Product brief
Intro: The ViewSonic N3751W is a 37-inch, LCD television.Compared to other LCD TVs on the market, it is very inexpensive at around $850.This flat-TV is an LCD display, which is generally the best kind of flat-panel screen for viewing in brightly-lit rooms.
Noteworthy Features: With built-in HDTV compatibility, this unit can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition.(It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.)The 3:2 pulldown feature of this unit reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.
Weaker Features: None noted, given available product data.
Suitability: An LCD TV, suited for home entertainment as well as work place applications. In general, a wide aspect display such as this one is well suited for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming.
Value: Given its very inexpensive price, this TV has good features for the money.
Suggestions: (1) For assistance in shopping for a new HDTV, review CNET editors' Ultimate HDTV Buying Guide.(2) If donating or repurposing your old TV is not a viable option, CNET encourages households to recycle their electronics. Please explore the following website to find a recycling center in your area Electronics Take Back Coalition.
Receiving HDTV broadcast: The three common methods to receive HDTV broadcasts are via satellite-TV set-top box, cable system set-top box, and over-the-air reception from a digital HDTV broadcast station.
True HDTV: True HDTV programming is now available in three resolutions: 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
Tuner options: An HDTV-ready satellite or cable box will act as an outboard HDTV tuner for your digital TV set that lacks a built-in HD tuner.

cheap tv with decent picture

Summary: This tv has a relatively low price point and should be considered a bargain compared to the competition. Many connectivity options are available, including 3 hdmi inputs. HDTV picture quality is fairly nice - esp in comparison to my main set, panny ph509uk.
Level of black detail is not great - contrast is 1000:1 which is somewhat low. The remote is horrible and viewsonic is not part of the universal remote system. The LCD backlight level is not controllable on this tv, another con. SDTV is acceptable, 6-7 out of 10 - tv settings need to be adjusted to get the most out of the picture and even then, it could be better.
Features I do not use:
PIP features are crippled, one input must be HDMI to use this function.
OTA HD tuner is quirky.
Conclusion:
-Great as a second tv (bedroom or game room), I would not recommend as a main set.
-Set has more features than other sets at this price point.
-If you have the money, you can spend 1.5x and get a better set.
-If you view a lot of HDTV, then this set is for you. If you only view SDTV, then get a different set.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

decent for the money
by gsorrell on May 20, 2007
Pros: Alright picture quality, light years ahead of old tube tv. Cannot beat $899 cdn at Costco for the size and # of HDMI inputs. A lot less bulkier than rear projectors.
Cons: see section below

Summary: Let me just say that you get what you pay for. I use this for my master bedroom TV/2nd monitor and it does a great job in this respect. However, when I compared the colours on my Viewsonic 20 in lcd, the LCD TV really showed its shortcomings. Fleshtones are paler, less sharpness, blacks not as detailed. I was under the false impression that Viewsonic would put the same amount of quality control in their TVs as their monitors. Ooops. I have a THX optimizer, hopefully I can squeeze some more colour perfomnace outta this thing.
The remote control is so poorly designed ergonomically. Our fingers spend most of thier time on the channel/volume button. They are so far down, that the bottom of the remote has to rest in the middle of your palm, with only your index and middle finger to support, which is uncomfortable for me. I prefer to have all four fingers supporting the lateral aspect of the remote with the thumb comfortably in the middle where the vol/channel buttons should have been placed. The buttons feel cheap and loose.
The PIP is a joke. Words cannot describe how useless this feature is on this TV.
Speakers are pathetic. However, if you have an external setup like I do, this is not an issue.
As stated earlier, unless you have a $200+ Harmony remote (they support over 25,000 codes and update regularly), universal remotes like the ones incl. with our Satellite/Cable boxes are rendered impotent.
This is an excellent 2nd TV and is VESA compliant. However, if you want great performance, namebrands like Sharp and Sony stomp a mudhole in this thing and walk it dry.Updated
When you mute the TV volume, the mute icon stays on permanently. If you are using your external speakers, you always have to manually turn down the volume to 0. This is one of those attention to detail items that should have been caught.Updated
I am very disappointed after 3 months of ownership. This TV's biggest weakness is reproducing human beings accurately. Tanned skin is overcompensated with too much red, white skin looks bleached, blonde hair detail is lost because this TV over-whitens it, black details in general (most notably Eva Longoria's hair) are lost, and finally red hair is a lost cause on this TV. Not to mention the grainy picture, which is very pronounced with tanned skin.
As I stated earlier, you do get what you pay for. Fortunately, Costco has the best return policy in North America. After seeing other LCD televisions and plasmas in action, I would rescore this TV a 4/10.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

by Evayy on March 11, 2007
Pros: Good Picture for Dvd movie viewing many hook ups in back
Cons: Sound subpar (writings on ticker news bar or weather poor)

The N3751 is a great LCD TV, with three HDMI inputs along with a composite/component and VGA inputs you always have an input for your device.
If you want a big screen LCD TV you would do great to buy the N3751w, you won't find another TV of this size and quality for a price under $2000. -
Awesome for the price

Pros: 3 HDMI inputs
Cons: VGA connector no DVI

I am luck enough to have a PS3, awesome @ native 720p and gameplay. The 8ms refhesh time makes gameplay as good as any other monitor I have used. 37" is big so you have to back up a ways from it to see everything and survive.
Blue Ray DVD looks awesome, I watched XMen The Last Stand. The monitor switched automatcially to 1080i. Did notice on very bright scenes a slight flicker but its only because I was looking for it. Downloaded HD trailers off the PS3 store looked awesome at 720p.
It would be nice if you could select the resolution when 720p/1080i is available just to see the difference.
I may try hooking up my comuputer to the monitor with a VGA to HDMI converter to see if there is a difference.
Cannot say anything bad about this monitor.
Its a Costco exclusive model, so your price guarantee is as long as its available on the shelves.
