Samsung UN46D6400 price range: $1,149.00

The good: The Samsung UND6400 series offers beautiful, compact styling with an ultrathin bezel and panel for a nearly all-picture look. It produces relatively deep black levels for an edge-lit LED-based LCD TV, with accurate color in bright areas, excellent video processing, and improved 3D picture quality. The Smart Hub Internet portal boasts more apps and streaming services than the competition.
The bad: This Samsung LED TV is relatively expensive. Its picture suffers from imperfect screen uniformity and blue-tinged darker areas, while its glossy screen reflects a lot of ambient light. The UND6400's Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and confusing.
The bottom line: Solid overall 2D and 3D picture quality, as well as a wealth of features and beautiful looks, mark the Samsung UND6400 as one of the better edge-lit LED-based LCD TVs we've tested.

Overall a Great T.V.
by James2Roland on January 7, 2012
Pros: + Picture quality is excellent

+ Great design in the living room
+ Settings menus are well laid out and easy to useCons: - I have noticed some flash lighting in the bottom left corner of the screen

Summary: I bought this t.v. to replace our 27" crt. I did a lot of looking before buying. I've had it a little over a week. I have not had a chance to try out the 3-D yet. It is a great "smart t.v." but with a few minor flaws.
My Samsung UN46D6400 television is connected to a Samsung BDD6700 Blu-Ray player (excellent!), Amazon Basics high-speed hdmi cable (excellent!), and an ethernet connection to the t.v. (not wireless) at 12 to 20 or so mgb.
Pros:
Design: This t.v. looks great in the living room. I was afraid it would overwhelm the room, but it doesn't. Glad I went with a 46" instead of a 40". Love the glossy screen. Reflections are not a problem and the lack of a matte finish I think enhances colors.
Sound quality: Excellent (for a t.v.). I was worried that it would sound completely awful (since the t.v. is so thin) and I can not afford an hdmi capable receiver at the moment. I'm glad I didn't let that keep me from buying the t.v. Keep in mind, though, that a few reviewers have noted a sound-sync problem when running the t.v. through an external audio unit. I have not done this yet.
Picture quality: The picture quality is excellent (but I have not tried out the 3-D yet). Blu-rays look great, dvds look great (after adjusting the automotion a bit), high-definition television looks great. Watching home photos and movies by attaching an external hard drive to the usb port is a lot of fun. Video quality from our point and shoot 720p camera looks great on this t.v.. This t.v. makes most Youtube videos look better than they look on my laptop. Picture sizing options are on the remote to maximize video quality depending on the source. The Wii looks fine on it even at full-screen. The quality of streaming movies from Netflix varies from very good to excellent, but any fault lies with Netflix, not Samsung.
Off-angle viewing: I've read some professional reviews that note "poor off-angle viewing" quality. We haven't noticed the picture degrading except at the most extreme of angles. We think the picture looks great from just about anywhere in the room.
Apps (Smart Hub): Smart Hub has a lot of potential, but it's not totally there yet. Some apps are outstanding (such as Vudu, Pandora, and Googlemaps). Other apps (such as Vimeo) definitely feel "half-baked." The Youtube app on the t.v. stinks. It automatically loads a video when you start the app. I can't figure out how to stop it from loading a random video. If you've got kids in the room random Youtube videos chosen by the app are NOT a good thing. On the other hand, the Youtube app on my Samsung bdd6700 Blu-Ray player is great. It does NOT load a random video on start-up. It just sits there nicely until I search for something or choose to play something.
Interface:
The t.v. settings menus are well laid out and easy to use. App interfaces vary, but are generally very good to excellent.
Cons:
The backlight: This is an edge-lit led t.v. and has some of the problems that come with that technology. I have noticed some flashlighting in the bottom left corner of the screen. It is not there all of the time and it is not bad enough to return the t.v. or mess up the picture. Most of the time I don't notice it at all. Also, the backlight has uniformity problems when using some Smart Hub apps such as Youtube. This uniformity problem does not seem to be there when watching Blu-rays, dvds, or cable television. In the daytime or in a room with a light on it probably wouldn't be noticed. If you like to watch Youtube videos in the dark, it will probably drive you bonkers. This problem only seems to there when using some of the apps.
Bottom line: A great smart t.v. with a ton of capabilities and a great picture for the price. Sure the "backlight uniformity with some apps problem" is a disappointment, but this t.v. does such a great job with so many different input sources that I'm willing to cut Samsung some slack for that. but before you will buy this samsung tv, I suggest you have to check for best price before you decide at: checkingprices.info/samsung-un46d6400/
Pair this t.v. with the Samsung BDD6700 Blu-Ray player. They "play well" together.

