The good: Integrated TV and Google TV software enables potential access to virtually all video sources media through one interface and search bar; full Chrome browser supports Flash and HTML5 video; includes RF QWERTY remote; built-in Wi-Fi; user interface overlays over TV content from cable/satellite box; can control TV, AV receiver, and cable/satellite box with external IR emitters; Android Market coming in 2011; relatively accurate color performance; sleek design; plenty of power-saving options.
The bad: Poor screen uniformity apparent with many Google TV sources; produces light black levels; some flashing in shadows at times; frustrating touch pad and overlarge keyboard on remote; sparse analog connectivity; major content providers like Hulu, CBS, and ABC are currently blocking Google TV; interface geared toward power users; Google's "universal" search doesn't search Netflix; antiquated Netflix interface; limited app selection at launch; lag and some bugs with current software.
The bottom line: Easily the most capable Internet-connected TV ever made, Sony's NSX-GT1 series calls for a tech-savvy buyer who can live with Google TV's growing pains, a touchy remote, and so-so picture quality.

You've been warned

Pros: sleek, good looking exterior
an OK picture
fairly easy to set up and connectCons: clunky user interface with impossibly complicated keyboard remote
frequent glitches in performance

Summary: Never a very good unit, the final straw for us was the "honeycomb" update that made a lousy user interface even worse. After installing the update the Netflix app was dead and no amount of effort would bring it back.
After two days and many hours of phone contact (mostly on hold) with support representatives, including such fun chores as disconnecting our entire wifi setup, buying an ethernet cable and hooking the TV directly to DSL, the final conclusion was that the update broke it and it couldn't be fixed. The only solution offered was to return our almost new unit and receive a used one.
Our personal solution was to buy a computer-to-tv cable and forget Google TV. We wish we'd never heard of it.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

AVOID SONY TVs!
by CJCcnetuser on December 25, 2012
Pros: Nothing special about this TV.
Cons: My NSX-40GT1 stopped working after 18 months. Wouldn't turn on - red light blinking. Sony warranty expires after 12 months. Not a coincidence.
Summary: After the warranty expires, you'll be quickly disappointed and disgusted.

Now at Android 3.2 easily the most fantastic TV owned
by gunnar123 on April 2, 2012
Pros: Design.
Upgradable Android platform, now at 3.2 with hardware acceleration, Google Play, Developer support (adb). These are really hard to find anywhere today after the Android upgrade made them popular.Cons: Unfortunately early reviews scared people off and firmware arrived late so sales suferred. That is a real pity for a TV set that is just fantastic now with Android 3.2
Sadly Sony decided to discontinue the model, not their wisest move.Summary: As with all Google TV products of the first wave they suffered from late arrival of Android platform advancements. Things began happening late 2011 with the arrival of Android 3....
Summary: As with all Google TV products of the first wave they suffered from late arrival of Android platform advancements. Things began happening late 2011 with the arrival of Android 3.1. Now at 3.2 this TV is just fantastic. Google Play. Developer support. A product with such a powerful application platform is miles ahead of anything else Sony could come up with in TV models. Hopefully they will realize this in due time and come out with followup models.
If Sony would continue making TVs like these for an international audience with the software platform it runs now in March 2012 I predict their TV division would be in a great position.

Summary: This is a failure of a TV. While it does display a good picture, that, uhm, is actually all the good I can say about it. Netflix needs to be constantly reset to work correctly. Sometimes twice in the same day.
And now for the MAJOR issue.
Input Lag. All signals coming into the TV go through heavy post-processing. This adds a delay to what appears on the screen. While it is ok for watching cable or movies, this is not ok while playing video games, or using a computer hooked up to the TV.
Basically, when you press a button or move the control sticks, it takes about half a second to display on screen. It makes it impossible to play anything that requires reactions or quick thinking and button pressing to play. Shooters are impossible, Guitar Hero and Rockband are impossible. When I say impossible, I mean Do not even try. You will get very frustrated, and some people may even try and attack the TV.
Using a computer hooked up to it, you can't position the mouse where you want it at all. When you stop moving the mouse in your hand, it still travels on the TV due to the input lag. When you start to move the mouse, it doesn't display on the TV right away. Forget about using the TV as a Skype display.
The worst part is, Sony says this is "Normal Operation." Meaning, they admit it is an issue, but have no plans to fix it.
Would I recommend this TV? Absolutely not. Even if it were free, unless you have a large supply of aspirin for the headaches it will give. -
After a year, the TV doesn't work.
by LED_Fan on December 31, 2011
Pros: Great specs.
Cons: After a software update, my TV will not go into the Settings application. Because of that, I can no longer use the TV. Since it is out of warranty, I don't have a lot of options.
I tried Sony support. We tried a lot of things, but it didn't help.Summary: I would not recommend this TV. It is a little over a year old and I can no longer use it. I will update my post if Sony support comes ...

