So close, but no cigar for Vizio
by justacustomer on December 24, 2009
Pros: Scary picture... eats the competition alive at this price point.
Nice cosmetics and connection options.Cons: Power cord is a stupid design.
No STAND-BY mode when used as computer monitor is disingenuous when Vizio touts this as GREEN technology.
Language challenged Vizio tech support is frustrating and a real turn-off.Summary: The Vizio VM190XVT is so close but no cigar. Amazing pictures at the price point FAR superior to the competition but Vizio fumbles the ball at the one yard line....
Summary: The Vizio VM190XVT is so close but no cigar. Amazing pictures at the price point FAR superior to the competition but Vizio fumbles the ball at the one yard line.
No STANDBY provision when used as a computer monitor. When computer goes to sleep the monitor shows a bright BLUE screen. Not energy conscious.
The power cord supplied with the Vizio VM190XVT has a BRICK to drop line current down to the low voltage this TV requires. Rather than place the brick in the middle of the power cord where it won't interfere it was placed on the end precluding it's use in many power strips, UPS units, and outlets.
No excuse for the power cord brick other than inadequate field testing prior to release and no standby mode is laughable when you claim to be GREEN.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

TV is good; PC monitor using HDMI "NOT"!
by JoeEH on October 29, 2010
Pros: This is a decent TV for the price. It has a good selection of inputs for this small a set.
Cons: When using the HDMI input for a PC monitor, the onscreen menu pops up periodically on it's own and blocks part of your screen.

Summary: As a TV, I like the unit, and as a PC monitor it is only working properly for me when using the VGA input. When I tried sing my HDMI input, the menu problem appeared.
Tech support suggested that neon lights, a heat source, or a router that was too close might cause the problem. I ruled them out after turning the router off, and the CFL bedroom lamp just in case it was emitting something like a neon light. I also moved my cordless phone into another room. Nothing helped.
I tried both HDMI inputs and got the same result. Finally I found a VGA cable and tried that. The menu problem disappeared.
I haven't tried a different HDMI source to see if it is related just to the PC signal yet. I also haven't checked out the other inputs (A/V and Composite) which I can do later with a DVD player. -
good picture or not would not purchase it again
by ic_craftsman on October 6, 2010
Pros: Good picture, cool looking thin style no movable buttons all buttons thermal operated.
Cons: QAM tuner is substandard takes long time to change channel. Remote control one of the worst I have encountered. channel surfers nightmare. I put this in my kitchen on the wall and the power brick is a bummer for a wall hanging device.
Summary: Seemed like a good deal at the time, after 2 weeks of use I should have returned it. It would be a better install if you married it to a ...
Summary: Seemed like a good deal at the time, after 2 weeks of use I should have returned it. It would be a better install if you married it to a set top box where the tv never changed channels. Never used it as a PC monitor so I can't comment on that. This remote is so bad I can't describe how frustrating it is to use. Seems you must point it directly at... and perpendicular to the screen for it to work. Then changing a channel can take a long time especially if you are on direct cable and going from analog to digital note my other Visio set handles this transition very well. The back button to return to the previous channel doesn't return to the previous channel depending on how you changed channels. That alone is a design oops as far as I can say. The menu options are fairly straightforward. The sound leveling is bad so when the today show is on and playing the intro music the volume lowers to an acceptable level but when people start to speak after music stops there is a 5 second drag on restoring the volume level. I bought this on-line without a demo. Something I will never do again.
