The good: Produces relatively deep black levels; mostly accurate color; very good dejudder processing; sleek styling with 1.2-inch thick panel; extensive feature set with Yahoo Widgets, network streaming, and lots of built-in content; energy-efficient.
The bad: Expensive; less uniform screen than other LCDs; poor off-angle viewing; lower contrast in dark scenes; shiny screen can cause reflections in bright rooms; benefits of 240Hz difficult to discern; scarce analog video inputs.
The bottom line: The expensive, stylish Samsung UNB8000 series has its share of picture quality drawbacks, but a firmware update helps, and the thin frames are worth serious bragging rights.

Almost Perfect
by karavasis on May 12, 2009
Pros: This tv is almost perfect but more stlye then substance. Picture quailty near perfect. 240 hz refresh rate is nice. No lame red touch of color. True wifi ability. TruSound does an ok job, but tv speakers never come close to surround sound.
Cons: Bigest problem is watching wide srceen movies. The LED side lights can't handle the black bars. Two large bright spots appear in the middle bottom black bar. It carries into the screen and affects picture quality. It is not a constant problem.
Summary: Super thin sexy tv that looks and sounds great that the average person would find no flaws with. Not for those who want to mainly watch movies. Side light LED ...
Summary: Super thin sexy tv that looks and sounds great that the average person would find no flaws with. Not for those who want to mainly watch movies. Side light LED technology cant deal with the black bars. I mainly watch HDTV and sports and the tv looks amazing. Watching blue ray on this tv is killer, but with some movies the LED annoys me and I can't help focusing on the bright spots it casts out onto the screen. It is worse in dark sceens and certain movies. It appears worse on the bottom of the screen. I really do like this tv and would buy it again, but highly caution those who plan on using it as a home theater and watching nothing but movies.

A stunning 1080p screen even as close as 2 feet
by paulchiu on July 27, 2009
Pros: Can be viewed as close as 2 to 3 feet without much if any grain.
Viewing angles is as good as any great plasma I have seen during the last year.
Very light and thin. Can practically be taken from room to room.
Can be profiled nearly perfectly.Cons: Built in audio speakers are pretty poor
No Windows or MAC drivers, so when used as computer screen, the Fonts are pretty bad and surfing looks very grainy.
A little reflection in a bright roomSummary: This is my 3 day with the unit:

It has that WOW factor with the cable and Blu-ray video performance.
No bad pixels
Super thin and simply can fit into the smallest areas.
I have it in my office and watching it within 3 feet from my chair.
The only issue is the computer adaptability.
For everything else, this is the ideal HD screen/HDTV at the moment under $3,000.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

AMAZING!!!

