Summary: I bought this set at Walmart in an all in one box that came with the 3D blueray player, 4 prs of glasses and an HDMI cable all for $678. It set up easy and the picture is excellent in all lighting conditions. We set it up next to a Sony XB42 and found the Vizio had a better picture. The sound from the forward facing speakers is more than sufficient for most viewing and when watching movies I use our surround sound system. The cnet reviewer claims it is "chunky" looking but that is all functional and why I chose the set becuase the speakers are in the front not the back where you can't hear them. I had bought a sound bar at the same time but returned it as it was unneccesary. The gamers in the house love plugging in the ps3 and playing at full 1080p and also in 3D on some games. I even had fun watching them! The 3D was not a feature I went looking for but since the package came with it and comcast has 3D service I went with it. I am glad we did, it is a lot of fun and it truly adds another "dimension" to the shows that come in 3D. The only reason I didn't give it 5 full stars is because occaisionally, on very lite, flat backgrounds there is some greyish looking areas that appear to be on the screen and could upset a true videophile ( not that a videophile would buy this set however ). We are very happy with this set and just hope it will last for a number of years. The set it replaces was a 42" rear projection Sony that was 15 yaers old so this is a lightyears better! For the price it can't be beat, compare the picture yourself in the store, remember to use similar settings on the side by side comparisons of TVs, I couldn't see what the cnet reviewer was saying about the blacks not being dark enough, the picture is very warm and full and the colors are supurb. I looked at every set out there at all different types of stores and lighting conditions and there are better pictures out there if you want to pay over $1000 bucks for a 42 incher, but once set up in your own den or bedroom you won't know the difference, and this set, for the money is excellent! About the only thing I can say is the LED version of this set is what I went out to buy that day and if it had been in a package like this one I would have paid a little more for it because it does have a little better picture when viewed in the store. You won't go wrong with either one. For the price of the LED upgrade I got the 3D blueray player, extra glasses and the sound bar ( which I returned ) and now that it is set up in the den I can't tell the difference. I hope they broadcast the superbowl in 3D, we watched some college football in 3D and it was amazing! ESPN3D has the xgames in 3D now and you can really get an appreciation for the hieghts these guys reach! Have fun!

Great Deal for a 42" TV + 3D
by instantpressure

Pros: Nice picture
Several APPS like Vudu, Netflix, etc
Quality 3D picture
3D glasses included x2
Cons: Non LED and so it gets warmer than a LED TV
2" wide bezel, LED bezel is under 1"
Amazon movie button does not work, but I read there is a Amazon dispute going on, so not a big deal.

Summary: My 5yr old Sony 42" DLP got the CLOD factory virus defect and so I bought this TV last week at Costco + warranty, now it's covered for 5 years total.
I am a picky person and I must admit it is a stellar TV that makes regular TV shows look like I am actually standing 10 feet away inside the studio. It is awesome, strange and surreal all at the same time.
The 3D feature is a definite PLUS+++, but unfortunately there is very little to watch other than a handful of college games and just as many movies. The bad part of the movies is that most of them were made into 3D at Post Production and the background appears as though it is a flat wall and only the characters stand out. It just isn't anywhere as good as being filmed in 3D like the IMAX movies.
Even though there isn't much to see in 3D, this TV was $629 and not on sale, and it still is cheaper than many non-3D capable TVs on the market today.
I wish they made a larger one so I could replace my 6 year old 73" Mitsubishi DLP that is getting old and starting to have problems. So I would definitely recommend picking one up at Costco and giving it a try, because they have an awesome return policy of 90 days - no questions.

Pros: excellent picture with easily adjustable preferences to suit one's viewing. Really good sound. The 3-D is amazing and adjustable. A 3-D, 1080, 120hz TV for less than $700?! What's to complain about.
Cons: none so far...

Summary: I bought this as a bundle at Walmart with Blu-ray player and 4 pairs of 3D glasses. Easy set up, great picture (which can be adjusted so easily to set your preferences), and really, the sound is better than I expected (after reading reviews of how bad sound is with thin TV's). I highly recommend this product and that is AFTER spending countless hours researching and additional hours/trips to actually see the TV's in action. No need to spend the money on LED, as it has a backlight feature...I personally think the CNET review could given the picture more credit.

Summary: I have had this TV for 2 weeks and I can say after researching it reading reviews from users and some experts on the net this TV is GREAT. I am not sure why cnet does not like the 2d picture quality but for me it is beyond great. The picture is extremely clear and detailed viewing angles are fine and playing my xbox360 on it is outsdtanding.
I am no TV tech I am an everyday gaget guy that looks for the best value for the dollar and this TV Wins big time. I use both Netflix and Amazon to stream TV Shows and movies the tv includes a button on the remote for each service in addition there is also a button for VUDU which I have signed up for but have streamed only some trailers for some of their 3D content.
The remote is a standard remote on one side and a full keyboard on the other side great for doing searches and entering information. Oh there are alot more apps you can add to your list not just the ones I talked about.
All my friends that look at the TV cannot believe how clear it looks to me things really pop on it. As far as sound goes you really need to use a sound system to get the best sound out of it. And most reviews I have read seem to agree on that.
My next thing to do with the TV is add a Playstation 3 and then I can watch some bluray DVD's and get more 3D content and game play. Yes you can spend more and get a higher quality set with LED backlight but for me this TV more then meets my needs and it seems to sell very well. I have seen it sell out on Amazon several times. For the average joe and even some above avg joe's you will love this tv.

Pros: Not sure who's working at Cnet, But... his/her eyes needs checked.
This Tv has the Best quality In 2D and 3D, I have tested many HD Tv's myself and Many fall short on the Quality and many would look blocky, But not this tv, Everything looks Clear.
Cons: Apps are not the best... But really that's more Yahoo's problem not Vizio's, I heard they are going to switch over to google/IOS Apps BUT... that was close to a Year ago now =/

If your a Rock Band/GH player Then "Game Mode" is a MUST have option and should have come on ALL HDTv's from the start.. I play a lot of Rock Band myself and was really holding back on getting a HDTv just for that reason alone, But when i hear this Tv had "Game Mode" that cuts lag by 100% I gave it a try... BEST THING in the world.
I can play Rock Band just like if i was playing it on a CRT TV
(If you are a Gamer "PS2/PS3/Xbox/360" and even older systems NES,Snes,Sega, etc etc Then get this Tv

Summary: i bought a 25 inch television in 1994... i just stopped using it this february, not because it didn't work but because i decided to "upgrade" after years of this dinosaur working just as perfectly as it did in 1994...
about two years ago i bought a 22 inch vizio for my bedroom... i was so impressed with it that when i decided to replace my super old, but perfectly working, 25 inch television i chose to go with the vizio 42 inch 3d television... i purchased it in February of this year (2012) as a birthday gift to myself... once again i was blown away with the quality and performance of my new vizio product...
fast forward to thanksgiving this year... i'm so glad i cancelled thanksgiving dinner at my house this year because my television that would have been playing the day's games and parades suddenly took a dump on me... the picture became horrible... i could not make any adjustments to correct it... lines looked like they were burned across the screen... the picture is dull and people look ghostlike... i called support and they told me to try a power cycle or recycle, whatever... i did it 5 times and nothing... when i first got the tv and signed in on the internet for the first time i got a message that said my product was registered for warranty... but because my original receipt was misplaced i can't have it serviced under the warranty... apparently the message i got was meaningless and misleading... so now after less than a year of enjoying a great experience i am stuck with a 42 inch paper weight because i refuse to pay for repair and possibly having another issue down the line...
thanks for getting my hopes up then letting me down vizio...
