too much green to tell

Summary: If you like green, this set is for you. I have been shopping for 6 months now, and thought this would be the set. I had heard of some green tint, but figured I could calibrate it out easily enough. I was wrong. Even professional calibration will not get all the green tint out of this tv. It shows up in the shadows, and gives the tv a "green scale" as opposed to a gray scale. I am in the process of trying to either get a fixed set, or return it all together....toshiba is not the best company to deal with in my opinion. This set does have the best colors I have ever seen, and if they get rid of the green problem, I would say it is the best set on the market, but as it is now, I would say stay away, unless you love green.

High end set-not as green as one would make you believe
by stevensmatt on September 1, 2007
Pros: newest and best technology, great sound, vibrant picture, tons of picture setting options
Cons: green/yellowish tint in some scenes/settings, SD picture could be better

Summary: For someone to rate this set a 3 is ridiculous. It is highly rated by CNet (see 52 inch rating)and CR. I can see the green tint issue, but it isn't as drastic as the previous reviewer stated, and by using CNet's setting tips, the performance and detail are great. The only reason I didn't rate it higher is due to the fact I've only had this set for one week. A month from now I may rate it higher. Bottom line: If CNet states, "this set is among the top LCD's we've tested this year" I would believe them.
Updated
I've tried to find this green issue that I've seen on other posts and with my set it just isn't there. Anyone interested in purchasing should do a lot of testing in the store and immediately at home. I've had the set one month now and find the picture to be spectacular. Would definitely recommend as it stands up to Sharp, Samsung, and Sony (at comparable price point).2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Absolutely Beautiful

Summary: Spent days shopping around and this is one of the very best displays I found for the price. Comparable to the high-end Sony and Panasonic LCDs and chock full of great features. Super clear, crisp, bright display with several filter modes for movies, television, computers, gaming, etc. - noted "green issue" by a couple users is fixed by switching to appropriate display mode. With over a dozen video inputs and on-board tuners, and Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture, I can keep an eye on everything I want, even across inputs. Absolutely in love with this unit in my living room! If you can find one for under $1800, it's a steal!

Excellent buy

Summary: Before I bought my TV, I did extensive research for months on what I was going to buy. Sony, Samsung, Sharp, all were studied in various forums. I was on AVS forums almost daily. I also checked stores themselves for viewing, setup options. I'm not some AV nut, with money for my own personal home theater. This was my big once a year expense, for my main room to watch on a regular basis.
I've now owned this TV for 3 months. I'm just as happy with it as the day I bought it. I've heard about this green issue people have had. Never experienced it myself. All colors were true. This is a great TV, better then the Sony XBR4-5 (trust me on this one) for about half the price. Buy it. -
Great TV with lots of features
by njeske on December 31, 2007
Pros: IR in/out, 1080P, great picture, 120Hz

Summary: This TV looks amazing. Out of the box, it did have a bit too much green in the picture. Not as bad as some reviews would have you think, but it was noticable. A few adjustments of the picture and dynamic contrast and the picture is incredible. Toshiba is also the only manufacturer that I'm aware of provides an IR system built into their LCD TVs. This is a HUGE plus since my wife didn't want to see the rest of my theater components. Having the built-in IR saved me nearly $200 by not having to buy a seperate IR kit. I honestly don't notice much picture difference with the 120Hz enabled. There is noticably less motion blur while watching sports, but only barely.

Summary: We have had this set for a couple of weeks. The picture detail, clarity and color is spectacular. We compared this to similar models from Samsung, Sharp, & Sony – all hanging side by side - and felt that the Toshiba had the best detail and clarity of the group. I made the salesman run thru the channels to check for the “green issue” and saw no evidence of it at the showroom or since getting one home.
The one issue with HDTVs is that the TV’s capabilities far exceeds most of the input capabilities. I’m on my second HD cable box from Time Warner, they give you the cheap one first, and they don’t have a box that you can connect with an HDMI cable! I would highly recommend this TV if you are looking to buy an HDTV. -
Excellent big screen if you have HD content

Summary: I saw this TV in the store where they had the Discovery channel on in HD and they were playing an SD DVD, Gladiator. My son and I compared this TV with plasmas and other LCDs and felt like this TV was as good of a picture as any of the others.
The price is much less than 120 hz LCDs from Samsung and Sony which were not available when I bought the Toshiba, but have since become available.
When I received the TV and hooked it up I was aware of the "green tint" issue and sure enough I noticed that SD programs were fairly green and I also noticed that green as well as other colors tended to bleed. However on HD programming that was not the case and I could not be happier with the picture quality. I have DirecTv and an SD DVD player for inputs. The SD DVDs do not have the same color issues as DirecTv SD programming, but as one would expect the picture is not as detailed as an HD movie shown on DirecTv. HD football (I have the NFL package and Super Fan) is unbelievable, yet SD Football is much better on my 31 inch Sony CRT. Also there is no motion blur during football games, which I assume is in part due to the 120hz feature.
I watch mostly HD programming so I am hoping that DirecTv increases their HD programming later this month as planned. But for now, if you only have SD programming, this TV is hard to recommend. This may be the case for other similarly sized LCDs, so be sure and watch SD programming as well as HD programming on this or any other LCD before you buy it.
