talk about a "peeling issue". So far I have not experienced this issue. With school out, the TV is on nearly 8 hrs a day. I had previously read about a buzzing noise emitting from the speakers and it is noticeable in low volumes. The quality of the sound emitting from the Samsung is not very good. I disengaged the TV's speakers and route all audio thru my home theater system and I do not hear the buzz.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. Channels available on Hi Def are magnificent. The colors are very vibrant. I am not a techie and and not going into technical details. I know when I see a good picture on the TV screen and what I see everyday is fabulous.
Update:
This TV is fantastic. The Smart TV features are awesome. I discarded my 300 CD changer, digitized my entire music CD collection on to a PC and then stream into the Samsung TV and listen on the home theater sound system. No Peeling issue. Watch HD moviews via Vudu and I cant say enought about the picture quality.

Black level continues to lighten/Panel begins to peel
by vihdeeohphiuhl on August 26, 2011
Pros: There are no pros once you consider that any of the potential pros will worsen and change as the panel ages. If you want to count a deep black level and excellent color accuracy when the set is brand new as pros, I suppose you could. However, this telev
Cons: Black level continues to lighten (worsen) as the panel ages; Color saturation becomes worse and more washed out as black level lightens and panel continues to age. Panel starts to peel on the top corners and edges

Summary: This is less than a one star television when you consider the fact that almost every single D8000 and D7000 panel in 59" and 64" will begin peeling from the top corners or the top edge. Avsforum has over a thousand posts from owners of 59" and 64" D7000 and D8000's that have experienced the screen (anti-reflective/real black filter) peeling away after a relatively small amount of use. There are dozens of pictures.
I owned four defective 64" sets within about four and a half months. Three of them experienced the screen peeling problem. The other couldn't even be attached to the stand due to shoddy manufacturing.
Furthermore, the black level of Samsung's D8000 and D7000 panels continues to age as the panel ages. The black level lightens (becomes worse/becomes grayer) much quicker than even previous generation Panasonic plasma panels did. The Panasonic panels of years past did experience some black level loss, but the black level started out much deeper and darker to begin with, and lightened much slower than these D8000 and D7000 Samsung's black levels are. 2010 Panasonic plasma's black levels even stopped lightening after a certain amount of usage. Samsung's 2011 sets might only experience this black level lightening until they reach a certain age as well, but right now it is too soon to tell. We only know that the black level of 2011 Samsung plasmas lightens a lot, and lightens quickly with a very small amount of use.
This lightening of the black level causes the color saturation of these sets to become washed out quickly. I had to completely recalibrate the latest and last 64" D8000 that I had after a little more than a month of use. Colors that looked properly saturated and superbly accurate became quite washed out and less than accurate, due to the ever lightening black level.
Everything I describe, and my experiences with 2011 Samsung plasma televisions warrants a review of one star or less. I'm sorry but I just can't rate them any higher considering everything I have experienced and read about in regards to all of these issues.5 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Problem has gotten worse over time and no matter what settings I adjust or what type of content I watch (Blu ray, DIRECTV, play video games) dark scenes will sometimes brighten up and then return to normal. Some movies like Super 8 are unwatchable on this set.
I have been working with Samsung reps and techs for 3 months now and they are very dismissive over the issue saying it is not the TV but ALL the content I am watching. I don't have these issues with my other TVs or looking at the same content on the comparable Panasonic Plasma.
This is the last Samsung product I will ever buy, shame I had to learn my lesson over an expensive TV.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Brightness fluctuations kill this TV

