The good: The Samsung PNE8000 series exhibited outstanding overall picture quality, characterized by exceedingly deep black levels, accurate colors, superb video processing, and very good 3D. Unlike LCDs, as a plasma TV it has superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics. Its massive feature set includes a touch-pad remote, IR blaster, two pairs of 3D glasses, motion and voice command, and the industry's most capable Smart TV platform. This Samsung is also one of the best plasma designs around.
The bad: Samsung charges too much for extra features that are largely unnecessary and poorly implemented. Its picture delivers slightly worse shadow detail and bright-room performance than some competitive plasmas, and its maximum light output is somewhat dim.
The bottom line: The expensive Samsung PNE8000 series comes through with stellar picture quality, but its main appeal is to people who crave the latest gadgetry in their plasma TV.

hate the led like flickering when going black

Summary: I have bought 3 different Samsung Plasma's in a 3 year period and I like the first two all 8000 series. This new one does something I do not like it acts like an LED when the screen goes black it turns itself off which causes flickering of the screen. A plasma does not need to do this it already has a deep enough black screen. Its very upsetting when the rest of the picture quality is fine. Acting like an LED when its a plasma TV is just poor engineering it removes the plus of having a plasma

Our first tv was faulty and second lasted 7 days.
by sharonandglenn on August 2, 2012
Pros: When the tv works the picture is excellent.
Cons: Two brand new tv's broken down in a matter of 10 days. At no stage have Samsung apologised for this and they have been very frustrating to deal with. Still waiting to hear when we can receive a replacement...
Summary: It's our 2nd Samsung tv the first was an LCD which lasted 4 years & broke down. Seriously thought they would have improved but clearly they got worse. Never ...

Great improvement from the D8000 series.
by scar50 on June 12, 2012
Pros: Outstanding overall picture. The black levels are crazy deep, deeper than the D8000. The whites are 30% brighter than last years model, and the 3D is amazing!!! Try watching Avatar 3D or Tron Legacy 3D on this thing, you'll be blown away.
Cons: Unnecessary gimmicky options like voice and gesture control. The 3D glasses that come with the TV sucks(they flicker too much)so buy the Samsung SSG-3100GB 3D glasses instead. The touch remote sucks so use the standard remote that also comes with it

Summary: Samsung fixed the two major issues that plagued the D8000 series which were the screen peeling of the thin anti-reflective film, and the most annoying, the "brightness pop" issue which was really bad. I honestly think that Samsung used the D8000 series as a Beta TV. There venturing into new ground with these new series of plasmas and as each year goes by, each new model will eliminate the previous models problems. As far as buzzing is concerned I do hear it a bit but if you have a surround sound system like I do, it will drown it out and you won't notice it. The screen burn in issue that I read from vizfx_guy is pretty strange and has to be a manufacture defect considering this plasma is equipped with "Pixel Shift" which does exactly that to prevent burn in. This option was clearly not working on vizfx_guy TV and it's a shame that Samsung wouldn't just swap it for a replacement. That's what they did with me when the brightness pop issue wasn't resolved when they replaced the screen on my 64" D8000. They gave me the 64" E8000. The only real issue with this particular model is the buzzing noise but not all of them suffers from that. You just have to hope that if you buy this TV you get the one that doesn't buzz, and buy an extended warranty! That way they can replace it with the newest model if need be.

DO NOT BUY A PLASMA TV!! ESPECIALLY FROM SAMSUNG!
by VizFX_Guy on May 25, 2012
Pros: Very Very good picture. Excellent in fact
Cons: You may NOT want to see that good picture stick around after you've changed the station. Burn in is alive and well in Plasma TV's.

Summary: I bought the Samsung Plasma 3D TV after exhaustive research. Their TV was actually hailed as the TV of the year in some circles. I've been in the TV/Film industry for 20 years and knew enough to avoid plasma TV's due to a myriad of issues. However, after reading all of the reviews, and going to the store to check out the picture quality, I was frankly very impressed. The reviews seemed to say that burn-in was no longer an issue and that the black levels and picture quality were unsurpassed. The 3D aspect of the TV was a bonus.
Cutting to the heart of the reason for this review, I'll just say that I have SEVERE burn-in after only one month of use. Turns out that the stations that I watch have "bugs" and ID "banners" up for every show and they are now ghosted into my screen. I called Samsung for some support, and guess what? Burn-in is NOT covered under their warranty. Even if it happens that quickly. I was at a loss. I explained to them that this was not acceptable, but they held fast. I told them that by omitting burn-in from their warranty, they were in fact ADMITTING that it was a problem that they expected to happen. Otherwise, they would stand behind their product. They then suggested that to avoid burn-in, I should watch different channels throughout the day. Seriously, this was their solution. My solution after spending $1800 on a TV that is now defective is to first NEVER buy another plasma TV, and second, NEVER buy another Samsung product as they refuse to stand behind their products.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great TV, if you're hard of hearing.
by hov333 on April 19, 2012
Pros: Best detail & color I've ever seen on a plasma. Clear, crisp, bright picture and great classy styling.
Cons: -Buzzes badly, not just mine, they all do. On my second set and its worse than the first one.
-Screen glare can be annoying in brighter rooms. Its pretty much a large mirror so make good use of your blinds/shades.Summary: I was so excited to buy Samsung's newest 8000 series TV. Budget was not an object, I simply wanted the best HDTV I could find. Last year's D8000 ...
Summary: I was so excited to buy Samsung's newest 8000 series TV. Budget was not an object, I simply wanted the best HDTV I could find. Last year's D8000 looked great and had awesome reviews and looked like a great buy. Knowing the 2012 models were underway, I thought to wait to have the newest tech.
After a long wait, the 2012 Samsung line finally became available and a local BB showroom had the new E8000 series on display, so I went to check it out. I was sold after seeing the picture, it really was amazing. I purchased one and brought it home, I turned it on and the buzzing grabbed my attention before the amazing picture even had a chance to come on! With the volume at normal levels you can still hear the noisy buzz. I gave it a few weeks to break in and settle, hoping the buzz may disappear, no luck. Its VERY annoying and changes pitch depending on what is displayed. I went back to the store and I was actually able to verify the same noise on the TV that was on their showroom floor! They assured me I must have gotten one from a bad batch so being an optimist I had them exchange it for another one.
My second set is actually worse than the first and I'm convinced its not a bad batch, just bad manufacturing. I had no idea such a problem even existed up until now. After Googling "Samsung plasma buzz", I was amazed at what a widespread issue this was. There are literally hundreds of angry people sharing their frustration about loud buzzing coming from various Samsung models and Samsung's lack of acknowledging it as a manufacturing defect. I own 4 other plasmas of different brands and had never heard any abnormal noise from them. Some buzzing is normal if your head is against the back of the panel, not if you're sitting 12-15 feet away!
In short, I'm heartbroken and upset such an expensive set can be so disappointing. I would expect such issues from a budget TV, not the flagship model 'from the worlds leading electronics manufacturer'. Its like buying a $75,000 car and the suspension squeaks every time you drive over a bump - its simply not acceptable for a 'top of the line' product. I wish Samsung had spent more effort on product R&D and quality parts instead of developing attention grabbing gimmicks like voice & motion control.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
