The good: Better black levels than other edge-lit sets; accurate color with linear grayscale; numerous picture controls and tweaks; sleek styling with inch-deep panel; superb streaming and widget content via well-integrated Apps platform; 3D compatible; 2D to 3D conversion system works better than expected.
The bad: Extremely expensive; subpar uniformity and off-angle viewing; lighter black levels than full-array local-dimming sets; black areas tinged bluer; 3D exhibited ghost images along edges (crosstalk); does not include 3D glasses; terrible remote.
The bottom line: Its 3D is still a work in progress and its 2D picture quality comes up short of the best available, but the high-end Samsung UNC8000 series still offers superb features, solid performance, and unique style.

Summary: This TV is absolutely stunning. I was actually waiting for the C9000 to come out, but that TV's price is way over the limit. I found out that this TV which is the next step down and actually has the exact same technology as the C9000 minus the touchscreen remote (which can be bought seperately) and the slim profile, not a big deal considering the TV already looks beautiful and is half the price or less then a C9000!
In all honesty, I think this TV has one of the nicest pictures I've ever seen. One example is the pin-point dimming, which has garnered a lot of criticsm and skeptisism. I have seen the production TV model live and I must tell you, I think it's better then local-dimming and I'll tell you why... Unless there is a new panel that is made to fix the local-dimming "halo affect", this is currently the only way to get outradgeous contrast levels without that problem. The pin-point dimming on this TV dramatically lowers the dark spots on the screen in certain area's without a halo affect and actually goes completely pitch black when watching movies with dark screens just like a local-dimming TV. I think this TV actually excels at the dimming part over a local-dimming TV because it creates supurb black levels without any halo affects. That's a huge deal for me. Next is the color accuracy of this panel, I think the whites and colors on this TV are probably better then I've ever seen. Sure Plasma's can sometimes have better color temperatures, but they will not pop out of the screen with ambience like this TV shows. This TV is sharp looking and beautiful and it displays wonderful 3D and High-definition like never before.
Last, but not least... this tv is LOADED with features, easily making it one of the most feature rich TV's there is on the market. It's completely wireless, has 4-hdmi conenctions, has internet applications and streaming capabilities and best yet, it does it well! I have done a lot of research and have compared this TV with it's newest competitors and this one is it. Don't just take my word for it, go see it for yourselves and you'll just see what I am talking about.

Samsung is awesome!
by cryptosporidium138 on June 15, 2010
Pros: This TV has the best picture quality i have ever seen. HD content is crisp and clear and the 3D is rad. It also has the blackest blacks I have seen outside of an OLED display.
Cons: The colour red is not well represented sometimes it looks fine, other times it leans toward being kind of pinkish. 3D effect destroys the contrast making the images look overly dark.
Summary: A fine HDTV and excellent example of 3D tech.

One of the best LCD TV I have seen
by eugenenevis on May 31, 2010
Pros: Excellent picture quality. Brightness is adequate without compromising black level. Good online streaming features. Good 3D effects.
Cons: Wireless adapter is not included. Motion Plus performance may not be optimal. Would be good to include 3D glasses.
Summary: I highly recommend this TV set especially for those who are looking for multimedia content and 3D viewing experience in a box.

