Summary: I have owned this TV for about a week now. It's my 4th Samsung flat screen. I upgraded from a Samsung LN46A550 to the 46" version of this TV but had to return it because the picture was flickering really bad in 1080i, and to be quite honest the ultra thin frame around the screen makes the TV look smaller than my old TV. So I decided to upgrade to the 55".
Edit Link
The picture quality pretty breath taking! I already notice a huge difference from going to 60hz refresh rate to 120hz. When I watch Avitar it almost looks 3D (even though it's not the 3D version). I haven't quite had time to fully calibrate the settins so the colors are still a little washed out but the clarity is excellent especially for a 55". I'll have to admit the the 46" version of this tv's picture did look better but it was also 9" smaller with the same resolution.
The sound is a lot better than I expected. Usually the sound on flat screen tv's are pretty poor but I'm actually pretty impressed, very clear and deep.
I have noticed some "flashlight" effect on the corners of the TV screen. And I've heard that this bothers a lot of people and can be a problem. I only notice it on very dark scenes or when there are bars on the top and bottom and it's not too obvious. I've heard that if you loosen the screws around the bezel in the back that it will help this problem. But it doesn't bother me too much yet.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase especially for the price. It has to be one of the best 55" LED tvs for under $1600. There are obviously better sets out there but if you're happy with 120hz refresh and not really into the whole 3D craze then this is the tv for you.

Nice TV but flashlighting issue was extreme.
by mikaldick on May 15, 2011
Pros: Nice picture, good daytime or bright room viewing. Apps are cool. The TV itself has a great design.
Cons: Terrible flashlighting from all 4 corners. Bad off angle viewing. Motion Plus is pretty useless.

Summary: I never write reviews, but I am aways waiting for other peoples reviews, so I figured it was only fair that I start contributing. Especially since this is a new 2011 model and I am sure people are curious. This TV was replacing a 5 year old Philips Plasma. Picked up this TV a few weeks ago from Best Buy. Great picture. Good color and decent blacks for an edge lit LED. Great design also. The apps were cool, but my Blu-Ray player already has the same apps so that didn't interest me. I also have no interest in 3D, but most of the 2011 models all have it so it is what it is. The picture was crisp and as usual very bright with an edge lit LED and very easy to view in the daytime or in a brightly lit room. However, once the lights go out it's a different story. Let me preface the next few sentences by saying that I did my homework and knew that this could be a potential issue. I just wasn't expecting it to be this extreme. The lights emitted from all four corners and extended about 4 to 5 inches towards the middle of the screen. It was worse on the bottom than the top, but extremely noticeable in all corners. Watching a Blu-Ray with any type of black bars was almost impossible. It was also noticeable in any type of dark scene. Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes were unwatchable. No matter how hard I tried, my eyes were drawn to the white torches in the corners. I tried adjusting the backlight down to zero which helped but it didn't get rid of it and created a very dark picture. Oh, and before someone tries to scold me for not knowing how to properly calibrate a TV, I didn't have it on the factory setting of Vivid or any other overly bright or unrealistic setting. Not to get off topic but I find it ridiculous that these places expect people to pay more money to have their $2000 plus TV professionally calibrated. For that kind of money, the service should come with it, but I guess that would be in a perfect world. Anyway, I was keeping the back light down along with the brightness because I didn't want an overly bright/washed out look. The backlight goes up to 20 and I had it at 10 before dropping it to zero. On a side note my wife didn't notice it at all until I pointed it out to her so maybe some people won't notice or they may not even care. If I am spending almost $2000 on a TV, I expect it to not have flaws like that. The viewing angle was pretty bad also, but I expected that from an edge lit LED so I don't count that against them. 5 inches of flash-lighting coming from the corners, that's a big strike. Called Samsung and they said to wait 3 or 4 weeks and the problem should "correct itself". Sure. Wait another few weeks until my return period runs out and I am stuck with it. I wasn't taking the chance on it going away because I've never heard of that going away and who knows if they would have even attempted to fix it. I am not trashing Samsung's customer service because I didn't have a chance to really work with them, but it seems to me that telling someone to wait 3 or 4 weeks to see if an issue goes away is not the best advice. I have read other reviews about this TV and other edge lit LED's so I know it can be a crap shoot. Some people get what I got, while others get a perfect panel and some other people get even worse ones. I didn't want to get into the hassle of returning sets until I got a good one so I will go with my original gut feeling and that was to get a Plasma. They both have their advantages, but as a current Plasma owner, I believe it is the superior technology. Just an opinion though. I just wanted to get this information about my experience with this TV out there since so many other people have been kind enough to put their reviews out there for me so I could make an educated decision over the last few years. Thank you for that.

Pretty good TV for the money!!!

Summary: My old Sony Trinitron died, so it was time to join the 21st Century!!! I bought this at Sears, and have been really happy with it. I have noticed the "flashlighting" issue, but it is so minor, that I don't even think about it. My only real gripe about the TV is the instruction manual could be better, and the Netflix streaming picture quality is horrible, but I think that is more because of my slow internet connection. I live on a gravel road, and my house is always pretty dusty, including the TV. To look at it right now, I really need to clean it, but once I turn it on, you can't even see the dust!!! I really like the TV.

