Summary: I love this TV. It has a fantastic picture with really bright, vivid colors. Everyone who sees it comments on its classy look and super thin profile. I'm not sure if the LED lighting produces a better or brighter picture than standard LCDs, but I believe it's worth it simply for the thin profile and lower energy use. We used the built-in speakers for awhile until we got a sound system, and they worked plenty well and were loud enough.
Some people complain about "flash lighting" or "clouding" with these edge-lit LED TVs. I can say this hasn't been a problem for me. With standard day-to-day full color scenes you won't see the lights at all. You also won't see them on a nearly all black screen, for example movie credits or an app's splash screen, and actually get a very deep, OLED-like black, I'm guessing because the TV is detecting the dark scene and adjusting the LEDs dynamically. You might only ever see it very faintly in the corners of a widescreen movie with letterbox or on other occasional dark backgrounds, but it's not very noticeable unless you're looking for it. The backlight brightness doesn't need to be as high as it's set to out of the box and turning it down a bit definitely makes a difference. All in all it's completely fine to me and I'm glad I didn't spend several hundred more on a unit with local dimming or a full LED array.
The other important point is this TV's DLNA capabilities, as this was something that was important to me but was hard to find information about online. I wanted to use this TV to play videos from my computer to avoiding building an HTPC or buying a dedicated media streamer for the purpose. I can say that the TV does the job admirably and I have had no need to build or buy another device. The TV supports high-bitrate MKVs with AC3 and DTS audio. The only quirk is that it thinks it doesn't know the MKV container format, even though it really does. The solution to this is simple. You can either just rename MKVs to AVI, no transcoding necessary, or just enable transcoding in your DLNA server software. I use Serviio, and I bet the "transcoding" it does is really just switching the container format silently for me. I can't be certain of that, all I know is that MKVs work and the quality looks untouched on the TV.
If you don't use something that offers transcoding, the simple rename will do the trick. The TV can also handle and output 5.1 audio formats just fine. Once the video is playing, simply go to the sound settings menu and switch the SPDIF output from PCM to either DTS or Dolby Digital, then connect the TV's optical port to your receiver, and you're done. Normal fast forward and rewind don't work over DLNA, but it's not a problem - you can pause and play, use the left and right arrows to skip forward or back a certain increment (maybe 30 seconds or something), or you can use the "time search" feature to skip around anywhere in the video. In this respect, the TV's an even better MKV player than Windows Media Center would be, as it seems all that can do is skip in increments. ( If you will buy this TV I suggest you have to check for best deal before you decide at: Lowest-pricing.info/Samsung-UN46D6000 )
Overall a handsome unit with a great picture, fine speakers if you use them, and solid DLNA capabilities that should replace the need for an HTPC or dedicated media streamer.9 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: this television is decent when viewing football games but not so good when viewing movies with lots of dark scenes. the light bleed is very distracting. for the money, or a little more, i could have bought a better set. also, plasma television are getting ridiculously cheap now and don't exhibit uniformity or off angle viewing problem.

A great LED tv surpasses our Panasonic plasma.
by jeyounger on May 14, 2012
Pros: Thin design

Better than average speakers

Summary: Purchased in September 2011 and set up myself. Forgot about the source and menu buttons on the remote which caused some frustration in the setup process. Other than that we love this tv and it does give a clearer picture than our two year old Panasonic plasma. The viewing angle is not as good as the plasma and not as good for sporting events, but it is adequate. We would purchase another Samsung LED.

Absolutely Phenomenal.
by jrgee72 on February 22, 2012
Pros: Superb and spot on colour reproduction. Colours are vibrant, realistic and amazingly incredible black levels. I have a 2010 Panasonic and this TV beats that Panny for blacks. Clarity is unbelievable.
Cons: Only one con. In a completely dark room and only if watching a movie with letterbox across the top and bottom, there is light leakage so you do not get a uniform black in the four corners in the letterbox part of the screen.
Summary: This Samsung is an amazing set. This TV was nearly half the price of my 2010 Panasonic and it beats the pants off of it. No need to adjust anything ...
Summary: This Samsung is an amazing set. This TV was nearly half the price of my 2010 Panasonic and it beats the pants off of it. No need to adjust anything and it looks great right out of the box. I only turned off the motion plus feature since some warned that it makes the picture look like it has a soap opera affect or an almost too sharp look. I turned it off without really testing it and other than that the TV needed no other adjustments. If you're watching fast sports you can turn it on but I watch without it and it still looks amazing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SAMSUNG TO ANYONE. I am usually a plasma fan but this TV has converted me.
One warning about all of these new TV's from all the brands. since the TV does some processing of the video, if you feed you audio from the digital box to the TV and a separate line to a surround system, you might have the audio and video out of sync slightly with the audio coming out first before the image...because the sound system is processing the sound quicker than the TV is processing the video. I solved this by feeding the audio out of the TV directly to the sound system since. If you are watching without a sound system then is a non issues because the TV coordinates everything which is why I needed to feed it from the TV.
