The good: Integrated TV and Google TV software enables potential access to virtually all video sources media through one interface and search bar; full Chrome browser supports Flash and HTML5 video; includes RF QWERTY remote; built-in Wi-Fi; user interface overlays over TV content from cable/satellite box; can control TV, AV receiver, and cable/satellite box with external IR emitters; Android Market coming in 2011; relatively accurate color performance; sleek design; plenty of power-saving options.
The bad: Poor screen uniformity apparent with many Google TV sources; produces light black levels; some flashing in shadows at times; frustrating touch pad and overlarge keyboard on remote; sparse analog connectivity; major content providers like Hulu, CBS, and ABC are currently blocking Google TV; interface geared toward power users; Google's "universal" search doesn't search Netflix; antiquated Netflix interface; limited app selection at launch; lag and some bugs with current software.
The bottom line: Easily the most capable Internet-connected TV ever made, Sony's NSX-GT1 series calls for a tech-savvy buyer who can live with Google TV's growing pains, a touchy remote, and so-so picture quality.

A great option for a Videophone/TV/Internet access
Pros: I needed a TV with an analog input for the videophone (everyone in the house but me is deaf). The set-up was easy and gave us Internet access and basically another computer for the price of a good TV.
Cons: So far, the only con is the keyboard remote is a little clunky. It would be nice to have one a simple remote with just TV functions and input selection.
Summary: I am still learning all the features and a little overwhelmed at all the options but so far no problems at all (I even managed to program my phone as ...

this is to tv's what my htc android g1 was to phones!!!
by b3rusty on October 26, 2010
Pros: more than i even know, there are so many crazy short cuts and cool things this tv can do. if you want a tv that can also act as a computer (for entertainment purposes) this is for you. the amount of free movies, vids, and media is never ending ;)
Cons: i'm a techie IT guy and this tv makes me feel like my grandma trying to program her vcr, but i've only had 1 day so give me a few more and i'll get better hopefully. tv is very easy to setup but very complicated to use to its full potential so far.

Summary: i love it so far but before i knew it i had wasted about 5 hours of my awesome life just playing around with this tv trying to figure out all the awesome things it can do. it will definitely take me a while to learn how to use some of the more cooler features of this tv. originally i was pushing for the tv and my wife was like "do we have to, why" and after she got her crack at it she told me this morning how addicted she already is to it. if you watch any sort of videos on your computer throughout your day this tv is for you.
my wife watches japanese tv shows and movies on her computer and now she can watch them in HD with the nice stereo surround sound from the comfort of our big ass couch instead of the uncomfortable computer room. i see this tv putting 10 lbs on my wife and i by next spring. tv is awesome but now i will have to work less and go to school less in order to watch all the stuff available to us now. i have no reason to leave my couch anymore!!
this tv is to tv's what android was to phones in my opinion and its only going to get better in the coming months. i saw where people were saying this tv was not the sharpest or clearest tv on the market today, i also saw where the cost breakdown showed that this tv is basically $1250 (46") and the computer google android part was like $250 so that tells me that i have basically a $1250 dollar tv set with some extras. comparing this tv to other $1250 tv's and not comparing this tv to the best and newest $2k tv's out there this tv is just fine. my only complaint on that level is that it has a bit of a glare when looking at it from the side angle or with a lamp next to you so just know this and plan accordingly.
in my opinion this type of tv will be in everyone's home in the future, this is just the first gen model ;)
so my only cons at this point are the learning curve in order to get it to do all the neat fancy things it boasts about. the remote is a little overwhelming and although it may do all the fancy stuff i still prefer to use my normal cable box remote for just simple tv watching as of day 2 of ownership but the sony remote is handy just a little odd and will probably take some time to get used to. i wish i could have designed a custom remote, i would have placed some functions in different places, removed some keys, and added some extra keys,, for example the 'tab' button on the sony remote is the recall or last button from my cable box remote, how is someone supposed to know this, also my page up and page down (single buttons) on my cable box remote now require pressing 2 buttons simultaneously in order to get the sony remote to act in the same manner (func+ pageup or pagedown). the sony remote is nice but a little odd, thats all i'm saying.2 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

The new all in one.
by cnet_reviewerz on May 23, 2010
Pros: Its pretty much making your tv a computer. You can surf the internet and it has satellite like properties. The only thing it cant do though is to make word documents and that stuff. Otherwise its great.
Cons: These are still pros. You can connect a wireless keyboard and mouse to the tv or the google tv and surf the internet from atleast 30 ft away. LOL.
Summary: best idea out there so far and simple.

