Samsung UN55D8000 price range: $1,589.00 - $2,400.00

The good: The Samsung UND8000 series has a unique, visually stunning design that minimizes the frame around the screen for a nearly all-picture look. It produces deep black levels with accurate color, along with excellent video processing and improved 3D picture quality. The Smart Hub Internet portal boasts more apps and streaming services than the competition, along with a functional Web browser, and is easier to use thanks to the included dual-sided Bluetooth keyboard with a screen and QWERTY keyboard.
The bad: The UND8000 series is extremely expensive and exhibits poor screen uniformity with excessive brightness variation and banding. Details in shadows were obscured somewhat, and the glossy screen reflects a lot of ambient light. Smart Hub lacks Amazon Instant, its search is next to useless, and its interface can be cluttered and confusing.
The bottom line: The Samsung UND8000 TV delivers best-in-class looks and features, but its picture quality--thanks to uneven screen uniformity--is ultimately not as good as that of many less expensive models.

Simply the Best!

Summary: I have been looking at getting a new TV for some time now, but I made sure I did my homework before purchasing. At first I was split between getting an LED TV or a Plasma. I visited my local Best Buy store and looked at the models on display. Both the plasma and the LED offer a beautiful picture, but I ultimately chose the LED. The reason for choosing the LED over the plasma came down to possible burn-in issues and image scrubbing with the plasma. I didn't want either on my mind and I knew the LED was a fantastic TV.
I suggest you have to check for best deal before you buy this TV at -> Bestdealschecking.info/un55d8000
Now on to the TV...
After connecting my TiVo and getting everything plugged in, I turned on the TV. It automatically took me through the setup process. It found my wireless and I was able to connect very easily. Updates (I think there were 14) were downloaded to the TV within 2-3 minutes. Once the setup was complete I changed the input source to my TiVo and I was just stunned by the image quality. The color was perfect and the clarity was unbelievable. I also have a 55" Sony Bravia that was only 1 model year old, and the image quality of this Samsung completely outclasses the Sony. Samsung's Clear Motion 960 is evident because there is just no blurring when people move or through regular action scenes. The image is always super crisp and the colors are vivid and bright. I was watching a 1999 episode of Law and Order, and I tell you, it never looked as good. It looked as though it was made for 1080p broadcast, and we know that back in 1999 it surely wasn't. It was like watching the show on a blu-ray disc. I was just amazed. Everything you watch on this TV seems to be up-converted. All shows, despite their age, look amazing.
The Smart Hub feature is my new favorite tool. Having Netflix and other streaming services built right into my TV, rather than using an external device is absolutely the best. Smart Hub also offers so many other nice features like games, informative apps like weather, etc. The built-in web browser is a bit clunky to navigate, but certainly an awesome feature. I was able to visit many of my popular websites and save them to favorites with ease. Using the AllShare feature is also amazing because the TV was able to find movies and music on my computer and I was able to watch and listen to them over my house's WIFI seamlessly. This does require that you install software on your computer, but it was certainly not a hassle. Allshare is available via Samsung's website for PC, but if you use a Mac like I do, just download TV Mobili and it's the same thing and works great.
3D: unreal! The TV allows you, with a push of the button on the remote, to convert anything you are watching to 3D. Let me tell you, it is really cool and brings a whole new experience to whatever it is you are watching. The two included 3D glasses charge very easily through the included USB cable using the USB ports right on the TV. The glasses also very easily pair with the TV with a simple press of a button on the glasses. I watched Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, which was on HBO at the time and I converted it to 3D and it was simply amazing. I am looking forward to watching many of my favorite movies now in 3D. I also have a PS3 connected to the TV via HDMI and 3D movies look better than 3D movies look in the theater. I can't wait to get a few more titles in 3D now.
If you have a smartphone, like most people do now, there are apps available that simulate the remote control on your phone so you can use your phone as a remote - how cool is that! I downloaded the app to my iPhone and now I have an extra remote for my TV. I also have the remote app for my TiVo as well.
**NOTE**: The remote for the TV needs to be pointed at the TV for it to work it's best. If you point it slightly off-angle it doesn't seem to send the signal to the TV. Just be sure to point it at the TV and you'll be fine. The TiVo remote doesn't need line-of-sight to work, but apparently this one does, just be aware of it.
To sum up my review, if you are considering this TV along with a plasma or another brand of TV, don't even hesitate to get this TV(I suggest for best deal at "www.*********.info/Samsung-UN55D8000"). It is simply the best and blows away the quality (or lack there of) of other brands. I compared this TV with Panasonic's, Sony's, Sharps, etc. and these others just can't compare. This TV is slim, sleek and has tons of features. I look forward to many countless hours of TV viewing for years to come. Thank Samsung - job well done!