Great picture.... when it works....
by Gerklette on July 18, 2011
Pros: Great picture, easy menus, easy to set up (I had lots of practice!)
Cons: Quality control of parts, some options not in the menu you would think it be in. Game mode is on the wrong menu, should be with the other display choices, not off in general settings. Would like to be able to manually adjust more of the picture settings,

Summary: Father's Day gift:) Wife brings home this tv with a wireless dongle and Blue-Ray player all for $1550 from a guy called Sam who has a Club named after him. Now begins the saga:
TV#1 - UN55D6000 - On the HD channels the sound would be half a second off from the picture and the picture suffered from "juddering" during scenes where anyone moved. Not just fast action movement, but somthing as simple as picking a glass up from a table. Picture was great when nothing moved. Vibrant colors, the people looked so real they were almost fake - if that makes sense. Not happy with juddering, so took it back.
TV#2 - Sharp 60' LED - Nice picture, but nowhere near as good as the Samsung. It was more expensive and the picture was only good, not great. I know it was 5' bigger, but I was dissapointed with it, so took it back, hoping the first Samsung was just a rare lemon in the bunch.....
TV#3 - UN55D6000 - A few minutes after I turn it on - Static (visual and audio) then it turns itself on and off every 30 seconds! I had to unplug it from the wall so that the TV would not turn itself on again on its own!! IT WAS POSSESSED!!!
TV#4 - UN55D6000 - Thinking I was just a loser and had back luck, I thought third time would be a charm.....NOPE! Same thing again but turned itself on and off every 2-3 minutes (so a slight improvement there). Extremely pissed off at this point. Vowed never to buy a TV from Mr. Sam or his club again.
TV#5 - UN55D6400 - From another store where people actually know what they are talking about :) Upgraded to the 3D model in hope of a better quality product and parts. Had it two weeks now and it hasn't done anything bad yet. I was starting to think I was cursed....
Overall - Great picture and that was what brought me back to the Samsung. I don't know if it was a bad batch of TVs they had or what, but I nearly said screw it and went to another brand because of all the difficulties. Samsung tech support was useless and I was not going to have a service call on a TV I had owned less that 2 hours... Also, none of the other places had heard of this model with 240Hz motion, just 120. Don't know whether that was a one time deal (Sam's didnt seem to know either) or maybe that was the problem with it in the first place?
My advice - #1 Dont buy from Sams - although they were good about taking back all the bad TVs I brought back.
#2 - If you can afford it upgrade to a better model. This is the bottom model with apparently bargain basement parts in it.
#3 - If you use a 3D TV with a PS3 and the game suports 3D, and you want to play the game in regualr 2D. Please remember to turn off the 3D in the game as well as the TV settings.
#4 - Samsung picture is good, but build quality is so-so. Kind of a crap shoot really....
Anyway, that is my two cents worth, Hope it helps you decide. -
all the TV you will ever need

Summary: I looked up all the new 2011 and well I decided to go with this even though it got some bad reviews.. In the store it looked absolutely excellent and yes if you put it side by side with a more expensive one it looks bad but I promise you it's just a sales trick... when I first opened it and powered on I realized why it got some bad reviews, I too saw some judder and other things but as the TV warmed up it actually stopped? and to top it off I changed some settings, so please don't be quick to review this it's a great TV and definitely recommend it to anyone. And if you play with it enough you can get this sounding pretty good too (most bad reviews was due to sound quality)? like said you just got to let it warm up and change some default setting to your likeness?.
PS. If you don't know much about TV setting all I can say is what not to do? don't mess with the following settings: Color, tint (g/r), black tone, dynamic contrast, gamma, expert pattern, color space, flesh tone (keep them all on default setting) And make sure the following are on or off Edge enhancement: on, motion lighting: off, LED motion: on, game mode: off Now the rest I won't say what you should set them to its all personal preference from there?.
Good luck! -
This TV has "in your face" vibrant color
by MikeD828 on April 30, 2011
Pros: Color is vibrant; 55" is plenty big for my small family room; looks sleek and I like the swivel stand; the Anynet feature really kicks up my surround sound; before I discovered this feature, my sound was not coordinated or in sync
Cons: Many. I returned this TV on the 30th day of my store's return policy and got the same model because I really liked the picture. It looked to me that the back lighting was showing through on dark scenes, especially on Blu-ray but I still got another one.
Summary: Get a plasma.

Best LED experience (UN55D6000)
by NewWestMan on April 29, 2011
Pros: When comparing with other LED TVs IMO this TV had the best image. It's so good that at times I catch myself amazed at how sharp the picture looks... only to discover I was watching a /digital/ channel (non HD).
Here in Canada when I bought the TV they gCons: The Samsung Apps could improve. For a 55'' TV I'd like to have more than one app running at the same time (Like clock, weather and mail notifications)
Summary: Don't take my work for it. Go to a store where you can see this particular model D6000 and compare it with others name brands. You'll see what ...

For the same money I could have gotten a 3D LED from another brand... but the non 3D image of this TV was way superior. If I want to sit around with glasses and have a "3D experience" I go to a theater. -

Pros: The picture quality is beatiful and everything on the screen stands out. A blind person can see this TV (thats a good thing). All of the options and aplications on the TV. From my last TV I purchased a Western Digital Media player in order to play my A
Cons: No built in WiFi. This TV does not cook and clean up. LOL
Summary: I love everything about this TV. Picture quality is excellent. This TV is everything I was looking for and more. Only thing this TV is messing is built in WiFi.
