Fantastic; but recommend only if you have lots of $$$
by asdf773 on October 6, 2010
Pros: The thickness and aesthetics; This TV is definitely generations ahead and beats the competition hands down in this department.
Cons: Remote battery is not that great..I need to charge it almost every other day (I play with it a lot). No remote keyboard interface with TV...perhaps a future firmware upgrade might fix it. Samsung Apps is a start but will still has a long way to go.
Summary: Have not tried 3D yet (glasses are on backorder) but picture quality in 2d is still excellent. This is where the law of diminishing returns kicks in....there are plenty ...
Summary: Have not tried 3D yet (glasses are on backorder) but picture quality in 2d is still excellent. This is where the law of diminishing returns kicks in....there are plenty of TVs (Samsung's own 8000 series included) that offer almost comparable (or better to some people) picture quality at 40% the price. So if picture quality is the most important thing to you shop elsewhere and you will save a bundle. May be use that savings to upgrade the home-theater.
ok after using this TV for a couple of months I am updating my review: Everything I said before still holds good...posting additional info:
The remote is absolutely fantastic (like an iphone) its a universal remote and I can control everything (AV receiver, DVD player etc) with it. But I can see the less tech-savvy users having problems with it (my girlfriend cant even turn the tv on with it...let alone change channels). Not sure if standard universal remotes will work with it. Another annoying things with the remote is the "exit" button is right below the right arrow....so if you are in the middle of a complicated setup/tuning and not careful you will land at the home screen and have to start all over again!
Samsung APPS is still a work in progress; I have not had the streaming issues that some people complained about. My connection is wired and I have a 3.5MB/sec DSL. However the content is still limited; so cant cut the cable connection yet.
Will post an update after checking out the 3D and other features.
Updated on Jan 3, 2011
Pros: Hanging the TV was easy. This TV is super light and comes with a mount that is sturdy enough to hang on a dry wall. Saved a bundle :)
Online streaming works great (had to upgrade to latest firmware); but the content on Netflix, Hulu+ etc is still limited. Amazon VOD works seamlessly. The biggest drawback is the lack of a built-in browser. (really that hard to implement?..take note Samsung)
Cons: TV looks much smaller while viewing 3D with the glasses....so if you plan on watching 3d content often buy the biggest size you can afford. Also after about 20 min I get a headache. However 3d is still a cool fun experience. I sometimes watch sports in 3D (2D to 3D Conversion) which is great!
The wireless connection requires an external usb network adapter (included) that drops wi-fi connection if idle forcing TV reboot (annoying!!!).
Updated on Jan 3, 2011Another big Con: Ghosting. (not sure if that is the correct term but will explain what I mean): when screen goes completely black, you will still see ghost of images from the last bright frame. Takes more than a second to clear out...but its livable.
This TV also has auto-dimming feature (energy saving) that adjusts brightness based on surroundings. I don't read manuals, but it freaked me out for some time as the TV would suddenly go darker. Almost shipped it back as defective. You can turn it off in settings :)
Pros: I-phone users there is an app for remote; looks/works exactly like the touch screen remote.
Another item that does not get enough attention...this TV and Remote firmware is upgradeable and super easy to do so. Hoping for more cool things to come...
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase....regrets if any is that I should have gone for the 55" . Feel cheated as I brought online and the 3D glasses came in after the 30 day return period!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

What a difference, install phase
by jimmiescott on September 6, 2011
Pros: Everything to install on wall included, Manual is good, touch screen remote
Cons: No HDMI cable, No driver for MEC or PC connection, no equipment ground

