The good: The beautifully thin Samsung UNES8000 LED TV seems to have come from a year or two in the future. Its massive feature set includes a touch-pad remote, IR blaster, four pairs of 3D glasses, motion and voice command, and the industry's most capable Smart TV platform. Its picture quality boasts superb color accuracy along with industry-leading video processing and 3D performance.
The bad: Lighter black levels and imperfect screen uniformity hamper its picture significantly, especially for such an expensive TV. Samsung charges too much for extra features that are largely unnecessary and poorly implemented.
The bottom line: Although it hits plenty of high points, the Samsung UNES8000 LED TV cannot ultimately justify its high price.

This tv has the clearest picture I have ever seen.
by etchedvinyl on April 18, 2012
Pros: Gorgeous 55" display. Fast response time for apps and web browser. 3D works well. Input source management works well.
Cons: The gesture control is useless. Accidental voice command initiation.
Summary: Overall if you are looking for a great display for watching tv Samsung has hit the mark. If you are looking for xbox kinect like gesture control, don't bother. ...

Best and Brightest picture I've seen to date
by cmdel07 on July 26, 2012
Pros: Most accurate colors available in an LED
Video processing is excellent for an LCD/LED
Best 3D processing I've seen
Alot of bells and whistlesCons: Screen uniformity, but not noticeable with the programming I watch, mostly well lite live sports and documentaries. If you're a big movie fan you might notice it more.

Summary: I've waited 3 years to jump into the 3D game and I'm happy with my choice. This TV delivers the best balance of performance and features of any I've seen. The new Sony is close, but has less accurate colors, so I put it a grade under the Samsung. To me color accuracy and video processing are the most important features in a TV. This TV will not disappoint, unless you are a big movie fan that is anal about black levels and screen uniformity.
I was a little disappointed with the black uniformity, but found out in calibration that using the "Movie" setting doesn't yet work with uniformity . After I re-calibrated in the "Standard" setting the picture absolutely POPS! This LED already has excellent color accuracy and video processing, once it's calibrated it really shines. The holy grail of a high quality HDTV is to give such depth perception and contrast in such a way that a 2D HDTV program looks almost like a 3D HDTV program. In every high quality HDTV program that I've watched with this LED there is at least one scene where the pictures looks so much like a 3D picture(but it's 2D), that I have to do a double-check to make sure I'm not wearing the 3D glasses. There is no HDTV on the market that can do all things as well as this HDTV. I've owned the best monitors through the years: Pioneer, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic and Sharp. They have all lead the pack in their year of excellence and Samsung has done it for 2012.

Best picture I've seen, hands down.

Pros: Great picture
Unparalleled feature set
Upgradable hardware port

Poor out-of-the-box calibration
Still uses active 3D technology

Summary: This set comes with all the features we've learned to expect with a high end set. Samsung's SmartHub apps are the most full-featured on the market. This year's processor's makes it feel significantly more snappy than last year's model. This model in particular comes with a port for incremental hardware updates which is definitely an interesting feature. Hopefully we'll see them do some neat things with that.
Out of the box the picture is good. Not perfect. The AutoMotion plus which kicks in the set's ability to use it's 240hz is set on "standard" which gives the image the 'soap opera effect.' Personally I enjoy the look but it also causes artifacts. I find the "clear" setting to give the optimum image on this set. I also find the Eco settings annoying. This setting will automatically reduce the backlight of the set depending on the ambient sensor. Some may find this helpful but I found it annoying and the constant backlight was easier for me to pay attention to.
Like most flat screens the speakers on this set are little more than tin cans.
The 3D is ok and uses active glasses like previous models. I would like to have seen passive implementation but it's still not the big of an issue. At least 3D is still a niche feature.
The motion and voice controls work, although there are some issues. Occasionally the audio of whatever you're watching will trigger the audio controls and cause annoying bouts of needing to yell "cancel" at the screen. The motion control works yet is simply impractical. If it worked better than remote control maybe i could see a purpose to it but you simply can do more with a remote and faster. The set includes a traditional remote along with a touch remote that works great. The touch remote has a built in mic that you can activate even if you turn off voice commands on the set itself. The mic on the remote worked great and was the only practical implementation of the feature. I found it worked close to 100% of the time while using the remote. I would use it more if it was more full-featured. For example I can access SmartHub but can't just tell it to go to Netflix. Either way, the mic and camera can at least be used for Skype which is cool, yet not important enough to persuade most customers.
The black levels are fantastic and make huge leaps over previous year models. This set is the best picture LCD fans can get. There's not much more I have to say about that. If you need proof, just go into a store and look for yourself.
Samsung once again brings its fully featured menu system to this set. Dozens of individual picture adjustments make this set ripe for calibration, yet I found most settings to be optimal. Yet die-hard picture enthusiast will absolutely love the settings.
