Intro: The Sony Bravia KDL-40S3000 is a 40-inch, liquid crystal display television.Compared to other liquid crystal display TVs on the market, it is midpriced at around $1,210.This unit is an LCD display, which is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms.

Noteworthy Features: With built-in HDTV compatibility, this unit can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition.(It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.)The 3:2 pulldown feature of this TV reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.

Weaker Features: Has only a rear connector location.

Suitability: A liquid crystal display TV, suited for home entertainment as well as work place applications.Also, a wide aspect TV such as this one is ideal for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming.

excellent value for Sony product.

No ghosting to remark on. CAN'T GO WRONG WITH SONY! LOOK NO FURTHER - BUY IT!

Summary: I have had my Sony KDL-40S3000 set up for about 3 months now and could not be happier! Amazon.com had by far the best price around considering that you get free shipping and pay no tax, and trust me I surfed every online site and retail store for over a month before making my purchase.

I was about to go plasma with Samsung, until I saw it in store and hated the reflective black display and case as well as reading several poor customer reviews. This Sony set has a sexy matte black finish and the screen is clear and reflection free in any lighting! Sony TV's in my book are across the board the best blend of top technology, proven durability and quality as well as sleek cool looks. My family has always owned Sony TV's and have never had even one of them serviced, some still running are over 20 years old!

But back to my new KDL-40S3000..... It's a sure crowd pleaser in any home! As of now, there are no HD broadcast channels in the 1080p format, only 1080i which this TV with the native resolution of 720p displays vividly, so I would advise you to think about this if you are looking at some of Sony's 1080p models that cost a lot more. Along with the fact that because the majority of broadcast channels besides HD channels (1080i) on Digital cable and I believe even Satellite are still in the 480p format, a TV such as this one with 720p resolution will display a cleaner and sharper image than that of a 1080p model. Bottom line... unless you have a Blu-Ray or HD DVD player and want a barely noticeable sharper picture, Go With 720p, you will save money and not be sacrificing anything trust me!

As for features and sound quality, you will be overwhelmed with what Sony brings to the plate. The menu options and settings are extensive but yet fun with Sony's graphical onscreen display, but the picture right of the box is just as impressive. I am a big fan of surround sound systems, but so far I am completely satisfied with the KDL-40S3000's clear and projecting sound quality, and I seriously question the poor remarks from other reviews about this set being deficient in sound. The audio/video inputs and outputs of this set are numerous and the 2 HDMI hook-ups will meet the needs of most home users considering there are also 2 component connections and various other lower quality connections.

So in closing I would recommend the Sony KDL-40S3000 to any and everyone looking to get into the flat-panel market, hands-down!!! Yes, Sony may be a bit more money than comparable sized other brands, but you are paying for top notch quality, engineering, and styling and you will not regret a cent of it! Set your price range, determine the right size and viewing distance for your room and put Sony at the top of your list when shopping Amazon.com for the best price on your flat-panel TV! Good luck and I hope my review has helped. I know a flat-panel is a major purchase and it's worth the time and effort to write a review if you are truly impressed and satisfied to pass on a great experience to others!

Summary: This is a great TV for your living room. I actually purchased a rear projection 56", but brought it home and it was way too big. This size was excellent for general viewing. I decided to save a few bucks and go with this 720 rather than 1080. i have no regrets so far. The menu system on this is excellent. picture is excellent. great brightness and color. easy hookup. remote is clean. Frame is a nice modest color, not glossy like the Samsung. Go for it. Check online, I saw a great deal on a small web site, but I had already gotten mine on sale at Circuit City. I got a good deal, but there are a few better I expect.

Summary: I'm withholding true judgement on our new Sony HD LCD in the event that we don't have it set up properly. We took it out of the box, hooked it up to our standard cable and expected to be "wowed". Instead, it was more like "what"?? The quality wasn't sharp and for clarificcation of this review, we didn't have it on an HD channel. I thought the regular channels would be much better than our old TV and it wasn't. Not clear or sharp and to sum it up best, my younget son asked if we could hook the old one up so he could watch TV. Any help would be appreicated. What are we doing wrong and in the absence of HD programming, shouldn't it improve the image of our regular cable/satellite programming? It's a new unit by the way, not refurbished.

Summary: Had my 40" Sony Model KDL40SL130 (Costco version of the KDL-40S3000) since Sept, 2007. Its currently wall mounted in my covered heated patio (designated home smoking area) and has since provided substantial hours of great viewing for my weekly "boys only cigar smoking sessions". Everyone who views it comments on how clear the picture is especially during the days when the sun is out, this unit performs beyond my inital expectations. Most of my friends have other branded LCD flat screens in 1080P and this 1080i unit leaves them with praises.
Following the manufacturer's guidelines, Sony lowest temp. envirionment is rated at 32 deg. F. Located in the Pacific Northwest our winters are mild and the Sony has performed admirably. The in case sound system is full enough to cover my patio's 7' X 15' area.
Prior to purchasing this unit, I consulted the CNET review as well as the various feedbacks available at that time. CNET's review is smack right on. The only minor fault is when the picture is black (e.g. screen pause in between flipping channels) there is some very minor clouding.
Currently getting my HD feed from Directv. The higher contrast rating certainly makes itself usefull in the outdoor location.
As a result of this experience, I'll be replacing my 42" 1st generation Sony rear projection with a Sony 46" KDL-46S3000.
Worth every penny given its superior quality.