Summary: Replaced the old Viewsonic LCD, power supply went out. This was our first Samsung equipment. We have been looking at the 8000 family. The wife acceptance factor (WAF) was no problem. Unit was delivered, very big box and install by the best buy guys. Have the kids(guys) do all the work so much easier. Installation was included in the price, not extra. Install was done neatly and with no problems. I had run the CAT-6 cable and DVI to HDMI in place, also move everything out of there way before the team arrived. Hangers on the wall and unit are made to last and not cheap plastic. The team took about 1.5 hrs to install the unit on the wall. Team was interesting to watch, one to do the work, one to unwrap, and one to hmm still not sure. In all the team was ok. Team did not install the cable management track. The track will help air flow and keep cables in correct order and not overheating. The unit did not have any dings as some blogs have reported. Team did not know anything about MEC or MHS and I was expecting that training lag. Overall picture is not crisp and is the same on all channels. Need to fine tune the unit, till (WAF) is acceptable to complete the install process.
Sent an Email to the support center and received a canned response.
I did change the MEC to max out the video1080, but no Samsung driver was found or supported on their website. Left a note inquiring, what driver should be use on the MEC system? Install the CAT-6 cable and not the wireless. Found the MAC and the unit Serial number using windows7 properties drop box. Unit did show up in the windows network diagram as TV-55C9000. Noticed the unit did get hot on the wall and needs some spacers from the wall to help the venting air flow to increase MTF of unit. Still in the reading the manual phase and working the touch screen remote. As of now it is slow but steady progress on this new equipment. NO problems at this time. Installation will continue and more updates will follow as I get the MEC and MHS to connect correctly with the unit, and pass the WAF test.
Updated on Sep 15, 2011
MY MEC is an HP DEC and will have to make some more changes to see what the HDMI connection will do. The driver for the PC\MEC connection is windows P&P. My MEC has an ATI 3400 card with DVI and HDMI connector. Downloaded the new CC 10.### with new driver and it did help a lot. The picture is much more crisp and defined, and passed that WAF test.
The Windows remote controller is not able to control the LED screen, so another testing project for that. The MEC software works with no changes and that is a very big pulse for the WAF.
The controller is working very well, but loves to eat power and cannot be seen by the HP DEC unit. Will have to see if the learn program on the remote will work with the DEC, as of now we are using two remote, one to turn on the LED screen and one to use with the DEC unit. So stay tuned for more as we move to the new LED unit. -

From the future--FANTASTIC!!!
by otispit on February 15, 2011
Pros: The industrial design is world class--should be on display--museum quality really. The picture borders on the best, with only minor compromises to the finest plasma displays. From the side, the TV simply disappears in the room!!!
Cons: The viewing angle is similar to other LED/LCD's, with a somewhat narrow window of optimum viewing.
Summary: The black levels are truly rich with great contrast. Although it lacks local dimming, the reality is that black appears truly black in 99% of all scenes. I have attempted ...
Summary: The black levels are truly rich with great contrast. Although it lacks local dimming, the reality is that black appears truly black in 99% of all scenes. I have attempted to make the panel look as 'plasma-ish' as possible, and find the range of adjustment to be huge. The 2D picture has a 3D feel--you don't look at this panel as much as look through it with a great signal. What keeps me transfixed, though, is the range of color this panel seems to be able to create. The pastels are absolutely gorgeous in a way that I really don't remember ever seeing on any other display. There is a richness that approaches plasma, with the advantage of a true white that only the LCD panels seem to get right. I could not be any more thrilled with my purchase.
I'm changing my mind----this TV is BETTER than a plasma. There are so many controls to adjust, I can honestly say I have the best picture I have EVER seen anywhere in my own theater room. I am now officially over my case of Kuro-Envy. This picture is better than my friend's Kuro--better whites, better depth, better brightness, pixel pitch so tight you can never see them, and blacks that don't lose all the detail. Best money I ever spent......so far......to be continued.
I do use a universal remote most of the time though. My network seems to work fine with the TV, remote and BluRay all linking up, but its just easier to use buttons in the dark than to poke at a virtual keyboard--I don't really like doing this on my iPhone either, so I guess I'm a bit of a Luddite in this respect. To date have not worried about the 3D, but intend to explore it when more material is available to watch.

Best 3D LED TV
by jmmatta on December 2, 2010
Pros: great black contrast, image is amazing, use the samsung soundbar. avatar on bluray 3d on this looks unbelievable and outstanding.
Cons: the internet@tv remains buggy, the remote looks cool too sensitive to touch, has to be charged way too much. hdmi and other controls that are in the base. prefer to have it standing rather than hanging, just for the sheer thinness of the screen.
Summary: overall, outstanding tv, sexy and sleek, great features and the image quality is fantastic. bit pricy but you get what you pay for.