Great LED TV with a few flaws
by umojania on June 13, 2011
Pros: Design of TV makes it look high-end for less the price of D7000. Excellent image quality. Off-angle viewing is not as bad as reported. Internet-ready. 3D capable. It's not that pricey, but do your research.
Cons: The Smart Hub is cluttered. Netflix app seems to flicker streamed movies alot when viewing. No built-in wifi. TV sound is adequate but not great. Customer service (Live Chat) is less informed with newer products. I called several times after opening my TV

Summary: Overall, the TV is a great performer. I must have calibrated it a few times before deciding on a setting that responds well in daylight and night time viewing. I have noticed that the black levels vary based on the source or broadcast of a particular program. For example, when using Netflix from Smart Hub (wired), I noticed flashlighting during a dark scene or on an all black screen. However, when using the Netflix app from my LG blu-ray player (wifi), I do not have flashlighting from the same movie, and I get a higher image quality, better sound, and no flicker when streaming.
The black levels watching a HD broadcast from cable are excellent. They are deep, inky and rarely do I notice light leakage at the corners. In most cases, I will notice that in SD viewing. HD quality does vary depending on the station and cable provider, however. For example, watching sports on ABC in HD is much better than watching sports on TNT. For some reason, TNT showed alot of judder and moderate HD quality when compared.
When I bought the TV it did not come with 3D glasses. However, three weeks later, Samsung decided to sell their TVs with 3D glasses. I was able to go back to the store (Sears) and literally 2 days before my 30 day store warranty expired, Sears - a participating store - provided me with two free 3D glasses. Although, I don't have a 3D blu-ray player, I was able to view 3D content from my cable provider and I am satisfied with the quality. Will need a 3D player to really appreciate the quality, I am sure.
TV sound is not a deal breaker as I have it connected to the home stereo. However, I did notice that the volume control on the TV's remote is disabled when using the external speaker setting on the TV. Therefore, in order to control TV volume through your home stereo, you'll have to use the receiver's remote. This is very annoying as my previous Sony analog TV allowed me to adjust it's volume using the TV remote through my home stereo. And apparently, my receiver is too old to be recognized by the cable provider (Time Warner) to program the settings in its remote.
Lastly, check prices for this TV as they're going down. But make sure as well to check specs for the D6400 series TVs, as they are not all the same. BJs, Costco, PC Richards and BestBuy D64xx series are different from Sears (or online stores) D6400 series. The other models are variations for that particular store. You will notice slight contrast ratio differences.
I only wish Samsung made this model as a 51". The jump from 46" to 55" seems a little steep in size and price, if I don't want to buy a 51" plasma. Not fair...but I understand Samsung's business decision to do so.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

TV badly ruined by horrible LED backlight uniformity
by kevinponeill on May 31, 2011
Pros: industrial design, thin bezel, thin enclosure

Summary: This is my first LED LCD TV, and I now know why ALL stores demo their TVs with very brightly lit scenes: most LCDs are horrible at producing deep blacks, and LED LCDs suffer from poor backlight uniformity. I exchanged the first unit for a second because the backlight was so uneven, I certainly COULD see it in dark TV show or movie scenes. The second unit was no better. Dark scenes in I Am Legend, Underworld, and Rob Zombie's Halloween clearly reveal the bright spots, and I now have to return the second set. I haven't decided what I'll buy, but I'd MUCH rather spend far less on a regular LCD whose blacks are less deep but uniform than $1300 on an LED LCD whose blacks are super deep by so uneven they ruin all the dark scenes. What's the point?!

Great tv for the Price
by BootieSnap on September 10, 2011
Pros: Lets face it, $1200 plus a pair of 3D glasses from Best Buy. Yes, I like what i did. This tv is outstanding. I only wish I could have bought the size bigger than the 46". PS3 3D compatible games are very good. ( 3D always looks better if it can encom
Cons: Possibly the speakers, but hey if you get this you should have a surround system of 5.1 or 7.1.

Summary: This is a great tv if you want to spend $1200. I don't think there are many tv's that will compare to this at the price....no i lie, there are a few i looked at them when i was buying this and if you are considering buying, then take it from me. I bought and i only wish i could have afforded the larger size, although i know it was smarter to not buy that. I am much more satisfied with this tv than the others i looked at.
If you have a surround system and a bluray player and everything is 3D ready, go ahead and get this tv. If not, don't waist money. Get something in the 6-800 range. Although if you do use all this fun HD bluray HDMI stuff that actually is really awesome, then this will be a great addition. I went from a 720 optima projector to this and have no regrets. even though 120" to 46" was a little hard.

Summary: The screen started flickering after 7 days of use. Top right corner started bleeding white light very badly. Lines appeared along the top of the screen. Picture quality degraded overall. I have a feeling this will become a common problem. The screen gets very hot and the build quality seems poor. Samsung has a 1 yr warranty, I think that tells you how much faith they have in their products.

Horrible buzzing from the screen.
by tem1007 on October 12, 2011
Pros: Nice picture and decent sound for internal speakers, didn't get far enough into evaluating before I returned it.
Cons: From the minute I opened and set up the TV, it had a very audible buzzing coming from the screen. Was very noticeable on mute and even through the sound @ level 3-5. 3rd party technicial from the store I bought it, came out and tried to tell me it's an i