Scary out of the box, calibration is key!
by Brumfiss247 on June 8, 2011
Pros: Excellent, sharp picture quality; true blacks (not blue or green tinged); immersive "window-like" 3-d viewing experience (especially with ultra-flat wall mount); decent 480i to 1080p upconverting.
Cons: Requires a lot of tinkering before the picture is perfect. High input lag for gamers while not in game mode (>50ms), <20ms with game mode turned on.
Summary: I almost didn't buy this TV because of all the negative reviews about banding, flashlighting, etc. I noticed when I took the TV out of the box that there ...
Summary: I almost didn't buy this TV because of all the negative reviews about banding, flashlighting, etc. I noticed when I took the TV out of the box that there was a bright streak emanating from the upper right corner (the dreaded "flashlighting"). I was obviously very disappointed.
However, before I immediately took the TV back to the store, I entered the calibration menu and started playing with the settings to see if I could reduce or eliminate the problem.
The key seemed to be increasing the "color space" settings as well as the black tone and dynamic contrast. At first I turned the black tone to "darker", dynamic contrast to "medium" and color space settings (default 50) to 100 (I left anything at 0 alone).
Lo and behold, the bright spot was gone, and I noticed instantly how crisp the colors were. I have since turned the color space settings down to 75, dynamic contrast to "low" and black tone to "dark" with no noticeable return of the flashlighting. I also have the backlight at 11 with the above settings and have seen none of the "crushing blacks" that can deaden your contrast during very dark scenes. However, if I return the settings to factory default, the flashlighting returns.
I tinkered with the settings for about 3 hours total and am very happy with this TV. as is my family. I consider myself a very picky person but I can certainly recommend this TV if you're willing to do some work at the beginning.6 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best tv out!

Pros: Spectacular picture quality with built in wifi and full internet browser. The bezel-less border is awesome.
Cons: A bit over saturated. I would recommend a calibration if you are looking for the best quality. But if you are purchasing this tv, you obviously are.

Summary: I purchased this tv a few weeks ago. The picture on this is the best I have ever seen. You will not find a tv that will produce more clarity and vibrance in colors. If you are somewhat smart and no how to turn the motion blur on and use a high def source then you will not be disappointed like the incompetent person above. You will not regret purchasing this tv.

Summary: I bought a samsung UN55C7000 LED Tv in January 2011. A week later i noticed extreme amounts of light showing through all sides of the screen and even more thru the corners. It made it very hard to watch anything that had a dark scene and especially hard to watch anything in letter box. After they replaced the panel the problem was much worse. They replaced the panel yet again with the same problem showing.
After about 4 months of arguing with Samsung customer service they exchanged it for a UN55D7900 LED tv (the same tv as the UN55D8000 just not a clear bezle). Everything was amazing, that was until i watched a nature show where they did a lot of panning camera work, there i noticed that there were verticle lines that were 2 inches in width every 3 inches that tinted the colors. After seeing that in that show i noticed them on every show (including Bluray movies). I called tech support again and they replaced the panel on that one. While the technician was here he noticed large blotches of white light throughout the screen, He submitted a report and replaced my panel again. Then we both noticed the lines again PLUS the white blotches.
After yet another report submitted he came back with another panel. This time after he replaced the panel there are only two lines in the tv. We tuned the tv to an all black screen. The all balck screen is only black in the middle the rest is an off blue. "True black" my ***. So i called the CRE department of Samsung and demended my money back. They said NO we will only exchange your tv and thats only if they approve it. I call them every day and its now been a 8 days and they still haven't reviewed my claim.
Good thing in Canada there is a Product Liability act. I will probably follow though with sueing them since i've already contacted a lawyer and they said its an easy case, especially since i've been thought 7 tvs (panel replacements) and i have all the reports from the technician.
I will never again buy a Samsung product every again.

Compared to others in class WOW
by sfensler on October 12, 2011
Pros: Vivid clear picture in 2D or 3D. #d Is comfortable even for many hours. Changing a 2D HD movie to 3D makes it like a new movie. Even SD video looks very good. Watching Baseball and Football has been excellent. Color rendition is out of sight.
I've seenCons: The remote is a little cumbersome and a little complicated.

Pretty Cool TV
by E Hunt on May 31, 2011
Pros: This is a slick looking tv. It works very well in my bright family room. The picture is extremely vivid and makes you feel like you're watching 3d images when you're not. It's light...my plasma was HEAVY! I've been told the 3-d is "cool".
Cons: It was set way too bright so we adjusted that and it's better now. Samsung advertised the free qwerty and glasses as included...BB salesman said they were both in the box. Neither were included and I had to either submit via internet or mail to get them
Summary: I tried to post this review on Samsung's site, but they wouldn't post it.I am by no means an expert with 3d tvs...this is my first. ...
Summary: I tried to post this review on Samsung's site, but they wouldn't post it.I am by no means an expert with 3d tvs...this is my first. I picked this tv primarily due to the vivid screen picture that seems like you're watching 3d (or a soap) all the time and the fact that LEDs are supposed to be good in bright rooms. This replaced a plasma which was unviewable when the sun rises in the morning. This one works very well in the room and is slick. I won't be able to enjoy the 3d (due to no depth perception) so I got it for the 2d picture.Although the reviews for this one weren't as good as the 7000, I picked this one due to the qwerty keyboard and free glasses. Not sure how much I'll use the qwerty (or main) remote as I'm using a new RF one...which I LOVE. Overall, while the picture is not perfect (due to overbrightness, I like this tv and look forward to watching HD with it.

The Samsung LED 8000 pushes the limits of design and performance to give you a truly immersive viewing experience. In addition to the Micro Dimming software, the LED 8000's Micro Dimming Plus features built-in hardware that allows for each of the LEDs lights to be automatically adjusted independently. If you are looking for elite picture quality in an ultra slim TV, Micro Dimming Plus in the LED 8000 ensures that the image is as close as possible to what the camera saw when the video or film was made.
