The good: Slightly darker black levels than some edge-lit LED-based LCDs; mostly accurate color with linear grayscale in bright areas; handles 1080p/24 content well enough; numerous picture controls and tweaks; superb streaming and widget content via well-integrated Apps platform; sleek styling with inch-deep panel; energy efficient.
The bad: Relatively expensive; lighter black levels than most local dimming LED-based LCDs; subpar uniformity and off-angle viewing; inaccurate primary color of red; black areas tinged bluer; stand styling not for everyone.
The bottom line: Though its picture doesn't overcome the typical disadvantages of edge-lit LED LCDs, the excellent feature set and minimalist style of the Samsung UNC6500 series exhibit plenty of appeal.

Awesome Picture.Best Picture Quality TV ever owned!
by rakien on June 5, 2010
Pros: Not enough can be said for the unbelievable picture quality on this television, not to mention the aesthetic appearance of the television itself, A combination of incredible picture quality and a television that stands out alone as a piece of art.
Cons: Now for the downside. There are a couple of major flaw in my opinion. First, the flashlight effects that you see when watching a dark or black movie scenes and rainbow artifacts seen in scenes from the movie "Star Trek" (Blu Ray) Movie.
Summary: Likes: The two major factors that sold me on this television was the fantastic picture quality that the television projects, as well as the physical look of the television itself. ...
Summary: Likes: The two major factors that sold me on this television was the fantastic picture quality that the television projects, as well as the physical look of the television itself. Only 11/2" in width. Unbelievable ! Other features such as the internet capabilities and the amount of opinions to tweak the television to your satisfaction. And Did I mention the "Picture Quality!" Seriously, the picture at times seems as if I am watching 3D. I have owned the television for two weeks. So I could be a little over zealous in my evaluation. I own another Samsung Television (50" Rear Projector), which I've had for approximately four years and I have been content with the fine picture quality and performance. (Exception: Buzzing sound when the TV is on). So, I believe my perception of this new 55' television is pretty much on the mark.
Dislikes: Another thing to note: The internet connection is much more difficult to connect then I expected. I can't seem to get my home network router to connect with the TV. I'm still struggling with this issue, which I suspect may be a glitch in my Network Hookup itself. Again, the flashlight effects and the rainbow artifacts problems could be an issue to many people. The other issue that leaves a sour taste in my mouth is the fact that you have to purchase a WI-Fi Dongle separately to get access to the internet on your television. And guess what! the Dongle has to be Samsung made. That's another $80. Though my likes and dislikes are pretty much in balance, I find myself very satisfy with my purchase. Especially since I found the television on sale for $1998.00. It was a win-win situation for me. I hope that those of you that decide to purchase this television find the same great deal that I was able to get. Good Luck !2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great picture quality
by stix16 on August 28, 2010
Pros: Fantastic picture, easy assembly, and a world of options to .
Blue Ray and DVD almost 3d like. Shopped everywhere did alot of research.
On line pricing was fantastic along with their service, very surprised. the sleek design is equaled by none..Cons: The black factory settings need adjusting and when making the base able to swivel,it becomes a little flimsey.
Wall mounting it or tightening it not to swivel will correct that.
Wonderful comcast only offers1080i 60hz.
can't wait for fios!!!Summary: Everyone that sees it remarks on the clarity and life like look . I would suggest this model for all users.

I can't believe how good the picture is on this TV. We had a 52" Sony Bravia LCD and I thought the picture was great. My wife came home from Costco and said she wanted this TV because the of the thin design and she liked the styling better and it had a good picture. I was hesitant and didn't want to do it because our Sony was fine and I was happy with the picture. I did like the styling of the Samsung though after looking at it. The 55" is only about 1" wider than our 52" because of the smaller edge bezel so it would fit in our spot with no problem.
Got the thing hooked up and turned it on and I was blown away how good the picture looked. I mean this thing made the picture on the Sony look crappy. I couldn't believe it. My wife & I started watching a movie and I turned to her and said "Does this look like it is in 3D?" She said "Yeah, I thought the same thing too." It literally looks like you are watching 3D TV.
OK, here is where I have issues with Samsung. This TV comes with internet apps, Facebook, VuDu, Netflix and others. It has an ethernet connection but for wireless wifi you need to purchase an adapter for $80. To me, that's just stupid. Just have wireless built-in, c'mon man!
The other part of the apps is that you can't play the sound through external surround-sound system. What do I have a 7.1 surround sound system for?
Here's what I did. Instead of paying $80 for the stupid wireless adapter, we purchased a Samsung blue-ray DVD player with built-in wifi that had the same apps. Got the Samsung BDC6500 on sale for $139. So I guess you could say that I got a blue-ray player for $59. At least now all downloads will play through my 7.1 surround system. Plus the DVD player has 7.1 output. Plus a blue ray movie was unbelievable on the TV. I'm selling the Sony Bravia. -
Samsung UN55C6500 55" LED TV does not support 5.1
by jcm_machinist on November 28, 2010
Pros: the only thing good is the picture

Summary: if you connect any HD component via HDMI to the TV and use the "optical" output port for your surround receiver you will only get 2.0 sound. i had called Samsung directly and they said this TV will only output 5.1 if you use an antenna and receive DTV signal. So all those people that have a 7.1, or 5.1 surround system DO NOT BUY THIS TV. you can download the manual from Samsung website and read page 11. it will say that this TV will only output 2.0 sound. and if you hookup the HDMI to the receiver you will then get your 5.1. but you will lose your sound for internet streaming ex. Netflix, or VuDu

Samsung Quality an issue of late
by wcardam on July 3, 2010
Pros: Great picture and form factor. The internet bits are butter.

Summary: The quality seems to have dipped quite a bit with Samsung in general, once a very high quality competitor with Sony. This television only seems to display in 60hz (not sure if this is related to the feed from the cable box or not but the older samsung LCD seemed to do 120hz just fine. Also, the natural motion seems to have some very major problems- will try to tweak but OOB it's not doing the job and is very very unnatural. Come on Samsung... get back to where you used to be!