Summary: Near as I could tell, the reviewer overlooked nearly every key feature of this TV with the exception of the picture and only a brief mention of the apps. Yes, it is true that 3D is the latest buzzword but here are a few more buzzwords the review overlooked: DLNA, Connectivity & Multi-Media. I would have liked to learn more about the apps and the other new developments that make this tv extremely interesting.
For example, the TV is supposedly capable of attaching to an external hard drive to its USB port for playback of movies, photos and music. Oh wait, the review doesn't cover that. ... Excuse me, I just received a text that reviewer was too busy twittering.
OK, well what about the upgrade to DLNA 1.5? Doesn't that mean you can play back content from an iphone onto the tv, or stream music from your pc? Sorry, the review doesn't cover that.... Hold on, another text coming in. . . It seems that after twittering, the reviewer was busy checking out his facebook account.
Doesn't this tv have skype? Isn't it supposed to allow you to make video phone calls? It would be great to learn more about that.... All this tech talk is making me hungry.2 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I bought this TV in January of 2011 and since March 2011 my TV has been giving me start up problems. I am writing this so that others don't just look at all the positive reviews done right after a short period of time using this TV and buy a new one. I would have given it a rave review till about March. 2 major issues - 1) Our TV had a black screen for anywhere from 90 to 180 seconds and this would happen intermittently on start up. 2) The TV has now started flickering and would blackout unprecedentedly, it will then become normal and there would be no problem for days. I even ran a test of keeping the TV on for 24 hours and could not replicate it with a pattern. This TV is just unreliable for being a top of the line product. My videos are posted on tube in the following locations. Do check them out. I was also surprised that I missed all the videos of various consumers posting videos of problems with Samsung LED TV's.
Here are mine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG1w0L0qJNI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAUnZb8jEf4
When I called Samsung they had no idea how to help but promptly sent this off to a service vendor in NJ who came by on a day when the TV was working fine and claimed he could not troubleshoot or fix (obviously). But there was no other options they were willing to try. The only way to fix would be if the tech showed up when the TV was not working when he was there.
Finally I convinced the tech to take the TV with him for a bench test. Not sure how long it's going to take to fix. All said this is not a new problem based on the number of videos with blackout and flickering posted on you tube and other review sites. Clearly Samsung is not acknowledging the issue and recalling the TV for a fix. This will be the last Samsung product I buy. -
Not plasma, but not worse... just... different.
by kessler69 on May 2, 2011
Pros: Very finely detailed images, excellent controls to refine image
Cons: If you're used to the inky blacks of a good plasma, you have to convince yourself this is really good.

Summary: Okay, first, I probably would not have purchased this set. I was really looking for another plasma, but... I was in Best Buy and they had one on the wall listed as "discontinued" and at $1299.00. I knew that was a good deal for a demo unit, but a GREAT deal if new, so I asked a young clerk to come over and said, "So, is this the last one you have in the store?" His reply, "Yes. It's on close out." Not being interested in a year-old demo unit I asked him, "if you had any new inventory in the back would he be able to sell to me at $1299.00? He said, yes, but he knew that this was their last one." So then I said, "Well, what if there was a new one in another store or the warehouse?" (which is blocks from my home). He said, "Sure, but he'd checked earlier that morning and there was nothing in stock anywhere in the city." So he checked and.... woo hoo! A dozen had just landed that afternoon in the warehouse! He looked up, really surprised, and said, "Wow! Would you pick some lottery numbers for me tonight? You just landed a smoking deal!"
Anyway... it was a great deal and all. It has a lot of great features that i haven't had an opportunity to tap into yet. I've calibrated many a display over the years (work in the Pro AV industry), so I've calibrated the set and it looks pretty awesome. The blacks are not as inky as with a plasma, but the image is much sharper to the point of realism. More so than with my Panasonic plasma. You have to adjust the LED Motion Plus, or you get this really wierd image that appears somewhat 3 dimensional but as if it were shot by a hand-held HD camcorder. I believe it's called the Soap Opera effect. Anyway, some people like it, but I think it ruins the image so I have this adjusted to use it just enough to improve processing of judder.
So, overall, its image is outstanding. When I first brought it home it tended to glow in the center whenever there was a black background and lettering or images in the middle. Since I've adjusted the set, this is no longer an issue. This is a really incredible picture, and as I have the plasma in one room and this in another, I have a hard time adjusting. Both pictures are beautiful, but... as I said earlier... different. I think I prefer the plasma over the LED, but they both have attributes and cons, so it's hard to say. At any rate, I got a smoking great deal on a 240 Hz LED that would be hard to beat. -