Offers much, horrible connectivity
by mynameiscecil on April 12, 2012
Pros: Has a dumbed down version of the Android Market (now Google Play or something)
Cons: Has absolutely no support for connecting devices (and greys out options in the setting menus in order to adjusts things to fix problems). Definitely not a tv if you plan on using anything other than same year Sony devices.
Summary: Not too impressed. My $300 black Friday tv is better. (Westinghouse) I can connect my cat to it (and chihuahua)

picture great, apps terrible.
by skydancerca on February 8, 2012
Pros: Love it as a regular tv, love the picture and google tv app on my android for controlling the tv. Internet access is fast and set up was very easy and quick. You need good bandwidth.
Style is very sleek and thin, despite being a pretty heavy tv.Cons: Complicated tv, doesn't even come with a printed user manual, comes with a brief overview only but does come with a 50 page booklet on regulations. Priorities? Some apps that come with the tv freeze constantly. Will not work with kindle for android.
Summary: Needs lots more apps, especially apps that really work. A few apps DO work well and are very enjoyable, such as the virtual fireplace and 'classic'tv.
Some Video streaming ...Summary: Needs lots more apps, especially apps that really work. A few apps DO work well and are very enjoyable, such as the virtual fireplace and 'classic'tv.
Some Video streaming apps are great, others are terrible, like crackle. (videos just stop after a few minutes, despite 20mb/s bandwidth)
Like the android phones, you always have to fight the apps that are pre-loaded. They keep popping up even when they are force closed. There really should be an option to permanently delete pre loaded programs you don't want or need.
Overall, I like the versatility of this tv but want smoother operation, a more intuitive remote,a full printed manual for the tv and the remote, better working apps, kindle, skype, some really fun games, and I also hope that the software continues to be upgraded. -

Tv would be 4 stars if the wifi worked properly.
by cschnatz on January 15, 2012
Pros: TV has a great picture and the remote is awesome. The apps and usb ports give you lots of option to play movies and hook up other devices.
Cons: The wifi does not work properly can not use the apps on TV.

Summary: TV worked great for 4 weeks then I had a wifi issue would not connect to my router. Called Sony 3 times got to level 3 customer care just for them to tell me that my router was no good, bought a new router still have the same issue can not connect to router. can't use mt Netflix, Pandora, HBO go or any other apps. Had to return TV. A big wast of time for me spent 5 hours on the phone with Sony just to get the run around. I would wate and see if the issue with router gets resolved be for I buy this TV.

The Smartest TV and Best remote I have seen!
by krylosY on January 2, 2012
Pros: Smart and getting smarter.
RF remote - no aiming at the screen
Full web browser and video
not 3D thank goodness
surprisingly decent speakers for a thin TV
EZ to set up and use, considering its many features
Amazing integration with AT&T digitalCons: not 120hz but the best 60hz I have seen
Needs a "GAME" option for gaming
absolutely no volume/channel controls on the TV itself MUST use remoteSummary: My wife picked this out as her favorite option on compUSA site. They were sold out and also sold out at best buy. We ended up driving 2 hrs for ...
Summary: My wife picked this out as her favorite option on compUSA site. They were sold out and also sold out at best buy. We ended up driving 2 hrs for this puppy and bought at Best Buy for the points.
Not being a google or a Sony fan, I have to admit I am impressed.
IT upgraded itself as soon as it was on the network. Then had to re-enter all the stuff we had just entered all over again. But this upgrade seems to have fixed many complaints from the review.
I can't rave enough about how great the remote is, just don't loose it or let your 2 year old use it for teething.
Actually processes the picture faster than our 55" 60hz Bravia though the rendering does seem slightly better on the Bravia. Still can't complain about the picture though its great for a 60hz TV, better than the 3 yr old 46" Aquos 60hz LCD it replaced.
Buy it and enjoy! Prices reductions are amazing on this TV right now (Dec/Jan 2011) IF you can find one (40in is more plentiful).
