Samsung UN55D8000 price range: $1,589.00 - $2,400.00

The good: The Samsung UND8000 series has a unique, visually stunning design that minimizes the frame around the screen for a nearly all-picture look. It produces deep black levels with accurate color, along with excellent video processing and improved 3D picture quality. The Smart Hub Internet portal boasts more apps and streaming services than the competition, along with a functional Web browser, and is easier to use thanks to the included dual-sided Bluetooth keyboard with a screen and QWERTY keyboard.
The bad: The UND8000 series is extremely expensive and exhibits poor screen uniformity with excessive brightness variation and banding. Details in shadows were obscured somewhat, and the glossy screen reflects a lot of ambient light. Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and confusing.
The bottom line: The Samsung UND8000 TV delivers best-in-class looks and features, but its picture quality--thanks to uneven screen uniformity--is ultimately not as good as that of many less expensive models.

Best 3d HDTV out there.
by PandaBear72 on June 19, 2011
Pros: Excellent design. Picture quality was far supierior to the Plasma HDTVs on the list.
Cons: Uninformed sales staff will impede your purchase trying to steer you away from this tv based on claims of the fram cracking and picture issues. None of which were visible in any of the store models on display at multiple big box stores.
Summary: Do not fall for "BB" sales staff who will try to steer you towards the Plasma TVs on the CNET list. These TVs will cost significantly more in electrical costs, ...
Summary: Do not fall for "BB" sales staff who will try to steer you towards the Plasma TVs on the CNET list. These TVs will cost significantly more in electrical costs, are 3 times heavier, and do not have the same features as the Samsung LED TV.

Summary: I was swayed by the reviews to buy this tv and once I set it up, I was almost ready to smash it though the window. I cannot believe that people are actually giving this tv good ratings. They must be Samsung employees, because anyone who is a cinephile or enjoys a good picture on their tv would admit that this is absolutely unacceptable. The uneven brightness and the banding have ruined my experience and am now waiting for the Panasonic VT30 to come in. I am also quite surprised that CNET would give a tv of this poor picture quality an excellent rating. After all when it all comes down to it, the design and features should be the least deciding factor. This TV deserves 2 stars and that is being generous. The 4 corners are bright, the middle of the screen has three dark lines running through them and it's absolutely terrible. DO NOT BUY!

Definitely A huge disappointing experience.
by techsavvy777 on March 13, 2011
Pros: Almost edge less design, price and bundle makes it seem almost too good to be true.
Cons: Led bulb dramatically exposed on top right corner a little less on left sides but visible. Hard to get clear fast action motion, even with supposed 240hz. 3d seems great as my first experience but anything other than blu-ray leaves you nauseous.
Summary: Samsung's impressive history failed me as a first time buyer. No touch screen remote, they state that model doesn't include it. The exposed led lights are treated as "...
Summary: Samsung's impressive history failed me as a first time buyer. No touch screen remote, they state that model doesn't include it. The exposed led lights are treated as "I don't know that never heard of it, can send tech but its at your risk if they find nothing wrong." The images themselves aren't as clear and beautiful as on the 46/55C8000 I saw at store. 240hz is almost a fallacy when compared to my other 60hz lcd's seems the same. Could just be my luck but I wouldn't risk a recommendation on my conscience. At least store willing to exchange I shall see another and try again.

Good 2D picture, unreliable Glasses, bad warranty servic
by heemu360 on February 6, 2012
Pros: This TV is good for 2D viewing. Color quality and sound are good. Visual appearance is better than other brand-TVs in market.
Cons: 3D glasses flickers and causes headache. I would go for passive 3D TVs where, they uses cheap theater glasses. Their warranty service is horrible. 3D glasses failed in 3 months, and warranty caused me nightmare.
Summary: I'm upset with Samsung Customer Service. So, unprofessional, you can't imagine. I bought my TV (UN55D8000) in september, and in January the 3D glasses did not power on. ...
Summary: I'm upset with Samsung Customer Service. So, unprofessional, you can't imagine. I bought my TV (UN55D8000) in september, and in January the 3D glasses did not power on. I only used those 3/4 times. I called their customer support, and they first charged me $182 on my credit ($91 each),as an assurance that it is not my fault. They say, they'll examine the glasses, and if found the fault on my part they'll take the money for repair. Since, the glasses still look like new, I gave them my credit card. They said, replacement glasses will will be shipped out with 2 business days of the receipt of the faulty glasses. But they'll not pay for shipping the faulty glasses. I asked for the shipping address, and the agent said, the address will be sent by email. I waited for 3 days, and didn't receive any email from them. I checked my Samsung account, where I registered my product, and I found the ticket number and shipping address. It was so unprofessional on their part, that they never even sent me a notification letter. And when I asked the service agent, she refused to mention the address.
Finally, I shipped the glasses and waited for 1 week after they recieved my shipment, as promised, I didn't receive any replacement even after 1 week, let alone the 2 business days. Finally, I received a letter from them, threatening me, if I do not mail them my original purchase receipt, they'll not give me any replacement and if they do not hear from me immediately, they'll send the faulty glasses back to me. Wow.... what a customer support........
I mailed them my purchase receipt. After two weeks Samsung warranty department contacted me and said, they can't repair the glasses and they don't have the same model in stock to send me replacement. So, they were offering me a replacement that are much cheaper than the original glasses. I argued against that. If they don't have the original model then they should replace it with something higher, but why lower? They said they can't do that, but they can offer me a refund. I said, the retail price for the glasses were $180 each, but they said they can't refund me the retail price, they only can refund me the factory price which is only $61. I argued about the fact that they withheld $91 for each glasses from my credit card just for repairing, now, they say the glasses cost only $61? The agent says, he can't give me any explanation on that, but they work that way....Finally I had to settle for $61 each as a refund, while the retail price was $180 each.
I had to take the losses, because I was fool enough to trust Samsung.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Let your eyes be the judge. Best picture quality PERIOD
by mkanet2 on November 1, 2011
Pros: The most dramatic contrast ratio. Blacks are as black as a high gloss grand piano finish. Most vibrant colors. Plasma TV colors look washed out and faded compared to this TV when side-by-side. A lot of people (even experts) down-play such a noticeable
Cons: The biggest con is the negatively biased reviews of this TV. There's a good reason why people spend considerably more for this TV over a panasonic plasma; especially when plasma TVs are much cheaper. The people who buy this TV base it on what they see w

If you choose not to mount your TV, the picture will float above the stylish swivel stand which can rotate to better suit your viewing angle. The Samsung LED 8000 pushes the limits of design and performance to give you a truly immersive viewing experience. In addition to the Micro Dimming software, the LED 8000's Micro Dimming Plus features built-in hardware that allows for each of the LEDs lights to be automatically adjusted independently. If you are looking for elite picture quality in an ultra slim TV, Micro Dimming Plus in the LED 8000 ensures that the image is as close as possible to what the camera saw when the video or film was made. With Samsung's Real 240 Hz with Clear Motion Rate, you can enjoy smooth motion in every frame. Samsung's Clear Motion Rate yields the most accurate image reproduction for the clearest moving images. Samsung's AllShare lets you sync up many of your DLNA-enabled digital devices so you can access music, movies and photos right on your Samsung TV screen. Samsung's Eco light sensor measures the intensity of the room's light and automatically calibrates the brightness of the image on the screen. In a sun-filled environment, the screen gets brighter and in dim surroundings, the intensity is reduced. This feature optimizes the viewing experience while also saving you a little energy.