Summary: This TV has constant brightness fluctuations, entire screen, not just blacks. Samsung replaced all my boards and my entire panel, still does it. Panasonic had same problem with this year TV and fixed with a firmware update, Samsung chooses to ignore us and hope we don't notice. Look for the thread in avs forum "DoeS your 2011 Samsung plasma have brightness pops". There are hundreds of people posting that they do and no fix has been made. Don't know hi CNET hasn't noticed. I would post a link but would most likely get deleted, easy find with search. It is annoying as can be, brings you out of what you are
watching and washes out picture.3 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I did a lot of research before I jumped on this television. I read about all the issues that many of the early purchasers of this set had. These included the screen peeling issue as well as brightness pops and buzzing from the panel. I waited until November to purchase as the complaints seemed to end with the June builds of this television.
I purchased the 64 inch version for $2050 on Amazon figuring that if there were any issues I would just return it at no cost to me. When it arrived I saw that it had an August build date (made in Mexico). I turned it on and experienced one of the most beautiful pictures I had ever seen. Not only were the colors spectacular, but the contrast was amazingly vivid and deep.
I am a professional lighting designer and color accuracy is extremely important in my profession. As much of my research consists of viewing BluRay concerts and films, the accuracy of the TV is of paramount importance.
I have been running the television for about four weeks. There is no evidence of peeling. If act, I find hat the television is emitting a very little amount of heat. This is something my wife and I discovered after auditioning the tv at Best Buy. They had a 59 inch PN7000 next to a 64 inch. There was a lot of heat emitting from the 59 inch,, but very little from the 64 inch. I have no idea if they addressed this in the larger models or later builds, but this may have been the issue with the screen peeling problem.
Just in case I ran the tv on a scrolling test pattern for 10 hours at full contrast and brightness to be sure that the screen would not peel . After ten hours the panel was still cool and no degration was apparent.
There is absolutely no buzzing coming from this television. It is virtually silent. I also found if you turn the contrast down to 95 or below you basically eliminate any brightness popping.
I highly recommend that you audition this television.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Sorry D. Katz. You can't get any better than this.
by MikeHudsonATL on August 8, 2011
Pros: Across the board, the picture quality is best available. Oustanding design and features. Rectangular stand more attractive than D8000 4 spoke design. Best value amoung the top tier plasmas.
Cons: Blacks not as deep as VT30. Not as fully featured as the D8000. Heard reports of anti-reflective coating peel.

Summary: I posted my user review of this TV under the D8000 review not expecting CNET to conduct a full review the D7000. Being similar enough, I assumed CNET would just refer this TV to their review of the D8000. I'm glad they did review separately. This reaffirms my findings when I was TV hunting (my story of how I chose the PN59D7000 is under the D8000 review). Here's a brief summary; you can read my full comments on my previous posting.
CNET states the D7000 as the best TV of 2011 so far. I agree. Hands down winner when factoring in picture quality, features, design and price.
CNET says VT30 still has better picture quality, slightly. I disagree... subjectively.
Black level winner - VT30 by a slight margin
Color presentation - D7000 by a notable margin
AR effectiveness - D7000 by a slight margin
When it comes down to it, how important is black level performance to you? If it's your make-or-break metric then you'll be happier with the VT30. Black levels are very important to me but the D7000's is darn good and rated by CNET as excellent. VT30's is awesome. I've seen HDTV's with light blacks and cruddy dark shadow detail and they make me cringe. But man, the colors, the colors of the D7000 really pop. I can't say that for the VT30.2 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Excellent Picture Quality and Exceptional Value!
by smirak on August 10, 2011
Pros: Rich, contrasty picture quality, deep blacks, great 3D, beautifully sleek design, good calibration controls, and less reflective than most plasmas, all at price that blows the comparable Panasonic models out of the water.
Cons: Picture needs a little tweaking out of the box to really shine (no THX mode), and the interface for switching video inputs could be a bit more refined.
Summary: The d7000 is, hands down, the BEST value of 2011. This is just a beautiful TV, both in terms of picture quality and aesthetics. The only other serious competition is ...
Summary: The d7000 is, hands down, the BEST value of 2011. This is just a beautiful TV, both in terms of picture quality and aesthetics. The only other serious competition is Panasonic's vt30 series, but the d7000 is MUCH cheaper for comparable image quality. I cannot hear a buzz unless I put my ear right next to the panel. The blutooth 3D glasses sync easily, they're cheaper than other brands, and cross-talk is very minimal. I have absolutely no regrets, and neither will you.