Summary: I let go of Comcast a couple months back and I soon realized I was spending more time watching you tube videos than watching the OTA content here in Chicago. With the NSX 40GT1, problem solved. Using the Chrome browser, you can access pretty much any website and with the included flash player, you shouldn't miss any content. It will be at times, choppy. Buffering will be an issue.
I was able to find this set on sale at Target for $ 515.00 with tax. I am extremely pleased with this purchase and would recommend it, with the above caveats, to all. -
Very nice LCD TV for well under $600 at local retailer.
by iquik on December 8, 2011
Pros: Setup worked very well. Connected to secure verizon FiOS wireless easily and is rock solid. Keyboard remote works very well with FiOS and other apps. Initial connection to apps such as Netflix worked without any problems. Very nice picture.
Cons: Only con I've found is that there is no access/support to HULU or HULUPRO via the internet browser. Sony needs to resolve this asap - Full internet access without any web site blocking.

Summary: This is a very nice TV with a very good picture. Interfaces with FiOS very well; Apps like Netflix work very well (initial setup and use) too. The initial setup worked without any problems and the wireless connection was right on and easy to do. I installed the LCD TV on it's base by myself. I like the multiple HDMI connections too even though I only needed one for the FiOS set top box. Next step is to use the TV tuner after I purchase the digital antenna (we have over 50 local digital over the air channels!) This is a well optioned capable internet TV. I like the onboard wireless capability too. I can also connect an ethernet cable for LAN access if I want to as well. Good job, Sony!

The future of TV
by tm07x on September 18, 2011
Pros: Sony standard color balance, no overhyped and burning whites.
Setup is easy and easy to understand even for a novice.
Remote is one of the best in the industry.
Integration with Netflix and other internet apps is better than any other TV, along with theCons: As this TV seems targeted towards the general consumer, there is no advanced menu.

- Remote
- Internet Connectivity
- Color balance and contrast
- Swivel
- HDMI, USB and WIFI built in

- Design
- Easy of use (for some)
- Value (price)
- Google TV
Cons:
- No advanced menu and setup
- Not the best SD picture quality
- No DLNA
- Lacking Media Center
Conclusion:
Despite its shortcomings in the advanced setup and menu department there is no doubt Sony has set the standard for future internet integrated TVs.
There is no longer need for an extra box like Boxee or WD live and the TV supports most downloaded media content. It also offers Netflix app and other apps and services.
The picture quality may not be on par with the more expensive Sony and Samsung counterparts, but at 800 USD it offers a package Samsung and other competitors have yet to offer.
Connectivity and built in Wi-Fi is a bonus and might come in handy for many users.
Music player is virtually non existent and can't compete with units like Apple TV in terms of connectivity and ease of use.
All in all the perfect buy for someone who needs a second TV, the college student or someone who streams media or downloads films and shows from the internet.

Still learning
by know-nothing on August 21, 2011
Pros: Exceptionally sharp image on HD content. Access to cracker provides a stream of free movies. Vast improvment over our 14yr old CRT. Does more than we expected our tv to.
Cons: The setup is designed to be user-friendly, but there are a few rough spots to smooth over. The wireless internet setup was pretty difficult- neither the wizard nor the manual notify you what the access parameters on your router need to be set to for every

Not so bad
by whitewolf11763--2008 on July 26, 2011

Cons: Flickering in darker areas, keypad can be difficult to set up, price could be a lot better.

Summary: The pro's far outweigh the cons on this tv in my opinion. I have had mine for about 3 days now and I am falling in love with it. My Xbox games look beautiful on it. This tv is almost a PC in itself, other than being able to install programs and features like on a PC. For me this tv is not that difficult to use, but I am a bit tech savvy when it comes to new things as I play around with them and figure it out. If you get one of these, I suggest you do the same, it is not as difficult as they make it sound above. The picture is not as good as on some other models, but for my needs it is really good. My digital cable, blu ray, and xbox 360 all look great to me, they have the color levels and brightness levels that bring them to life.
In conclusion, this is not the best tv on the market by far, but this is a good tv. If you are looking for a good value, and you want an internet tv, I would say go get this.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
