The good: Reproduced somewhat deep black levels; accurate color in bright areas; matte screen works well in bright lighting; solid picture adjustment options; streams video via USB.
The bad: Dark areas tinged somewhat blue; benefits of 120Hz difficult to discern; some smoothing evident in 1080p/24 processing; fewer picture controls than some competitors.
The bottom line: The Sony KDL-EX500 LCD TV incorporates respectable image quality with essential features at a wallet-friendly price.

Awesome Picture, Better Value

Summary: Found this TV on sale at HH Gregg for $719. That week they were taking an extra $50 off all HDTV's 40" and above so my total came out to $670.
Very easy setup right out of the box. AWESOME picture quality especially with Blue Ray discs and X-Box360. (provided you are using HDMI connections, I bought 3 at Wal-Mart for $19 each, looks great) I bought a Sony B/R player that same day and they were great together. Yellows, blues and greens look amazing on blue ray. Picture quality on HD cable box looks great, not so much if you don't have an HD dvr or cable box. Sound quality is decent, sometimes have to turn it up loud to understand dialog but I haven't found the right settings yet.
Overall if you're looking for an inexpensive HDTV, mid-size and great brand...I would highly recommend this model. Unless you get lucky like I did at HH Gregg you probably won't find it for $670...but I've found several online sources that have it in the $700's. (retail $899) LOVE this TV!