Summary: Okay, my wife and I have been doing our research for about a year on what TV we should save up for and after we found out what picture quality we like we found one that we loved. The Samsung LED. Right out of the box this TV looks amazingly thin. Then after placing this thin, light weight LED TV on my new TV stand (attached to the TV brace), I had to stand back and just take it all in.
I plugged in all my connections from video gaming console to an internet router. This TV was plugged into to everything WI-FI in my house. Once I turned it on this wonderful sound from the TV's set-up chimed in and the picture quality from the HD cable channel exploded from the TV screen. Wow, just rolled from my lips without even thinking of it.
Enough of the intro. This was our first big screen TV that we have ever purchase and it was worth the wait because this TV does it all and now my wife and I don't even go to the movies any more because the picture quality on my TV is so much better. Also the Wi-Fi connections are amazing. I connected 2 laptops and a desk top pc to the DLNA and streamed movies, pictures, and music to this TV with amazing visual quality. Now, the sound isn't that great but you know what, it's good enough because I have external speakers playing along with the internal speaker which gives me a fake surround sound.
There is one major problem I have with the TV and its that the PIP only allows you to use analog cable and antenna. It does not work with HDMI cables or with any other connected device. This was a real let down for me because my wife and I used the TV to multitask between PC and TV. I like to use the TV for my PC and gaming while my wife uses the other side to watch her boring shows...Sorry honey but it's true. Plus who uses an antenna with a TV like this, think about it. Other than that this TV gets the job done and then some.
The features on this TV are not to complicated and easy to figure out. I spent all day the first day I got the TV playing with all the features and widgets. I do have to say that the widgets are incredibly slow and not useful if you already have a computer connected to it but I guess if you don't you are willing to use it. I'm also sure that Samsung will make an update that will speed up the process because everyone has complained about this feature and I don't think they want to loose customers over it.
I have heard a lot of people complaining about the light that the LED emits in the screen when the screen is completely black, but those people should know that this is still an LCD TV with LED technology. Plus you barely notice the light because your screen is rarely all black. Stop complaining on the small things, this TV is works fine. The blacks are as dark as plasma and the detail is sharp as a chefs knife. It feels like I am really there whenever I watch reality TV. This is pure High-Def at its best. Blu-ray movies are amazing, regular movies pop like never before, PC looks so amazing I might never use a monitor again, streaming makes it to where I might never need a DVD player. And last, gaming is sooooo much better on this TV I can't imaging on gaming on anything else. Everything is so real. Even tho all my words say that this TV is worth it make sure that you take your time and do all your research on what kind of TV you want because some people don't like certain High-Def quality that make your movie look like a reality show. I personally like High-def to look like I'm there but you might not. Make sure before you buy you see the quality of the picture for your self. Go to a store with a DVD movie (or ask them to play a movie) and see what the picture quality looks like. Don't fall for the images that they constantly play because those aren't the images that you are looking for.
So, I hope this review helps most of you with your choice. Either way you can't go wrong with this TV. Now back to my gaming. :)1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Worst TV for the money
by Daivarie on November 17, 2009
Pros: It's size, weight and thin line.
Cons: Way over priced. Picture quality inconsistent, especially in HD. Horrible sound quality. Breaks down to often. In the shop more than the home.

Summary: I purchased the Samsung UN55B8000 series TV and within the first week it stopped working. Because it was new and within a week, the store replaced it with another new one. That one crapped out within a week. So the store recommended that I dropped down to the 7000 series as they have had less complaints, so I did just that. That one outlast the 8000 series by a week. The store gave me a forth and final one which lasted two day's. All four TV's would change channels on their own for no apparent reason. All of them had Ghost figures in the screen, especially during dark scenes after an hour or so of viewing. Needless to say, for $3000.00+ dollars the TV should was my dishes, in HD. The technology is not at all what they say it is. Every now and then it had a great picture, however that lasted for a short time. My brother and a friend have recently purchased the same TV and are they now on their second return. Get another brand or wait a few years for them to get the technology right. Samsung has recently released the 8500 series supposedly in response to the number of complaints in the 6000, 7000, 8000 series. Not sure that I trust they've fixed the issues just yet. We have now purchased LG's version of Samsung's TV and have yet to have a problem. As a longtime fan of Samsung, it saddens me that they rushed to release this TV without making sure it was worth the investment, which it CERTAINLY IS NOT.

Samsung TV Model UN46B8000XF, bought it Friday, April 29, 2010 the warranty expire April 29, 2011. This TV model starting a week ago making popping and creaking noises, when I turn on the TV for the first few minutes and when I turn the TV off the popping and creaking goes on for about a hour, I reside in a studio so this sound before going to sleep is annoying. The TV is connect to a good power suppressor. After a week of this I called Samsung customer service Friday, April 01, 2011 , customer service told me the TV in question it is out of warranty, He told me B&H store had registered the TV, and the TV warranty expired January 2011, to begin with I do not buy refurbished electronic ever, the TV was brand new and it cost me $2,300, this is not the first repair with this unit, a month after I bought this TV on 2010, they had to replace the mother board. Now customer service gave me a email snaccefax2@sea.samsung.com to email my invoice to them, proof that the TV is still under the warranty, customer service also gave a transaction number, and told me I will hear from them by Monday, April 04, 2011 . I have this bad feeling they will give me the run around for a month, the warranty will expire April 29,2011. I will keep posts on this product, until problem is solved and how many calls will take me, and how helpful and efficient Samsung customer service takes ownership of this problem.. -

Summary: I had an ex pioneer plasma technician come out to my house to inspect my set as I thought it was broken. He stated that there was nothing wrong with the tv. He said the motion blur I was experiencing was inherent to lcd tvs. Even my wife was visibly put off by the nauseating amount of motion blur.
