Sharp Elite PRO-60X5FD price range: $73.58

The good: The picture of the Sharp Elite PRO-X5FD LED TV delivers deeper black levels and better contrast than any other LCD or plasma on the market. Unlike other full-array local dimming TVs, it maintains its superior picture from normal viewing angles and blooming artifacts are virtually nonexistent. Color is relatively accurate, shadow detail is excellent and video processing does everything we expect. The screen maintains black levels well under ambient light. No-nonsense styling, best-ever energy efficiency and a nearly-complete feature set, including two pairs of 3D glasses, ice the cake tastefully.
The bad: Even with its superb performance, it's impossible to call the gratuitously expensive Elite a good value. Blue/green areas are less accurate than we expect from a TV of this caliber, uniformity and off-angle aren't quite as good as plasma, and its screen creates relatively bright reflections.
The bottom line: The overpriced Sharp Elite LED-based LCD produces the second-best overall picture quality of any TV we've reviewed since 2008.

This HDTV is simply one of the best in the market.
by johnnydk on January 15, 2013
Pros: This HDTV produces the black level that exceeds the Panasonic Kuro plasma HDTV. The picture quality is just sensational with the help of local dimming technology.
Cons: Can't really think of one. If I really have to say one then I have to say that the sound quality can not be compared to the home theater quality.
Summary: This is one of the HDTV that I highly recommend you to get. Also, feel free to check out http://www.squidoo.com/best-hdtv on information on what is the ...

Excellent TV with a few minor flaws
by mindstorm360 on December 31, 2011
Pros: Blacks are just as good or better than kuro black levels
Whites and pure
Picture detail is excellent
Lots of picture tweaking controls
Local dimming
Excellent 3D (2 sets of glasses included)
Quiet (no fan noise)
Doesn't produce lots of heatCons: No discrete remote control code support
Off axis the best of any lcd I've seen, but still not close to what a plasma can do
Blue, green, and cyan colors need some adjustment OOTBSummary: One of the best HDTVs I've sever seen and hands down the best LCD when it comes to black levels and picture detail....even when compared to the Pioneer ...
Summary: One of the best HDTVs I've sever seen and hands down the best LCD when it comes to black levels and picture detail....even when compared to the Pioneer Elite Kuro plasmas. It can be pricey if you pay retail, but the 70" can be had for ~$6000 if you find the right dealer

2011 HDTV Shoot Out Calibrators Rate Plasma Superior!

Summary: Sharp Elite LED is a very good set and those paying the Elite Tax will be rewarded with arguably the finest set available; however, these Elite' have a color accuracy issue. Once Sharp releases a software glitch fix this set should be worthy of the CNET headline & accolades given by DavidK; however, the set still cost 2x larger Panasonic & Samsung Plasma's. In addition, after the 2011 "Value Electronics" HDTV Shoot Out posted on youtube, (2) of the many sets ISF calibrators D-Ice & Kevin Miller, felt the Samsung Plasma, with it's reference color accuracy, was the better TV (1-Pana, 2-Sams, 1-LG, 1-Sony, 1-Elite). The Elite LED did edge out the plasma's in black level. Maybe the next generation Elite TV's can take the trophy on all fronts. But with contrast so good on all the Shoot Out sets it makes sense to stick with plasma and use the saved money for keeping milk in the refrigerator and the kids in braces.

Summary: If you're looking for the TV set that inspires the most jaw drops, then this is it. Movies come to life a little more and the picture pops like no other I've seen! It really is outstanding.
That said, you sort of expect perfection from a TV set so expensive, and this set falls a tad short. The biggest issue is that backgrounds can flicker under the wrong settings and circumstances (as if a flickering candle lit one area of the screen) and you can notice slight banding every once in awhile.
The good news is that tweaking settings can alleviate the flickering problem to the point where it's no longer distracting, but you should set your expectations that this is the best set around, but is nevertheless imperfect.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

The king is dead. Long live the king.
by KUROchucky on December 9, 2011
Pros: better than kuro black levels
better than kuro sharpness
better than kuro clarityCons: price (although you can always negotiate around this problem)

Summary: As a long-time Kuro owner (151), happy to have finally found a set that not only meets but beats the PQ of my old kuro at a larger size. I've sat in a room with both sets side by side. The new elite walks away from the kuro pretty quickly. The new elite has better black levels, clarity, and sharpness. The kuro looks muddled in comparison.

Simply the best!
by DYAUSWINTERS on October 28, 2011
Pros: Everything, from inky blacks to ultra clear and jaw dropping picture!
Cons: A color issue which WILL be fixed via FW update very soon.
Summary: The best TV I have ever owned hands down. Although price was slightly high, I am a A/V junkie so every penny of it was well spent.

by mrcarlo on June 4, 2013
Pros: picture quality, off angle viewing
Cons: price, sound quality could be better, but after a bit of tuning the sound is on par with any competitor.
Summary: wow...if you pony up the extra bucks for this tv, you will not be disappointed

The TV by which all other TV's are judged.
by StormSarg on April 23, 2012
Pros: - VERY deep black level, darker than plasma's
- Intense Colors and the brightest whites that out do the Sony 929
- Built in WIFI
- 2 pairs of 3D glasses
- Picture quality out does even the best LED on the marketCons: The Price, but you can't have a nice TV and be cheap about it.
Summary: If you want great performance for ANYTHING even if you just watch normal tv channels, shell out the cash for this bad boy. You'll be glad you did!

Unbeatable picture!!!
by bweber85 on January 25, 2012
Pros: This TV is incredible. The black levels are out of this world and the colors are amazing. This TV has won every comparison test that I have ever seen and with good reason too.
Cons: It'll cost ya. The base doesn't swivel and is made of plastic. I know that seems like a dumb complaint, but a $5500-8000 TV should have a glass base that swivels. There is a lack of content compare to the other big name brands out today.
Summary: This TV is hands down the best TV on the market if you have the dough for it. I don't really know why CNET was saying that this TV ...
Summary: This TV is hands down the best TV on the market if you have the dough for it. I don't really know why CNET was saying that this TV would more than likely end up on a wall and the base doesn't matter, but that really is a factor to consider. I love the picture and the 3D isn't the best, but it is new tech and I know that there are a lot of bugs to work out right now. 3D is really a waste right now anyways. I love this TV and would recommend it to anyone that can afford it.
